new reviews for the mighty regimental records! 2-28-11

metal hails!
normally i don't have a single blog for a certain label's reviews but joe {regimental rec. owner} sent me quite a package of promo's recently so i thought it'd be easier plus it will give the label a bit more exposure.
if you are a "fan" of more chaotic,old-school style black metal you MUST check out regimental rec. as you will not be disapointed.joe is also a fan of some darker ambient music and releases bands from this genre from time to time.
also i will post a interview with joe-regimental records shortly so defintly take a few min. to check out the interview and support a great,honest label!!!
best regards,

iugulatus--call of the horned god cd {regimental records}
{reviewed by patrick}
iugulatus is a four-piece band out of the mighty polish black metal underground.the band is very rooted in the old-school style of black metal gods of yesterday.raw mid-paced guitars and drums meld nicely together before the band drumms hit you with a barrage of blast,fast beats that beat the listener into submission. the vocals are screams mixed with some old-school death growls and fits iugulatus style perfectly.it is nice to hear/see black metal bands keep the old-school flame of black alive before black metal became a trendy household name.iugulatis is highly recomended!!

occultus-inthial cd {regimental records}
{reviewed by patrick}
french black metalers invade the underground black metal scene with a vengance.the band is not worried about being "original" or as "progressive" as can be like alot of black metal bands today.instead occultus go straight for the kill with unrelenting cold,hateful black metal violent fast drums,grim/raw guitar riffs and some excellent vocals that fit the bands hateful and ugly sound perfectly.the band is not all noise and ultra-fast beats and riffs as the band does take some time to slow down to mid-paced that almost has a somber dark feeling within the music before the band begins it's attack on the listener with unrelenting fury and viciousness,yet memorable and well-played violent black metal.this is a band i am really enjoying and i can see myself listening to this band alot and recomend them to fans of fast,uncompromising black metal.

sad/sapthuran--black winter of desolation split cd {regimental records}
{reviewed by patrick}
starting off this double-assult of black metal insanity is sad.i remember hearing this band on one of their earlier releases "total nothingness"{also released on regimental rec.}this time around sad treats us to four-tracks of violent,furious black metal.with thin-guitar chords brutal drums and blast beats the vocals are violent traditional shrieks that fit perfectly with sad's sound. defintly don't let the name fool you this band is not a depressive black metal at all. the band is decent for the style they play. up next on the assult is sapthuran from the u.s. i remember hearing this bands first releases a few years back but lost touch with the musical band/project. well first listen and you can easily hear sapthuran is much more in the raw/primitive old-school sound of black metal.personally i enjoy the raw/stripped down style more than the newer polished black metal.sapthuran will please fans of dirty,raw,primitive black metal should enjoy both sad and sapthuran.

sorts--made in nightonia cd {regimental rec.}
{reviewed by patrick}
sorts comes from the depths of estonia's black metal underground. i believe this is the first band from this country i have heard and i must say i like this band alot! the bands debut Mcd contains four songs of barbaric primitive black metal the way it should be played. thin-razor sharp guitar chords,some of the most intense drumming to be heard in a long time.the only complaint is made in nightonia is only 4 songs! but this is a great debut and i for one am looking forward to hearing more from this obscure,amazing band.fans of dark throne,or old-school black metal mixed with some punk influence should love sorts raw,violent music another great release for regimental!!

yskelgroth-unholy primitive nihilism cd {regimental records}
{reviewed by patrick}
regimental records is a label i have always respected for sticking to their guns {so to speak} and releasing bands/music they truly enjoy and not whats popular. and this recent batch of regimental promo's is no different{see other regimental rec.reviews elsewhere} yskelgroth is a band that features none other than legendary vocalist dave rotten {avulsed,rottrevore,etc.} yskelgroth are a band mixing in old-school brutal death and classic style black metal for a primitive,yet brutal mix and sound.the guitars for the most part have a thicker more death metal feel to them but a few of the songs the bands goes for a more raw,primitive sound.another thing i noticed while listening to this release is the guitarist has some well-done and even cocmplex structures.the drums are flawlessly done whether they are going one thousand miles an hour or if their more controlled mid-paced.dave r. vocals fit perfect inyskelgroth's brutal sound mixing deeper growls and black metalish screams/shrieks.fans of intense brutal blackend death will defintly want to check out yskelgroth
