We’re a three piece doom metal outfit. M.V. and I used to play in another doom metal band, Apotelesma, which is when an early conception of Angmodnes came to be. Some material written for Apotelesma was rejected, but I wanted to work on the material anyway, which created a natural branch-off.

2.When did you first discover death and funeral doom metal music and what is it about this genre of music that you love so much?

Y.S.: For me, I think my introduction to doom was Anathema. The first truly funereal doom was probably Worship. But I’ve always gravitated toward music that sounds tragic and sorrowful. Doom metal is just one particular genre of typically sorrowful music.

F.S.: I’m relatively new to the genre, but was always drawn toward the gloomier music. Only singing ballads or playing piano pieces that would make people sobb. Even though I do consider myself a cheerful and upbeat person, performing happy music is not my cup of tea :)

M.V.: I discovered doom metal through a friend of mine about fifteen years ago. For me, the combination of music and emotion is very important. I can find that in many genres (even outside of metal), but doom metal stands out in its ability to really immerse someone in sorrow and sadness.

3.Who were the first bands that caught your attention?Who are some of the current bands that you have been listening to lately?

Y.S.: Many of my favourite doom bands today are the same ones that I got into when I really started digging into the doom genre. Worship, Doom:VS, Shape of Despair, Hamferð and Ahab immediately spring to mind. Anathema, too, though they moved away from playing doom metal. I am very excited for the new Hamferð record coming out soon.

F.S.: Hamferð is definitely one of my favorites too! But honestly I also like to listen to artists like Billie Eilish, Dead Can Dance, Wardruna, Joe Hisaishi, Paris Paloma, Sonata Arctica, Belzebubs and First Aid Kit.

M.V.: I started with bands like AHAB, Doom:VS, YOB, Warning, 40 Watt Sun and Akelei (which are still among my favorite doom metal bands). I have since then discovered bands like Bell Witch (one of my absolute favorites), Ard, Hamferd, KAUAN, Pallbearer, Pantheist and much more. But I still listen to those bands I discovered years ago a lot. Besides doom metal, I’m a big Neurosis, Wardruna and Townes van Zandt fan, to name a few.

4.Angmodnes was started in 2013 when did you and the other members first decide to start this band? Are you satisfied with how things have gone with the band over the years?

Y.S.: back when M.V. and I played in Apotelesma, I wrote a lot of material that the rest of the band felt didn’t fit the stylistic direction for the band. I always thought the material had potential and wanted to keep working on it. Back then, the working title for the new project was Persephone. The material was never fully finished until we started working on it again in 2020.

F.S.: Angmodnes started out for me like an experiment. I had been singing for myself and family for a while but never truly considered joining a band due to the lovely concept of imposter syndrome. Y.S. asked me if I wanted to try backing vocals for the first album. And so we started recording, trying to keep low pressure. For Rot of the Soul we went in a lot more deliberate and both gents agreed to make me part of the band.

M.V.: Y.S. asked me to play drums for the aforementioned Persephone project back in 2015. Back then, I didn’t really follow up on that. In 2020 he asked me again, and the material he wrote immediately hit the right spot.

5.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences? For the readers who have never heard Angmodnes how would you best describe the bands music?

Y.S.: The main inspiration point for The Weight of Eternity and Under Darkened Vaults was Worship’s Dooom album, even though Angmodnes sounds nothing like it. I start out with a somber dirge but my love for more climactic tragedy always seeps through and changes the composition’s direction. In the end I think we have more in common with Shape of Despair or Doom:VS than the aforementioned Worship.

M.V.: We get compared a lot to Shape of Despair, Anathema (because of the clean vocals of Y.S.), My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. Personally, I do not agree with the last two and would say that we sound more like AHAB, Doom:VS and Mournful Congregation, combined with the aforementioned bands.

6.Rot Of The Soul is the debut full length how long did it take the band to write the music for the debut release? How long does it usually take to complete one song?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?

F.S.: For the backing vocals it was an interesting combination of pre-thought out melodies by Y.S. and on the fly improvisation. Getting in the mood and seeing where the sound takes you during recording is a process I very much enjoy.

Y.S.: After the release of The Weight of Eternity, M.V. and I really rediscovered our love for doom. I had been primarily involved in music closer to black metal for many years but had found myself feeling uninspired until I got back into doom after almost a decade. And doing clean vocals for the first time opened up a new avenue as well. I think Rot of the Soul came together in a very organic way, with ideas flowing together seamlessly.

M.V.: To put it in percentages, I guess Y.S. is responsible for 85% of the riffs which were used for “Rot of the Soul”. So we can say that he does the most work. Like Y.S. states, our music is created around certain emotions and feelings. For the drums, I typically just record what comes to mind when I listen to the material Y.S. sends me.

7.Where does the band draw inspiration for the lyrics? What are some subjects written about on the debut release?

Y.S.: Well, people refer to The Weight of Eternity as an EP due to its runtime of 36 minutes, but I actually view it as our debut album, personally. Lyrically, both albums deal with the same themes — depression, existential dread, detachment. Rot of the Soul is a little more structured in detailing the gradual descent into ever increasing spiritual malaise. I take a lot of inspiration from Emil Cioran and Mitchel Heisman.

8.Besides the upcoming Rot Of The Soul release are the bands previous releases still availible for the readers to purchase? Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available? If yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?

M.V.: We still have some copies of “The Weight of Eternity” available. This is our EP, which was released in September 2022 as a limited edition digipack cd. Besides that, we also have a t-shirt with a black and white design of the album cover of “Rot of the Soul”. All our merchandise can be bought on our Bandcamp page, https://angmodnes.bandcamp.com.

9.Has Angmodnes ever played live or do you prefer working in the studio? If you have performed live what have been some of the bands most memorable shows?

M.V.: We have never played live, and at the moment we are not planning to play live shows in the near future.

10.Are their any shows planned in support of the new release? If yes where will the band be playing?

M.V.: Like stated above, we have no desire to play live, so we will not be playing shows to support the release of our full length.

11.Besides working in Angmodnes do any of the members currently work with other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

M.V.: Both Y.S. and I are involved in several studio projects. My “main” side project is Koudvuur, which is traditional Nordic folk. We released a single in December 2023 called “Dunkar Nar Lieht”. Songs in this project are improvisation based.

Y.S.: I enjoy working on Koudvuur. It being the brain child of M.V. and not metal is an interesting change of dynamics. Wilds Forlorn has been my solo project for a long time, but sometimes I’ll be inspired to write something in a different style and a new project is born. Aside from the many solo ventures, I also play live guitar for Sterveling.

12.When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

F.S.: In my not-band-time I do a lot of illustration and art related work. Drawing, painting, linocuts, sewing projects. Other than that I like to play the dungeon master in D&D games and enjoy the occasional video game (I’m looking at you, Baldur’s Gate 3).

M.V.: I try to work out a few times a week. Besides that, I like collecting vinyl records, listening to music, playing video games and participating in the D&D games where F.S. is the dungeon master.

Y.S.: Now that Rot of the Soul is out, my way of taking a break from doing such a big intensive project is to start working on something simpler. Music production is what I’m most passionate about in my free time. But I too enjoy geeky medieval fantasy things.

13.Angmodnes comes out of The Netherlands funeral doom metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in The Netherlands?

M.V.: The metal scene in the Netherlands mainly revolves around black metal, death metal and several core related genres. There are some excellent doom metal bands here in the Netherlands, but the amount of bands in the “slower genres” in the Netherlands is quite low.

14.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of the Netherlands? Are their any new bands you could recomend to the readers?

M.V.: Doom metal wise, I would really recommend Officium Triste, Akelei, Eaters of the Soil and Façade. Besides that, we have some really good local bands like Terzij de Horde and Wesenwille.

Y.S.: Locus Amoenus’ latest work also hits the spot. It’s a real pleasure to be talking with you, danke

1- Tell us about Vanwa, when/where/why was the band formed?

1. The band was formed 2 years ago whenI had written the first two songs, „oh dark son of night“and „the depth of the misty woods“. I decided to put them out on a record and therefore I formed the band as a solo project.

2- Run us through your stunning debut album, undeniably one of the best debut albums in many years…

2. The first track of the album starts with a long synth intro which I originally want to put out as a separate song. I tried some different versions and decided that it really connect with the first song. The song starts slow but becomes a more and more aggressive, demonic but atmospheric song.

The second song is a very straight song and is for me personally made in one session and goes from one simple riff idea. It is the first song I have written for Vanwa.

Fortress of the cold east became more aggressive than I thought in the first plays. Very Windir inspired and an homage to Elizabeth Bathory in the lyrics and the song from Tomentor. I’m just a to big fan, haha. I tried that you could hear a cold castle somewhere in the nowhere of the east.

Through forest and mountains would be my personal homage to Quorthon and Bathory.

I was more into first wave blackmetal and particularly the more Nordic and folk stuff. I think you can hear it.

Scarborough fair was an idea i had for a long time and i decided to make my own version of this beautiful melody which always keeps the spirit of nature for me. You can see it as a Bonus track.

3- What are the inspirations behind the lyrics?

3. I mentioned some things before. Oh dark son of night would be some demonic worship, like a arising antichrist. All my lyrics have always fantasy with in it.

The depth of the misty woods will follow with more depressive lyrics, like trapped in your own mind as an endless whirl of thoughts.

Through forest and mountains tells a story of a questing knight on a quest for becoming a brave hero. Futher on his road he will understand that it’s not the path he really wants to go on and finally he finds the place where he belongs. The beautiful nature without any stuff that can bothering him.

4- What were your musical influences growing up and what do you listen to now?

4. I grew up with some classy heavy metal. Metallica and the The Number of the beast. I was only 6 years old but for many years i just listened to them! It starts with 14 when I searched for more and more music. It took me some years to get to my music interests of today. My biggest influences are Windir, Dissection and Bathory. The songwriting, the melodies and atmosphere of Windir is just incredible! Nodtveids performance and riffs had a big impact on me! And Bathory is just Bathory.

5- What was the process recording the album? The tracks are all very well-orchestrated and well written, where was it recorded? Who did the production?

5. I wrote and recorded the songs within two years and on my own. The drums are programmed because my drums skills were not good enough. So, it is a solo project where I did all on my own.

6- What are your plans for the future?? I understand you’re planning to play some live shows with Vanwa at some point? That would certainly be a powerful force on the live stage…

6. Yeah, my plan is to play live. There is not a show announced right now but I’m getting some live musicians together. And of course, the vinyl and cd release will be great!

7- What is your opinion of the post-pandemic Black Metal scene, and how do you see it developing over the next 5 or 10 years?

7. So, the pandemic was bad for the live situation in Germany. We lost some locations. But now its really much the same than before the pandemic. The Blackmetal and heavy metal shows are the most visited underground metal genres in Germany, and I think it will be like that or even better in the future.

8- If you could play or record with any musician live or dead, who would it be and why?

8. It obviously will be one of the guys that I mentioned as inspiration. I guess Valfar would be my choice. That would be an honour.

9- What is your local scene like there in Germany? Recommend some new bands for our readers to explore…

9. There are so many bands in Germany. I would recommend Zwielicht and a band called Myrkgrav from Norway I kept enjoying a lot. Not new bands but I explore them last year.

10- What are your top 5 albums of all time?

10. 1. Ride the Lightning

2. Number of the Beast

3. Axioma Ethica Odini

4. Arntor

5. Opus Eponymous

11- Do you have any side projects apart from Vanwa? Tell us about them…

11. I have a Melodic Deathmetal project, and it called “The Dark Believing”. I am right now recording a new full-length album.

12- What advice would you give to any up and coming musicians looking to follow in your footsteps?

12. The advice would be to put your stuff out and don’t waste your time. A songwriting advice would be to filter your ideas until your proud or completely fine with any simple or little idea.Nower days it’s so easy to create music and record it but I have the feeling that it has a complicity of quantity instead of quality.

13. Thank you for checking out, Vanwa and Master of Kaos Records!

Metal Hails from Germany!

Vielen Dank Morquendi..

Hails

Vana Contacts https://vanwa.bandcamp.com/album/vanwa https://www.facebook.com/vanwaofficial https://www.instagram.com/vanwa_official/
Winter Torment Web-zinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08140199757187449255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3890155631673786938.post-30805214209757927742024-02-18T16:29:00.000-08:002024-02-18T16:29:55.391-08:00Ornamentos Del Miedo--Escapando A Traves De La Tierra cd{Meuse Music Rec./Tragedy Prod.} Posted on 2-18-24

Ornamentos Del Miedo is a solo project coming out of Spain's death doom metal scene.Escapando A Traves De La Tierra is the newest full length featuring six tracks of sorrow filled death, doom metal. The guitars are done with some extremly well composed and performed slow to mid paced passages. Each song is done with a dreary atmosphere and dreadful feeling. The vocals are low death metal growls that create another layer to the somber musicial journey on the newest release.Ornamentos Del Miedo has created a great release of heavy, atmospheric death, doom and all fans of this genre should check this band out today. Do you think you can surpass previous releases? Tell us about the new material you're recording...

Rebellion. - The Fire That Burned Within is the foundation of what we are working on, our Debut Ep is the catapult for what is to come and anticipating something of what it will be like, we can inform you that it will have more strength and more darkness, a direct and clear message, no We seek to indoctrinate or boast of having otherworldly knowledge that only the Initiates know. No, we precisely opt for a Black Metal that goes against it, being the backbone of following the path of precisely how the movement emerged.

4- What were your musical influences growing up?

Rebellion. - The family context greatly delimits these influences, my older brothers to this day continue listening to rock and roll from the 70s and its crossover with disco music, obviously that guides us to search for an identity finding Heavy Metal and from there we don't We finished continuing to look for proposals until today.

5- When did you start playing music? And what was your first instrument?

Rebellion. - The drums were our first and only instrument, between the last year of high school and the transition to high school we met a friend who had his band and we were lucky that he invited us to a rehearsal, with this we began to explore and practice giving guideline to form my first Black Metal Band.

6- Do you have any other side projects apart from Semjaza?

Rebellion. - Yes, the first is Ars Inferi which debuted live in 2004 and is active today 2024.

● · “Signa Animorum Inferi" (2005) Demo.

● · “I am one with night" (2007) Full Length.

● · “Sarcophagia" (2011) Full Length.

● · “Negative Utopia" (2015) Full Length.

Official Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/ars.inferi

The second project is I.N.R.I. (1975)

● Motley Crue, Shout at the Devil (1983)

● Slayer, Reign in Blood (1986)

● Judas Priest, Painkiller (1990)

● Darkthrone, Soulside journey (1991)

9- If you could play with any musician, living or dead, who would it be?

Rebellion. - Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, Ray Manzarek from The Doors, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, David Gilmour from Pink Floyd.

10- As part of the growing wave of young and talented artists, how do you see the scene developing in the coming years?

Rebellion. – Previously we mentioned that the scene is developing well and we consider that this trend will continue, we hope that it crystallizes and does not end with a great wave of albums by hollow and empty artists or remakes because this is also abundant.

11- What do you think are the main differences between the 'old school' and the so-called 'new school' of extreme music?

Rebellion. - We had a time when extreme music releases and their ideological-musical sieve, although they belonged to a genre, their essence was different, they sounded different. Today they emulate, clone, what they like and that cannot be. Black Metal has always been about expressing something personal, values, principles, traditions, whatever you like to call it, are the foundations and roots. Our banner.

12- Where would you like to take Semjaza? Do you have future plans to play live in Europe?

Rebellion. – First we will continue working on our musical ideological consolidation, a full-length album with the quality that it really entails in body and soul, perhaps some live performances, but without a doubt it is hierarchy to raise the level to show an optimal degree whether in Europe or any side.

13- - Would you like to add something for our readers?

Rebellion. - Thank them and invite them to light their internal Flame, and remind them “…remain faithful to the earth and do not believe those who speak to you about unearthly hopes! …They despise life, they are dying and they, too, are poisoned, the earth is tired of them: I hope they disappear!" (Nietzsche, F).

Many thanks to Semjaza! THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TALK TO OUR READERS.

1- Tell us about the roots of KORKVAK, when, where and why did you decide to form the band?

KorkvaK was born on October 31, 2012, in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. Under hermetic and occult ideals we have developed our own and forceful sound, through which the Rebellion and the purest cosmogony are present.

And more than a decision korkvak is created under a need. which is to attend to the call of nature and its mysticism, to claim the hidden knowledge of the being and to rediscover that connection with nature and the cosmos that opens the way to the supremacy of the being in its maximum autonomy.

2- Tell us about your discography and let our readers know where they can get copies.

We have participated in a couple of Splits, such as the "Alianza Impia del Sur" of which some copies still exist and "Conciencias Divididas" a limited edition Colombian Black metal compilation. And right now we are promoting Our EP "Angeli Descensus" which is a Collection piece.

3- I understand that you are about to release a new album in 2024, what will it be like? Do you think you can surpass previous releases? Tell us about the new material you're recording...

Our New Album will exceed any expectations we have had before, we have managed to achieve an impeccable and forceful work, 9 songs will be Rebelled that from beginning to end are a mystical journey to cold and dark paths in the middle of funereal beings.

Its name will be "The fall Of The Gods" and it will have 9 tracks that will undoubtedly accompany the struggle with their own self, of each listener.

Songs like "Renacer" or "Corpus Mistycum" are songs that show our years of work and it will really be from another plane where you can perceive Korkvak in essence.

I can only say that we are more than proud of the result and we hope that it reaches the most intimate and sensitive fibers of our listeners.

4- What were your musical influences growing up?

Definitely the old school was always accompanying us

There were more bands that, over time, guided our spectrum and objectives.

How they were. Windir, Cor Scorpii, Angantyr or the masters of Lord Belial but when we talk about influence we refer to an endless number of sounds that psychedelia and music include have slowly guided us to what we recognize today as Korkvak.

5- When did you start playing music? And what was your first instrument?

I started around the age of 12 or 13 and although over time I learned to play various instruments, there is no doubt that the guitar is my greatest ally on this path, it is where all my musical experience lies and with which I am most able to express so much. unimaginable emotions that range from the strident and chaotic to beautiful classical passages that become soundtracks of perverse feelings.

6- Do you have any other side projects apart from KORKVAK?

I am currently a guitarist for Unchained, a very captivating band thanks to the technicality with which it is handled, I also play winds, choirs and keyboards with them. We currently have an album titled "The Calling"

7- Tell us about the extreme metal scene in COLOMBIA..

Colombia has always been a land of war and death and that makes it a tireless source of gangs, it is an aggressive and violent scene with exponents who have left their mark worldwide.

8- What are your 5 best albums of all time?

It is a very difficult question since everything has been a chain of contributions from many bands since the beginning and you cannot talk about one without referring to the union it has with another and I think that is the magic of all this

But I will name a few that I know we consider in Korkvak and they would be

1- Reinkaos - Dissection. 4- A blaze in The North in sky - Darktrhone

2-The Black Curse - Lord Belial 5-Divine Nemesis - Satyricon

3 Dreamquest – Evol

9- If you could play with any musician, living or dead, who would it be?

I would play "the Devil's Trill" with Giuseppe Tartini.

10- As part of the growing wave of young and talented artists, how do you see the scene developing in the coming years?

I believe that new bands are growing exponentially and that over the years the sound that we inherit to new generations will be what they will later take as a basis or influence to make their own and hence the importance of having solid material in composition, in arrangements in production but above all it is Chaos and destruction, so that feeling of anger will prevail in the new ranks and will continue to spread the dark fog of Black Metal.

11- What do you think are the main differences between the 'old school' and the so-called 'new school' of extreme music?

-The soul with which things were made. And the coherence of the procedure.

12- Where would you like to take KORKVAK? Do you have future plans to play live in Europe?

First of all, we seek to reach listeners who agree with our sound and take Korkvak around the world, feeding those minds that find peace in chaos.

Europe would be an excellent opportunity, we still do not have an event there but we will surely look for alliances to be able to take our presentations somewhere on the old continent.

13- - Would you like to add something for our readers?

Thank Jay for this interview and invite all his readers to purchase our Ep and soon Our album "The fall Of The Gods"

Thank you

Many thanks to R’LYEH! Korkvak has crafted a great debut EP, of fast and furious black metal with some very well written and performed keyboard passages. If you are a fan of quality, atmospheric black metal then do not let Korvak pass you by. Personally i am not the biggest fan of blackend punk but Shoggoth does create some really good songs on the debut. If you are a fan of old school black metal and punk you should defintly check this band and release out. Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers?

Hello sickos! This is Cercenatory and my name is Gerson Puello, usually known as Gers or GersGrind. I'm the bands drummer. It's a pleasure to give this interview.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

2. When did you first discover brutal death metal music and who were the first bands that you listened to? Who are some of the current bands that you have been listening to?

I (Gerson) remember discovering BDM when I was getting off school, the first bands I remember listening to are Dying Fetus, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Devourment, Pustulated, Deeds Of Flesh, Brodequin, Liturgy, Cinerary, Disgorge, Lividity, a lot of Colombian brutality like Internal Suffering, Pyaemia, Goretrade, Carnal, Carnivore Diprosopus, Amputated Genitals, among many others. Fernando, Adolfo and David are old listeners as well, we pretty much listen to the same kind of bands. We still listen to the bands I mentioned, among other bands like Defeated Sanity, Amagortis, Enmity, Disentomb, Cerebral Effusion, Vomit Remnants, Excoriation, Prostitute Disfigurement, Inveracity, Asphyxiate, Bleeding Corpse, Cadavoracity, Despondency, Putrid Pile, Inherit Disease... there are so many bands, we are good listeners of extreme music and we listen to everything we can even from old school death metal to the most extreme.

3. When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you all formed Cercenatory? How did you all choose Cercenatory as the name of the band does it have a special meaning?

Our city is really not a brutal city. BDM wasn't that popular when we first met, so it was easy to find the right people going to the few shows we had there. I first met Fernando, who I started the band with and we became good friends because even though he is older and one of the firsts in the city to listen to extreme music, we liked a lot of the same bands. Then I met Adolfo, because I was getting drum lessons from band drummer (Mesentherio, later Incinerating Prophecies), however we did not become friends until later on. Lastly, I met David, he used to play for a Thrash metal band called Morbid Ritual and we recruited him to play with us. We really became good friends and we still are, to us Umi's essential to be friends in order to play in the same band, we strongly believe that being good people comes before being a musician.

4. What is the current lineup of the band?

The current lineup is Gerson (drums), David (guitar), Fernando (vocals) and Adolfo (bass). I'm glad have found these guys to keep doing what we love, especially David who has been with me since we started and it's great to have Fernando back in the band since he is also a founder. He actually named the band and I carried it when he had to leave for personal reasons. Adolfo has been a great ad because he is an excellent musician, one of the best I know and he has brought a lot of value to us.

5. Who would you say are the bands biggest influences? And for the readers who have never heard the band how would you best describe the bands musical style?

Our biggest influences are Disgorge, Cinerary, Liturgy, Brodequin, Deeds Of Flesh, Goratory, Internal Suffering, Goretrade (the splits), Carnal, Disavowed, Pyaemia, among a few others. We have been influenced by many scenes like Philippines, Indonesia, USA, Europe and specially Colombia. I would say that the best way to describe Cercenatory is as a dynamic, powerful and now a bit technical. Even though we are Colombian our style doesn't sound much like most bands in the country.

6. ’GoreSphere’ is the bands second full length release that will be released through Comatose Music when did you first come in contact with this label?

I got in contact with Comatose after the sad news we all know about Unmatched Brutality. We signed with UBR back in 2018 when shared stage with Brodequin when they came back on stage. Sadly, the label is no longer active and we couldn't release before they closed. I just decided then to contact a few labels, Comatose was one of the first labels I contacted, I sent the label our single "Crucified, Gutted, Desecrated" and Steve liked it, so as soon as I got a response from him I stopped writing to other labels and it was really very easy for us to make the decision to sign with Comatose. It's an amazing label, with a lot of history and it's always been one of the best labels for extreme music. We are happy to have signed.

7. How long did it take the band to write the music for the new release? Does the whole band work on the music or does one member usually write everything?

We always work as a team when writing. Nobody is really in charge of a single duty, we all collaborate to write guitars, drums, vocals, bass. David makes some riffs, then he shows the riffs to the band and we start writing from there, fixing a few things, correcting others, same thing goes with the drums, bass and lyrics. For this album we did give more freedom to Fer, he has excellent lyrics writing skills and a killer musical instinct and when he showed us what he had and started singing we loved it. We didn't have to edit much from what he did, it was just right on the money.

8. Besides the upcoming ‘GoreSphere’ CD are the bands previous releases still available for the readers to purchase? And will you all have any new merchandise for the upcoming release? If yes where can the readers purchase your merchandise?

There are a few items for sale. I know that Amputated Vein Records has some copies of our EP ‘Gorification of All Mental Diseases’ which sold a lot, if any readers are interested they can go to their store and purchase. Our first full length is still sold by Coyote Records, but we have no more copies with us. We do have shirts available and very soon we will have a new lot of shirts of ‘GoreSphere’ available and of course CDs. Comatose will also have Shirts and CDs available of course starting February 16th. You guys can pre-order now. Make sure to check our Facebook page and IG page to see all our items available. www.facebook.com/cercenatorycol or just type Cercenatory, same with IG.

9. Has Cercenatory played very many live shows over the years? If yes what have been some of the bands most memorable shows over the years? Who are some bands you have had the opportunity to share the stage with?

We've been active for 11 years now and during this time we have played maybe 4 or 5 shows per year. We've been lucky to have shared the stage with bands like Devourment, Internal Bleeding, Animals Killing People, Brodequin, Putrid Pile, Condemned, Invidiosus, Vomitory, C.A.R.N.E, Malignancy, Paracoccidioidomycosis Proctitisarcomucosis, Urtikaria Anal, Surgery, Decrepit Cadaver, and most of Colombian brutal bands like Goretrade, Evil Darkness, Impure Faith, Ancient Necropsy,Inbreeding Sick, Carnal Blasphemy, Goreobscenity, Mindly Rotten, Bacteremia, among many other national and international bands. We've been very lucky to come from a place where there was no BDM at all and get to share with such amazing bands.

10. Are there any tours or shows planned in support of ‘GoreSphere’? If yes where will the band be performing?

We are working in touring to promote ‘GoreSphere’, however nothing has been confirmed yet. Even though we have solid conversation with some promoters we rather not share those details until everything is confirmed. One thing you should know is that people will definitely be able to see us live very soon again ripping new and old songs. Also, if any promoter is reading this and wants to have us playing in your city or country don't hesitate to message us. We are eager to play live everywhere we can!

11. Cercenatory comes out of Colombia's brutal death metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Colombia over the years?

To us, the Colombian scene is one of the best in the world. I remember that one of the things that really made me listen to extreme music is when I discovered all these Colombian bands that I used to dream about seeing live, and now most of them are friends and people we frequently see in shows and we have a good time with. The way Colombian bands play is just very extreme, nasty, hateful, hideous, it's got all the elements to make good BDM.

12. Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Colombia's metal scene? Who are some of the current bands that you could recommend to the readers?

All-time favorite bands from Colombia are definitely Internal Suffering, Carnivore Diprosopus, Goretrade, Carnal, Amputated Genitals, Ancient Necropsy, Blaze Inside, Evil Darkness, Purulent, Mindly Rotten, I'm not sure if I forget some. Really most bands I know in the country aren't new, but there are definitely some bands that are worth mentioning. One of the best bands I can recommend from my country and my region is Morgues, they just released their debut full length though Infinite Putrefaction records, Grotesque Atrocity that are waiting on their album as well through Mutilated Records, Solengium that has been out there for a while and are incredible musicians, Kinguts also great friends and well known, Impure Faith that I play with and we are working on our next full length, Decarabion that I also play with and we have released an EP just a few months ago, Human Abasement that are doing a great job but are relatively new. Those ones I can mention.

13. Besides working in Cercenatory do any of the members currently play in any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

Yes. I personally work with Impure Faith and Decarabion like I mentioned in the previous question. I work in these bands as a solid drummer for touring, composition and everything else. I also work with Amputated Genitals as a live drummer only, I played with AG back in 2018 and now I'll be going at it again for the next Mexican Tour in March. Other bands I play with are Catacombs (old school DM) from Barranquilla, Leprodermic that I started with Jhenry (Infectology) and Oscar (Esophageal, Scatology Secretion) but now the new guitar is Daniel Lara (Decarabion). David has a one man band called Basatan and he released a full length back in 2012, it's a great band worth listening to, he also has another band called Brutally Impaled and they are currently working in songs and recording after a little while. Adolfo has played for some bands out there like Mesentherio, Incinerating Prophecies, Mouldered, all bands from my city and he and I are working on a BDM band that we hope sees the light very soon and we hope Fernando can do the vocals for. Fernando doesn't play in any other band and has never played in any other band.

14. When you need to take a break from working on music or band business what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Well, we really never take breaks from music, but when we take a break from work and Business we just like to travel, to chill at the beach, go to a bar, we like to smoke a lot of marihuana and have some beers, some shots, talk a lot of shit and laugh telling stories. Most of our free time we just decide to listen to music and talk, no matter the place. We are very fun people so we have one thousand stories to tell and laugh at.

15. Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

We want to thank all brutalheads around the world who have supported us during our 11 years career, we also want to thank you Winter Torment for giving us this space to speak about us and what we got for all the international brutal community. We encourage all sick supporters to keep doing what you do best, showing up to shows, buying merch, CDs, LPs, which is a passion for all. We hope to see every one of you soon and visit your country/city. Keep spreading the disease!! I'm a guitar player and a full-time metal cover and graphic artist known as MacSlaughterday for some years, so I'm very happy with that.

2.When did you first discover Metal music? And who were the first bands and artists that you listened to?

Was at the end of 1989. Metallica started to become mainstream, releasing thash to the masses. I got Ride the Lightning on tape and it turns me nuts, I never heard such good music as that besides some classic music tunes, for me it was not just follow an idiot gang stuff. Still today this is one of my favorites. After I joined the tribe, checking out fantastic albums and meeting good friends, for me was a contra culture and still it is, was absolutely fantastic.

My first bands were Death, Kreator, King Diamond, Exodus, Dark Angel, The Exploited, Dead Kennedys.

3.Was it long before you discovered death and the more extreme metal genres?Who were the first bands to catch your attention? Who are some current bands that you have been listening to?

I'm a weird person I'm into fanatism too, but I like freedom, a complex I guess as mostly of humans, but even like that and overall the violence that I experienced in my childhood and nonacceptance from society. I feel more comfortable in this bizarre arts field. To me, it is another world and a way to express. In metal, I found that unreal real-world happening somehow. Extreme and more bizarre styles were my fascination. I did jump into that and looking for that constantly, I dislike mainstream metal bands, that use metal elements, pure weekend entertainment, no risk, no more meanings just aesthetics, complacent with the establishment, just entertainment.

The first bands were Morbid Angel, Nocturnus, Exmortis, Fatal, Slaughter. Cryptic Slaughter, Invocator, Dark Angel, Eucharist, Autopsy, plus some punk acts like The Exploited, Discharged, G.B.H. The Misfits, Agnostic Front, Gorilla Biscuits, and some goth, industrial bands, and classic composers. Currently, I'm into Funeral Mist, Krypts, Dead Congregation, Agnes Obel, Blodtâr, Insect Warfare, Venenum, Funeral Chant, Cattle Decapitation, Katharsis, Blood Incantation, Concrete Winds etc.

4.Thornafire was started in 1998 what gave you all the idea to start this band? How did you choose Thornafire as the name of the band?

I was playing on other Santiago bands, and I wanted to release faster material do the band's activities more fast, and manage better my music target, a bit away from the North American metal that ruled the head of people in Chile back then.About the name, back then in ‘98 good names with one world were empty so many bands as At the Gates, Night in Gales, In Flames, started to appear, so just we jumped into that tendency, The name was chosen by Anthorn former singer that managed the half of the band's concept, he drawn the amazing logo too.

5.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and have they remained the same over the years? For the reader's who have never heard the band how would you best describe Thornafire's musical style?

For me Eucharist, Entombed, Bathory, Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Hypocrisy (old) I do like Bulldozer sound, fat and massive and evocative with sensibility. As a player I`m much into barbarism, bloodshed, and cruelty of od Sodom, Katharsis, early Krisiun, and Angel Corpse but I love it as a listener.

6.Leprosario Lazareto is the bands latest full length how long did it take the band to write the music for this release?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?

Oh, after some European tours, and a Magnaa album I was trying to see the repercussions of these latest magik and hard work times with the band, so after two live albums, Live in Berlin and Live in London I was ready to keep making more music. I did the whole album by myself with the help of drums and arrangements from Tomas Garcia, There were super hard times, everything against, but in my opinion, metal is a force against the odds too.

7.Who usually handles writing the lyrics and what are some subjects written about on the new release?Which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?

Lyrics are poetic representations of forces beyond this world, sometimes bitter, sometimes serious. First of all, is the music, I'm not a lyric writer, but sometimes we do use a poetic alchemist book writer from Chile, Patricio Araya, I just wrote “El coro de los hambrientos en tus oidos conchetumadre” which is my freewill and ambiguous astrophysical representation of these low vibes and distorted civil values there in Chile.

8.Besides the Leprosario Lazareto release are the bands previous releases still available for the readers to purchase?

Besides physical releases is their anymore merchandise currently availible for the reader to purchase? If yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?

Yes, all the productions are along with Umbrium records (umbrium.cl) by now And Leprosario is available here in Europe under Great Dane records.

9.What does Underground Metal mean to you?

Is a magik music out of this world, the tunes and the esthetics and lyrics sometimes are a unique grotesque expression, for many is just music to make friends and entertainment after the job, for me, many times speaks louder about the organization and hypocrisy of the societies, how they lie to you, terrifies you, organize you under their reality representation, for me many times this music vomits back all the same uglyness and anger that society brings to you day by day. Is Catharsis too. This expression is there, free, without a leader, and is not a sophisticated circle, like reading fancy writers or other expression forms, that demands you enter some sophisticated circle. Underground caught my attention

And what is it that keeps you motivated to keep going in the underground scene over the years?

Cause always i have the freedom to choose it, very different from other life aspects where I have to adapt and follow rules.

10.Thornafire comes out of Chile's death metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Chile over the decade's?

’80s and 90’s this scene was outstanding and fantastic, we had the Pinochet regime, so many musicians said that they just did a copy of a foreign artist, for me was a unique, rudimentary and morbid escene, mid of 90’s when the underground became accessible, started to change. But still, you can find some jewels there.

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Chile? Are their any new bands that you could recomend to the readers?

Pentagram (old) is twisted and cacophonic but wicked, and weirdly have ver raw folklore roots. Warpath, Atomic Aggressor, Sadism, Melektaus, Dominus Xul, Wrathprayer, Atomicide.

12.When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Wow, is hard, I must work most of the time,

but I do like to speak from people and hear their meanings, sometimes I watch documentaries and from time to time enjoy nature.

13.Besides Thornafire do any of the members currently work with any other bands? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

By now, Cristian Cardenas is playing in a porno grind band called Ñiache, and I`m playing in a Polish black metal band called Secfremist.

14.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final words for the readers?

Yes, keep an eye on the underground scene and support your talented local acts. Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers?

I am Linnea Landstedt, singer and guitarist in the thrash metal band Tyranex. We are from Sweden and I was involved in starting the band already in 2005 and am the only member left since then.

2. When did you first discover speed and thrash metal music and who were the first bands and artists that you listened to? Who are some of the current bands that have caught your attention?

It was in my teenage years that I started listening to heavy metal and it didn't take very long until I found the thrash metal genre. It was mostly Megadeth and Kreator that I listened to, but I got hooked on the European thrash rather than the American and that influenced my early attempts to write heavier songs. A newer band that I noticed a few years ago is Phrenetix who I think are worth mentioning.

3. What is it about these genres that you enjoy so much? Besides speed and thrash metal do you listen to any other metal genres? If yes what are some of your favourite genres and bands?

I like the intensity and sense of youthful anger in thrash. It is energetically exhausting to listen to and to play. It requires precision and stamina and it's damn fun to play thrash metal on guitar. I've always liked playing riffs instead of chords and challenging myself to sing to the riffs. But it doesn't have to be complicated all the way through. It is important that the songs also have good melodies, whether it is in vocals or guitar/bass.

I love Iron Maiden, they remain the greatest for me. I am very influenced by heavy metal when I write songs. Early Tyranex was meant to be a mix of Angel Witch and Sentinel Beast but we quickly moved on to writing harder songs.

4. Tyranex was started in 2005, what gave you all the idea to start this band? How did you choose Tyranex as the name of the band?

Yes, we started Tyranex late that year. Then it was me and a girl named Paloma who started the band. It was she who suggested the name of the band. At that time I was in another band but we played more rock than metal. I had always wanted to play harder music and was looking for others who wanted to do the same, so Tyranex was born. The first line-up did not last long. Paloma was the singer in the beginning but she left the band only after one year and then I started singing instead.

5. What is the current line-up of the band? Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and have they remained the same over the years? For the readers unfamilar with Tyranex's music, how would you best describe it?

I play the guitar and sing, then we have Will Tomao who also plays the guitar. Martin Petersson on bass and Pontus Pettersson-Gull on drums.

We play thrash with elements of speed metal and heavy metal. It goes fast and sounds aggressive. In the beginning we were definitely more influenced by old heavy metal and the first songs were not as hard as the songs we have now. I don't think our influences have changed that much anyway since the beginning but the more songs we have written the more distinct our sound has become. I can't say that the songs on the new album have been inspired by any specific other band or genre. I have mostly sat with the guitar and tried to write good riffs and build a song from there.

6. “Reasons For The Slaughter” is the band’s newest full-length release. How long did it take to the band to write the music for the new release? How long would you say it usually takes to complete one song?

We wrote most of the songs during the summer of 2022 and worked on them in the rehearsal room during the autumn. In the winter of 2023 we started recording the album. However, some of the songs are much older. We had started writing some songs already in 2017 when we had recorded our third album. They sound a bit different now in the end, but the draft of those songs was already there. So some songs have taken several years to complete but most of the new songs are written in a few hours spread over several days. If you have something good going on, it is usually not so difficult to get on with the song.

7. Where does the band draw inspiration for the lyrics? What are some subjects written about on the new release? Which usually comes first, the music or the lyrics?

Music always comes first. During the process I sometimes think about how to organise the song, melody and rhythm. Sometimes I write lyrics long after the music and arrangements are finalised. It depends on how much inspiration I have. The songs have to be aggressive and the vocals have to be aggressive as well. I take inspiration for lyrics from different places, it can be anything from horror films to real events or something I come up with myself that fits in. Reasons for the Slaughter is not a concept album so the lyrics have no connection to each other.

8. Has Tyranex had the chance to play very many live shows over the years? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows? Who are some of your favourite bands to share the stage with?

Yes, we have been playing live since 2006. We have played everything from small local clubs to big festivals around Europe. For a while we went to Finland often and played and before the pandemic we drove down to Germany several weekends in a row to play at local metal clubs. I clearly remember some of the first really big gigs we did at festivals with a big stage. It was a challenge to fill the stage floor which was open and big compared to smaller clubs where you are crowded together on stage. Jalometalli in Finland was such a gig and Metal Assault in Germany. Also the first gigs outside Swedenhave been special. First you tour in your home country and play for family and friends. Then when you build up a small fanbase and get to go to new places and know that people have listened to your music, it's an incredible feeling. We've shared the stage with a lot of great bands, like FKÜ and Armory, who are our close friends.

9. Are there any tours or shows planned in support of “Reasons For The Slaughter”? If yes, where will the band be playing?

Yes, we are working on it. However, there are many good bands releasing records this year that also want to play. Thrash in Sweden has grown bigger in recent years and I think that's great for the future. But it also means that there will be more competition for the gigs. We hope that we can come to new places and countries and play now that we are releasing a new disc. Keep an eye on our social media for upcoming gigs.

10. Besides the “Reasons For The Slaughter” release are the band’s previous releases still available for the readers to purchase? Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available? If yes, what is available and where can the readers purchase it?

Yes we sell our own merch and the previous records on our bandcamp. https://tyranex.bandcamp.com/

11. What does Underground Metal mean to you?

It is a living movement of its own that is so important. Rarely does anyone make money from it, band members, promoters, fanzines and others who help keep it alive. People do it because they love it and want to contribute to the scene in some way. I wish even more people would get involved and make the underground scene grow even more. I am so grateful for all the enthusiastic people we have met over the years, who have listened to our music and helped us with everything from gigs to spreading our music.

12. Tyranex comes out of Sweden's speed and thrash metal scene what is your opinion of Sweden's Metal scene over the years?

When we started the band there were many young thrash bands in Sweden, we had our own little community where everyone knew everyone and shared demos between each other. After a few years there weren't so many bands left but now it's starting to open up for thrash again. There are new bands with young guys doing a great job like Atonement, Sarcator and Eternal Evil. However, I long to see more women playing thrash. It would be incredibly fun.

13. Who are your all-time favourite bands coming out of Sweden? Are there any new bands that you could recommend to the readers?

Difficult question, we have many great bands from Sweden that are already considered legendary. Most of them are already well known. I would rather recommend people to keep their eyes open for the relatively new thrash bands I already mentioned.

14. When dp you need to take a break from working on new music and band business, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Right now I love going to the forest and spending time in nature. Swedish nature is amazingly beautiful and accessible. If you ever come to Sweden, get out to the forest.

15. Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the reader's?

Thank you and thank you for reading this. We are not braggarts but I really think the latest album we made is really good and I hope you take the time to listen to it. Stay metal!
