Interview  with   A.T.H  Vocalist   and  guitarist  for   Ancestors   Blood   done  by   Patrick

1.Hello     A.T.H    what  gave  you  the   idea  to  start  Ancestors   Blood ?And  how  did you  choose  the  name  for  this  band?

-Greetings Patrick.
The idea was formed from desire to create something to express myself in musically and bringing my visions to life as the first demo began to take shape.
I had already thought about the need for a new name for some time since our previous name(Lost Wisdom) was already chosen by other bands and I'd require something unique and
better suitable for our purposes, then by a sudden vision/dream it emerged to me and therefore the name Ancestors Blood was chosen.

2.Ancestors   Blood  was  formed in  2002  how  would  you  say the  band's  music  has  changed  over the  years?Who  are  some of the bands  biggest  influences?

-Essentially we have evolved from a simple way of creating music to a bit more technical edge still preserving the old and straightforward touch.
There's just too many bands and artists or even musical sources of inspiration to mention but we are more or less influenced by:
Motörhead, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Manowar, Manilla Road, Dio, Black Sabbath, Sarcofagus, Kingston Wall, OZ, Satyricon, Gehenna, Primordial, Summoning, Ulver, Enslaved,
Moonsorrow, Emperor, Paradise Lost, Weather Report, Hurriganes, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää, Sibelius, Wagner, Bach, Rush, Goblin, Candlemass, Saint Vitus, Irwin Goodman,
Toto, Ennio Morricone, Type O Negative, Ramones, Burzum, The Sisters Of Mercy, Graveland, The Black League, Tapio Rautavaara, electronic dance music, 80's cartoon themes,
movie themes and soundtracks, game themes etc.

3.Ancestors   Blood     recently  released  their  second  full-length  cd  "Hyperborea"  through   Naturmacht  Prod.
How  long  did  it   take  you  to  write  the  music  for  this  release?

-After our second album "A moment of clarity" was released we started with fast momentum to prepare material for "Hyperborea",
I would say that almost all of the songs came together quickly and just before the recording took place we finalized the last song "Rite of passage",
all in all this whole creating process took us about two years.

4.Which   usually  comes  first  for you  the  music  or  the  lyrics? What  are the   lyrics  based  on  the  new  cd   "Hyperborea"?

I'd consider lyrical aspect first, then comes the music.
Lyrics are from a very personal view: revisiting some old places which I hold value very higly, some aspects of my ancestry through my father's father side of roots from the Karelian Isthmus,
the cycle of life: death and rebirth, channelling my spiritual way which I discovered some years ago, always seeking, always evolving.

5.Has  the  band  ever   made  a  video  for  any  of   the     Ancestors   Blood   songs?
If  you  could  make  a  video  for  any  of your songs  which  song  would  you  like  seen   made  into  a  video?

-No, not in the sense of music video but there is however a couple of promo videos on youtube, one was made for song "Legend of horizon" by Luis Hermosilla who has been doing
our artwork since "A moment of clarity" album and our label Naturmacht Productions made video from the song "Autumn (Metsäpirtti part II)".
Too many good choices to make, perhaps from our newest album the song called "The way of the spirits".

6.Besides  the   new  cd   "Hyperborea"   are  any  of  the   past  releases or  merchandise   still  available?  If  yes  where  can  the  readers  purchase  your  merchandise?

-Those who are interested to find old or new releases or merchandise may seek out through MERCH section from our website: ancestors-blood.com

7. A.T.H   you   handle  the  vocals  for  the  band  at  what  age  did you  start  singing and  screaming?
Do  you  do  anything  special  to  keep  your  throat  and  vocals  healthy?Who  are  some  of  your  favorite  vocalists?

-I was around 19 when we recorded "Wisdom opens the gates for the king" demo and that was my first attempt to "sing" but in the end I wasn't satisfyed with the results.
After "Preparing for war" I took the vocal duties once I discovered a voice I could express myself with.
There is no excercises, nothing I do to keep my voice working unless you count a couple of whiskey shots on some weekends, only in rehearsals doing the necessary vocal work.
There are so many to mention but some of the vocalists I am more or less influenced by or value very highly are: Lemmy, King Diamond, Tony Martin, Johnny Cash, Ape De Martini, Kirka,
Rob Halford, Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio, Irwin Goodman, Tapio Rautavaara, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Geddy Lee, Marco Hietala, Elvis, Ian Gillan,
Messiah Marcolin, Johan Längquist, Eric Adams, Scott Weinrich, Scott Reagers, Per Yngve Ohlin, Grutle Kjellson, Rob Darken, Mark Shelton, Bryan Patrick, Kal Swan, Stan Bush, Andy Aldrian,
Taneli Jarva, Joseph Williams, David Byron, Terry Glaze, Kal Swan, Bon Scott, Sammy Hagar etc.

8.Besides  the  vocals  you  also  handle  the  guitars  for the  band  at  what  age  did  you  start   playing  the  guitar?
Are  you  self-taught  or  did  you take  lessons  when  first   starting  out?

-I was around 14 when I first started to play guitar.
Had to take couple of lessons until had enough skills to move onwards.

9.Who  are  some  of your   influences and  favorite  guitarists? Do  you  currently   play   any  other   instruments?

-Once again so many to mention but I'd consider some of my indirect or direct guitar influences past to present: Hank Sherman, Michael Denner, Eddie Clarke, Brian Robertson,
Phil Campbell, Michael Burston, Alex Lifeson, Steve Lukather, Tony Iommi, Billy Gibbons, Brian May, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Chuck Schuldiner, Jon Nödtveidt, Dimebag Darrell,
Randy Rhoads, Jake E.Lee, Doug Aldrich, Zachary Hietala, Mark Shelton, Petri Walli, Kimmo Kuusniemi, Ross the Boss, Albert Järvinen, Prince, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton
Gary Moore, Keith Richards, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, Alexi Laiho, B.B. King etc.
I actually consider bass as my main instrument.
Drums I can only play barely and guitar a bit mediocre.
Considering some of the influential bassists I'd like to mention: Lemmy, Jaco Pastorius, Geezer Butler, Timi Hansen, Dusty Hill, Geddy Lee, Bob Daisley, Duff Mckagan, Flea, Prince,
Cisse Häkkinen, Hal Patino, Mike Porcaro, David Hungate, Jukka Jylli, Sami Yaffa, Leland Sklar, Steve DiGiorgio, Billy Sheehan, Michael Anthony, Chris Squire, Cliff Burton, Paul McCartney, Les Claypool,
Joey DeMaio, John Paul Jones, Alex Webster, Shawn Malone etc.

10.Besides   Ancestors   Blood   are  you    currently   working  with   any  other  bands  or  projects  If yes   please  tell the  readers  a  little  about  them?

-I am involved in bands named Kadotus and Akolyytti.
Kadotus is my main band manifested with 2 demos, 2 EP's, 2 full-length albums.
Akolyytti was founded from the ashes of previous incarnation of ALH's, stronger than ever emphasizing the fast and raw aspect of black metal under his dark flame.
First demo entitled "...and from the Ashes I Rose" released in 2015 and second demo "Torch of Black Flame" soon to be unleashed.

11.Thank   you    for  taking  the  time  to  fill  this  interview   out.Do  you   have  any  final   words  for  the  readers?

-Thank you for this interview opportunity and I wish you all the best in your zine's future.
Let the flames of our ancestors burn forever in our hearts!

Interview   with   Beldaroh vocalist  and  bassist  of   Besatt  and  Det  Gamle  Besatt   done  by   Patrick

1.Hails      Beldaroh    when  did you  first  discover   metal   music? Who  were  some  of the  first  bands you   listened to?

Greetings. It was year 1986 when I recorded from the radio song „Broken heroes” played by Saxon. After that I was more into Saxon buying their MC. After Saxon I discovered Accept and this band pulled me into metal for good.

2.When  did you  become  interested  in  singing and  screaming? Do  you  do  anything   special  to  keep  your throat  and  voice  healthy?

As a vocalist first I started to sing in the band called Mystes. It was about 2001, I’m not sure. I was not vocalist in Besatt from the beginning, but sometimes I was doing parts of backing vocals though. In 2008 during some line up changes besides playing bass I also began to sing till this day. To protect my through and preserve my voice during the gig I take special pills before and after.

3.Who  are  some  of your  favorite  vocalists?

I do not have any special favourite black metal vocalists but I very admire vocals of Ihsahn from Emperor

4.Besides   handling  the  vocals  you  also  play  the  bass  when  did you  first  start  playing  the  bass?Besides  the vocals  and the  bass  do  you  currently  play  any  other  instruments?

I’ve started to play bass in 1991 when Besatt was formed. I’ve started as a total beginner learning all my skills all by myself. Sometimes I have also play guitar but not as a musician just to show my ideas when we are composing new material.

5.I  believe  your  first band  was  Besatt  formed  back  in  1991  what gave  you  the  idea  to  form  this  band? How  did you  choose  the  name  of the band?

It was pure coincidence actually. From some time there was a pack of metallers on our settlement. We was drinking beer together roaming places and listening to metal tapes in basements. Then during the spring of 1991 we came up with idea to form our own band. We did so. None of us can play  any instrument so we had to start from zero. Name Besatt we figure out when we was checking names in Swedish dictionary. It sounds great and fit to our planned bands satanic message.

6.What   is  the  current  line-up  of  Besatt  and  for  the   readers  are  any of the  past releases or  merchandise  still  available   for  the  fans?  If  yes  where  can  the  readers  buy your  merchandise?

Besatt line up have changed
repeatedly through all these years. Present line up is: Beldaroh, bass and vocals, Colossus, guitar, Astaroth, guitar and Exernus on drums. Our old releases are available at our labels (Undercover Rec and Mutilation Rec) and of course there were many re-editions of our old stuff so as you see getting something today, specially via internet, is not that hard.

7.Besides  Besatt  you  formed  Det  Gamle Besatt  in  2012   when  did you  get  the  idea  to  start  this  band? What  is  the  current  line-up  of the  band?

In 2011 we celebrated 20th anniversary of Besatt existence. So for this occasion we release special 3 CD box set. For this we’ve recorded our very first song ever. I wanted to record it in original line up from that time. After the song was recorded we thought that playing with each other gives us hell of satisfaction. So we decided to play as before. However we were Besatt original line up from 1991, present Besatt was doing great with me being in another project so we’ve decided to name ourselves Det Gamle Besatt with Beldaroh on bass, Weronis on guitar and vocals and Dertalis on drums.

.8.For  the  readers  who  have   never  heard    Besatt  or  Det  Gamle  Besatt   how would  you  say  each  bands  music  sounds?

Musically Besatt is extreme as hell, technical Black Metal and Det Gamle Besatt is more like atmospheric, raw, mid tempos Black Metal. Both have satanic message of course.

9. Beldaroh   you   live  in  the  mighty  country  of  Poland   what  is your  opinion  of  the  Polish  metal  scene  over the  years?

I have to say that we have one of the best and strongest black metal scene in the world which I’m very proud of. Just at the very beginning of the 80’s we had bands which can be easily compared to Bathory or Venom. One of those bands was (and still is) Kat. In the early 90’s very strong underground Black Metal scene developed in Poland. Many great bands appear on this scene. Bands like Graveland, Behemoth, Arkona, Sacrilegium and many many more which unfortunately didn’t persist. Besides bands I have just mention I could also recommend bands like Taran, Infernal War, Mgła, Aryman, Empheris and last days revelation Batushka.

10.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  bands from  Poland?  Are  their  any  new  bands  you  feel  the  readers  should  watch  out  for ?

I think I have gave an answer to this question in previous one.

11.Besides  bands  are their  any  good  fan or  web-zines you  can tell the  readers  about?  And  what  are  some of your  favorite  labels/distro's  you  feel  the readers  should  check  out  soon?

I do not know a lot of web-zines. I just don’t observe web on a regular basis. As for the paper ones for sure I can recommend R’lyleh zine and labels such as Seven Gates, Warhead Records, Agonia Records or Pagan Records.

12.In your   opinion   what  is  the  best  and  worst thing  about  the  underground  metal  scene today?  And  what  does  underground  metal    mean  to you?

One of the best things and yet the worst at the same time in the underground Black Metal scene nowadays is the internet. Now if you want to contact anybody across the whole globe you just click one button. In just one second you can check on your favorite band, shuffle their discography and listen to their music without moving from your room. The other side of this whole technological blessing is the fact that now anyone can record their own material and put it on the web. That is why internet is a crappy place to search for good bands with good music. There is just to many shitty stuff flooding you when you want to seek for something valuable. Well this is just the way it goes, I think, but because of all of this we have lost the spirit, the whole old atmosphere created by sending traditional mail, paper flayers in envelopes, sending demo tapes recorded on crappy recorder… Those times will never come back.

13.When  not  working  on  new  music  or  band  business  what do  you  enjoy  doing  in your  free  time?

I have normal, regular „9 to 5” job, wife and 16 years old daughter which means more responsibilities. And moreover regular rehearsals with two bands, writing new riffs, lyrics, playing gigs, so believe me I haven’t got much spare time left.

14.Thank  you  Beldaroh   for  taking  the  time  to  fill  this  interview  out.Do you   have  any  final comments  before we  end  this   interview?

Hail Lucifer forever!

Interview   with   Panychida  done  by     Patrick

1.Hails!  How  are things  going  with you  and the  band  these days? When  did  you  first  meet  the  other  members  of  the  band?

Hi, thanks for the space in your magazine. Well, things are going nicely, we just recently put out the album, we had the release party, what was really fun and lots of people showed up. And we also finished one round of touring – first short tour with ANGANTYR and SVARTA, then Mexico tour and then 3 gigs with DORDEDUH. Now we will be a bit quiet and may be write some new stuff. More gigs will come in the autumn.
And when we fist meet? Well it was an coincidence of course, as always… When I moved to Pilsen for studies, then I met the other guys and we started the band, which was actually originally a project of our guitarist and former singer. The singer is gone, but we are still here and working together with people who wanna be in.

2.When did you  all come  up  with the  name    Panychida   to  use  as  the  name  of the  band? Does  it  have  a special  meaning?  What  is the  current  line-up  of the  band?

The idea of the name comes from the original vocalist and it mean a memorial ceremony for the dead. It comes from the orthodox liturgy and beyond you can trace it in some old pagan religions.
We are five people now, been together for some years, and it feels like a good line up for what we wanna do.

3.Panychida  is  getting ready  to  release  their  fourth  cd  "Haeticalia--The Night  Battles"  how  long  did  it  take  the  band  to  write  the  music  for the  new  release? Does  the whole  band  take  part  in  the  writing  process  or  does  one  member   usually  write  everything?

It took us like two years to get the album together and also the recording was done in sequences. We started last summer and ended up this spring, so quite a time. But we have our civil jobs and if we also wanna do some tours and gigs, we have to take it step by step. We normally work on music with the guitarist Sinneral. Me and him compose the most of the music, then we work together. I take care of the lyrics as well.

4.Who  usually  takes care   of  the  lyrics  and  what  are  some  subjects you  all wrote  about  on the  newest release?

As already said, I do most of the lyrics. This time I drew inspiration from the Ginzburg study about Benandantes of northern Italy – the witches who fight for the crop of the community. It is a kind of conceptual album.

5. Panychida   formed   in  2004  how would  you  the  music  has  changed  over the   years?

We were always based on strong melodies and even though we have left some of the more so called “pagan” feelings, we still play metal with melodies. We take inspiration from many different styles, that you can hear in the music itself – heavy metal, death metal, black metal. In fact we are metalheads, so that´s what counts and we live it. But people still call it pagan metal, even though it has nothing to do with the humpa humpa metal that more easy fans prefer.

6.Has    Panychida    ever  made  a  video  for  any  of your  songs/releases?  Are their  any  plans  to  make  one  for  any  of the  new  songs?  If you   had  your  choice  which  songs  would  you    like  to  see  made  into  a  video?

We only made a live video – it has been compiled from the shooting of our set at Phantoms of Pilsen. We never felt like having enough resources to do a really good video, so we so far live only with this one. For this album we are not gonna shoot any video, but we would like to do something for the next one. But it will take some time and there is no need to talk about it at this very moment ;-)

7. Panychida   recently  got  back  from  a  tour  of  Mexico   how  did the  tour  go?  Who  were some  bands  you  shared the stage with?

We did the whole tour with our friend from INFERNO and ARMADA, we are very good friends with both bands and it was really fun to do this tour. For us it was a big experience. Mexico is totally different from what we know here in Europe, it was more of a wilderness, but also kind of more friendly environment. We traveled over the central Mexico, visited the pyramids, the Pacific ocean, met so many cool people and had great talks with them. People in Mexico are great fans. What is a bit crazy on that country is that time has not much meaning over there, so delays were everyday experience, but after time you just don´t give a shit. It was definitely worth doing and we wanna come back there in few years.

8.Are their  any  other  tours  or  shows  coming  up  that the readers  should  watch  out  for? If  yes  where  are  some countries  and  places the  band  will  be  playing?

We plan something for the autumn, but only single gigs. But at this very moment, I have not much to say about it. We will definitely do our own festival Phantoms of Pilsen in October and we hope for some more touring next year.

9.Does  the  band  have   any  past releases  or  merchandise  available   for  the  readers? And  if  yes  where  can  the  fans  find your   merchandise?

By visiting our bandcamp at panychida.bandcamp.com you can get all what you need J Also at our website you can find our cds and merch: www.panychida.com

10. Panychida  comes  out  of  the Czech  Republic metal  scene  what  is  your   opinion  of  the  Czech  Republics   metal  scene?

There is plenty of bands over here but only few are trying to push it a bit more to get over the borders. But we also have some kind of legends like ROOT or MASTERS HAMMER which are well known I the worldwide metal scene. I think stronger than bands we have the festivals like Brutal Assault, Obscene Extreme, Hell Fast Attack and may be even our own Phantoms of Pilsen… what else to say… if you wanna hear some names worth checking I would definitely name INFERNO, MALLEPHYR, CULT OF FIRE, POSTCARDS FROM ARKHAM, SEKHMET, AVENGER,   from Slovakia I would recommend INFER or ANCESTRAL VOLKHVES.

11.Who  are  your   all-time  favorite   bands that  came  out  of  the  Czech  Republic  scene?  And  are  their  any  new  bands  you  feel  the  readers  should   check  out  soon?

I think that´s what I have just mentioned.

12.Thank  you  for taking  the  time  to  fill  this    interview   out   do you  all  have  any  final  words for the  readers?

Thanks a lot. I hope people will rather download our music from our bandcamp than from unknown sources, but if some of them wish, we are able to send the albums for free. Definitely I is better if they get it from us, than from elsewhere. Thanks for support and in case you can get in touch at info@panychida.com

1.Hello  Denzil   when  did you  first  discover   metal   music? Who   were  some  of  the  first  bands  you   listened  to?

Well i was lucky enough to be born in a family with great music taste. My mom used to listen to the Beatles,Bob Dylan, etc. and my uncle used to listen to Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink floyd, so i grew up listen to classics. When I was like 13 I remember my cousin was listening to Metallica- For whom the bell tolls..i was blown away listening to the heavy guitar riffs by Hetfield..and then i was introduced to Megadeth, Iron Maiden..i remember saving up and buying The Number of the Beast album which was confiscated by my mom as my aunty complained that i was listen to Satanic music.

2.When  did you  meet   Subhasish{vocalist} ? Was   it   long  before  you two  decided  to  form  Strangulate ?

Well i met Subhasish when i was in School...We had musical differences back then..Strangulate was as a side project..We were a grindcore band..me and Subhajit..vocalist of Purgation(the band i used to play in) Subhasish had his own death metal band in a different city..After his band broke up and i was kicked out of purgation(due to personal reasons) we decided to continue with Strangulate but as a Death Metal band..We both were big fan of bands like Cannibal Corpse,Morbid Angel.Autopsy,etc..Though we've had member changes and all which slowed us down..but here we are..going strong

3.Denzil   I  believe  you formed  Strangulate   in  2012    did  you  plan  to  keep    Strangulate   as  a  two  man  band  or  would  you   like  to  add   more  members  soon?

Well Strangulate started off as a two piece band..surprisingly it still is one..we did try few others..but there were there to play a 2-3 gigs..member changes did slow us down..But hopefully we find a permanent drummer and a bassist in the near future.

4.Strangulate  has  just  recently released their  debut  cd  "Catacombs Of  Death"  through  Transcending Obscurity Rec.  how  did you  come  in  contact  with  this  great  label?

Well i contacted Kunal Choksi of TO when i was recording our album..we was interested in what we do..after we were done recording i did send Kunal a rough mix and he was happy to sign us up.

5.I  believe you  are the  main  song  writer  for  the  band  so  how  long  does  it  take  you  to  write  one  song?

Well it depends..i just sit there jamming and when i come up with something i record it on my laptop..other time i have this idea in my head and i like to replicate it. so it depends..like Blood and Bones was written when we were already in the studio doing drum takes..i was just warming up ready to give my guitar take..so a certain warm up session turned out to be a song in our album.

6.Besides  the debut  cd   "Catacombs Of  Death"  does  the  band  have  any  other  merchandise  available  for the  readers? If  yes  where  can  the  readers  buy  it?

We have t-shirts out..we can order then at www.tometal.com

7. Denzil   you   handle  the  guitars  for   Strangulate    at   what  age  did you  become  interested  in  playing  the   guitars? Are  you  self taught   or  did you   have  some  lessons  when  first  starting  out?

Well i started playing guitar at the age of 16..at first i had someone  teaching me but i was not really interested in learning indian Bollywood music..so he left after 3 months and as they say Youtube is you best teahcher..and surely is. I had John Petrucci's Rock discipline Instructional dvd..which helped me from the get go.

8.Who  are  some  of your  influences/favorite  guitarists?Besides  the  guitars  do  you  currently  play  any other  instruments?

Well that's easy Yngwie Malmsteen, Marty Friendman and John Petrucci. Well i want to learn the piano but at this moment i'm mixing songs

9.In  your  opinion   what  is the  best  and  worst  thing  about  the  underground  metal today? And  what  does  underground  metal  mean  to  you?

Well it's like a brotherly thing..people who listen to metal music understand each other..metal music helps you get away from day to day bullshit in your life..to me underground metal is a life line..something good that keeps me going. The good thing about underground metal today is alot of people are appreciating what we do and people are interested in knowing more..people do turn up and support the bands and have a great time..but there're issues related to venues and organizers..

10.Strangulate  comes  out  of  India's  death  metal  scene. What  is your  opinion  of  India's  metal  scene?

Well indian metal scene is spread out.. like there's something happening in this city and locals bands and playing there and that's just it.. There are great bands in india but shows are limited..Number of metalheads are increasing which is a good thing..International bands does tour in indian..the turnout is decent..but as per local shows..there are few..mainly due to lack of organizer and venues.

11.Who  are your  all-time  favorite   bands  from  India? And  are their  any  new  up and  coming  bands  you  feel  the readers should  watch  out  for?

Well Kryptos, Dying Embrace are two of my favorites..there are new bands like Armament from our city..Great thrash metal band..Infernal Diatribe(black metal) Against Evil,Primitive,Evil Conscience

12.Besides   underground   bands  are  their  any  labels  or  web/fanzines  you  feel  the  readers  should   check  out  soon?

Well as of now i've nothing in mind..but Do check out transcending obscurity..

13.Besides  playing   in   Strangulate    are  you  or   Subhasish  currently  working  with   any other  bands? If  yes   please  tell the readers  a  little  about  them?

Well yes..i'll be tracking guitars for Divide Torture, death metal band from our city..i guess they will be releasing a new single in August..so yes stayed tuned. But mostly i'm working on Strangulate's new album..plan to release it next year or so.

14.When   not  working  on  new  music  or  band releated business  what  do  you  enjoy  doing  in your  free  time?

Well i like spend time with my Girlfriend..go out on a date..watch a movie.

15.Thank  you    Denzil    for  taking  the  time  to  fill this  interview  out  do  you  have  any  last  comments  for the  readers?

Well you're Welcome.. Keep Supporting underground music..if you like a band..buy their merch or cd..support that band and support your local scene.

fiendformetal@live.com

1.Hails you all formed Korgonthurus in 2002 what gave you all the idea to start this band? And how did you all choose the name of the band does it have a special meaning?

Incisura: I joined the band in 2012, so I'm not the right person to answer about the reformation of the band in 2002. To my knowledge Kryth, Necron and Corvus felt the urge to continue the work that had started under the name of Korgonthurus in 2000. The name Korgonthurus represents the force of evil, and in my opinion suits the music fine.

2. Korgonthurus is getting ready to release the second full-length cd "Vuohen Siunaus" Does the whole band work on writing the music or does one member usually write all the music?

Incisura: Most of the material on Vuohen Siunaus is something that has found its current form during the last decade. The very foundation has been built by Corvus and Kryth, and the compositions have evolved from there.

3.The band has been active since 2002 how would you say the music has evolved or changed over the years? And who are some of the bands biggest influences?

Incisura: The very basic feeling of violent and uttermost hatred is still there. In a way it has evolved to something different. Maybe the most striking difference between the old and new material is the more versatile use of two (or more) guitars. I personally find the general feel on S/T (2005) to be something that is very profound, and on this record we managed to take it to the next level. We are all products of the late 70's and early 80's and grew up on the extreme music what we could get are hands on. Even though we all have loved (and still do) the basic stuff from A blaze in a northern sky to more modern take on BM, I feel we have a voice of our own.

4.Besides the upcoming cd "Vuohen Siunaus" does the band have any other releases or merchandise available for the readers? If yes where can the readers buy it?

Incisura: We are about to open a webshop at our site (www.korgonthurus.com). Most of the old material is hard or almost impossible to find and ebay might be the only way of getting your hands on it. The latest album is easily available from Woodcut records and a vast array of distributors. Woodcut also released new shirts as the album came out and we are planning to do hoodies and patches as well.

5.Does Korgonthurus play "live" very often or do you prefer working in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows to date?

Incisura: We are not very active when it comes to playing live. We prefer quality over quantity when it comes to live rituals. Under the Black Sun in Germany was the only festival gig we did last year and I feel we managed to deliver what we aimed for. Earlier this year we had a joint effort of praising the horned one with Archgoat, Saturnian Mist and Sawhill Sacrifice which was a rather nice evening.

6.Are their any upcoming tours or shows the readers should watch out for and if yes where will the band be playing?

Incisura: At the moment we have no dates set on any gigs. We may have some national gigs on a short notice, but currently there are no plans on doing a tour of bigger scale. This may of course change if suitable offer happens to appear.

7.What does black metal mean to you ?

Incisura: In a way it defines me. It's something that I grew up with, it's something that grew in me. It's a combination of music, ideology and how to see the world. Thankfully black metal is something much more than music to many. I personally find it impossible to truly succumb to black metal without a real conviction. Satanic devotion is essential part of black metal.

8.Korgonthurus comes out of the mighty black metal scene in Finland.I know Finland has had a strong black metal scene since the mid ninites what are your opinions of the Finnish black metal scene over the years?

Incisura: As you may know, Finland has more metal bands per capita than any other country. This of course means that there has been quite a lot absolute shit as well. Finnish BM scene in the 90's had a lot to offer and I do feel the finns still manage to deliver something essential to the scene.

9.Who are your all-time favorite bands from Finland? And are their any new Finnish bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Incisura: It's a bit hard to not name the very basic BM legends like Beherit etc., and I'm honestly not that up to date what's happening in the current scene. The new Behexen sounds good and it seems like the upcoming Babtism is worth a spin. I've always liked the odd transitions that Festerday/...And Oceans/Havok Unit have done during the years. I guess the current situation is that Havok Unit works once again under the name Festerday.

10.Besides bands are their any good Finnish labels/distro's you can recommend? What about good fan/web-zines that you know of?

Incisura: This is a bit hard one since it seems like most of the old ones have already died. Saturnal Records is about to open a real physical store which is of course great news. Sarvilevyt, Northern Heritage, Primitive Reaction and KVLT are still going strong. Naturally a big hands up for Woodcut Records for giving an upportunity for bands like us to spread their disease. I'm still having fun with the legendary Kill yourself -zines from the mid '90s.

11.It seems the band is inspired by occultist and Satanists when did you become interested in studying these subjects?

Incisura: Naturally the interest on the subject grew in the early 90's as we found music that had the themes embedded on them.

12.Who are some Satanist and occultists that you enjoy studying? Besides the occult and Satanism do you enjoy reading any other subjects?

Incisura: I've come a long way from a strict theistic forms of satanism to more philosophical outtake. I'm not a fervent follower of LaVeyan satanism nor do I find thelemic approach the right one. The right path is not to use any paths that are already there. It's useless to name any names. If Blavatsky makes you feel at home, so could Nefastos or Mestari Siitoin. History is always worth reading - with or without occult underlining.

13.Are of the members of Korgonthurus currently working with any other bands at this time? And if yes please tell the readers a little about them?

Incisura: Corvus, Necron and Saturnus are currently recording/mixing the third album of Totalselfhatred and Kryth has been busy with Musta Kappeli and Anal Blasphemy. "Kun väistyy aika ihmisen", the second album by Musta Kappeli was released in May and the upcoming AB full-length is scheduled to be released in July.

14.Thank you all for taking the time to fill this interview out.Do you all have any final words for the readers?

Incisura: Thanks for the interesting interview. Woodcut is now streaming the full album on its bandcamp page (http://woodcutrecords.bandcamp.com/album/vuohen-siunaus ) - Give it a try!

Interview  with  Mortillery  done  by    Patrick

1.Hello  when  did you  all first   meet  and  was  it  long   before you  all  decided to  start  the  band? How  did you  all  choose  Mortillery  as the  name  of the  band?

-Hi! Miranda and I (Alex Gutierrez) met in 2008 and later that year we decided to start a band, we jammed a couple times and wrote a couple songs and shortly after we met Cara. She decided to joing the band and became the first and only singer the band has ever had.
Kevin is our second drummer and joined in 2010, Kent joined in 2013 and became our third lead guitarrist in history. We spent some time lookig for a name and since we wanted a one word name we took the words Mortal Artillery (also a song on our first album) and turned it to Mortillery.

2.What  is  the  current  line-up  for the  band? Shapeshifter   is the  bands third  cd  how  would  you  say the  music  has evolved over the  years?

 Cara McCutchen – Vocals
Alex Gutierrez – Guitars/Vocals
Miranda Wolfe – Bass
Kent Quinlan – Guitars/Vocals
Kevin Gaudet – Drums
We feel like our music is more focused, we have showed growth and better song writing .

3. Mortillery   are  getting  ready to  release  the  band's  third  cd  " Shapeshifter"  does  the  whole  band take  part  in the  writing  process  or  does  one  member   usually  write  everything?

-We start with guitar and bass riffs, once we have a skeleton we add drums and finish the structure, after that we add vocals and fix any parts that need work so I guess we all get pretty involved.

4.Who    usually    writes  the  lyrics  for the  band  and  what  are  some  subjects  the band  writes  about  on the  new  release?

-At first i helped a lot with lyrics but for the last two albums Cara has done majority of the lyrics. We sing about war, biology, cryptids, natural disasters, chages within us, and all that cool stuff.

5.What   have  been  some   of   Mortillery's  most  memorable  shows  over the  years?

-I’d say touring with Sepultura is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to us.

6.Are  their  any  tour  plans  in  support  of  " Shapeshifter"  and  if  yes  where  are  some  countries the  band  will  be  playing?

-Yes! We will be in Europe from October 19 to October 31 with Suicidal Angels, Skull Fist, Evil Invaders. This tour will take us through Germany, Poland, Hugry, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Austria.

7.Has  Mortillery   ever  done  any  video's   for the  past releases?  Are their  any  plans  to  do  a  video  for  any  songs  off the  new  release?

-From our second album, „Origen of Extinction“  we did a video for „F.O.A.D“ and we have recently released a video for „Torture“ from our brand new album. We hope to release aother video soon!

8.Mortillery  comes   out  of  Canada's  thrash  metal  scene  what  is  your  opinion  of  the  thrash  scene  in  Canada?

-Its more of a underground scene than a genre specific one, we hang with punks and rockabillies just as much. Anything rock n roll goes you know. Its pretty fun becaus we have a tight community here!

9.Who   are  some  of your  all-time  favorite  Canadian    bands? And   are their   any  new  bands  you  feel  the readers  should  watch  out  for?

-Razor and Sacrifice are classic Canadian bands. Recently we’ve been playing with Gatekrashor and Riot City from Calgary Alberta, you gotta check them out.

10.In  your  opinion  what  does  Underground  metal  mean  to you?

 -D.I.Y

11.When  not  working  on  new  music  or  band  business  what do you  all  enjoy  doing  in your  free  time?

-We’re all very different, our personal activities range from teaching yoga to gardening, from traveling to tattoing!

12.Thank  you  for  taking  the  time  to  fill  this  interview   out  do you   have   any  final  words  for the  readers?

-Thanks for this opportunity! See ya on the road!
