Paragon Records News about their newest releases

Buckshot Facelift [USA]  - Ulcer Island CD  DeathMetal/Grindcore!!! One of Long Island NY'S best kept secrets and one of it's most extreme , and the first time they have collaborated with Paragon Records! After their brilliant 2014 EP "Living Ghosts Of The North Shore" which is one of my favorite releases of that year, Buckshot strike even harder with their fourth full length!!!  This is yet another proud moment for Paragon records to be working with another great band that has been honing their craft for over 14 years now and a perfect example that their is fresh blood on Long Island with Buckshot Facelift being one of the forerunners!!! This a concept album! The first time the band has ever done one and sees the band taking their style of music to a further realm of maturity, originality, and extremity. To describe their music simple you could say it's Grindcore and maybe this fits with the more earlier material but this is not accurate and short sighted and even more so as the band has evolved over the years into a style that they have created all their own. Expect Hardcore, Power Violence, Death Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore [of course], acoustics, samples, atmospheric moments, and more..., that when it's all said an done you got Buckshot Facelift!!!!! Features members from Artificial Brain, Thaetas, & Grey Skies Fallen!!! Guests vocals by King Fowley of Deceased/October 31!!! DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE BAND TO EXTREME FOR THE METAL ARCHIVES!!!! OUT NOW!!!

Root [Czech Republic] - Madness Of The Graves Vinyl Re-release. The vinyl version will also features the same new cover art as the CD and will also include a patch and poster!!! Vinyl will be 180G and these will be strictly limited to 250 copies so do not miss out!!!! OUT NOW!!! SELECT TRADES ONLY!!!

Root [Czech Republic] Madness Of The Graves CD RE-RELEASE!!! Epic Dark Metal!!!!!
Though that is just a taste of what you will get! What is their really to say about a band like Root???!!! Their really is no one like them, maybe you could compare them to Master's Hammer but only because both bands are just so unique in their craft though neither band follow the same musical path. This is Root's long out of print 7th album that originally saw the light of day on cd in 2003, and later vinyl in 2004. Once again Root take their style further into more darker, creepier, and weirder realms!!! Their are many different elements on this record that only Root can deliver and though i have to say Kargeras [ which we re-released on CD in 2103] is probably still my personal favorite however Madness of The Graves is yet another Milestone in the bands career. So many bands get the phrase "cult" alongside the mention of their name these days however this is truly a band that defines the term!!!Nothing more needs to be said.
FEATURES 4 LIVE BONUS SONGS FROM THE MADNESS OF THE GRAVES ERA!!!

Interview  with  LoathFinder   done  by   Patrick

1.Hello  please  introduce  yourselves  to  the  readers?

Hello everyone. We’re Loathfinder and we play slow and dirty kind of blackened doom.

2.When  did you first  meet the  other  members  of the  band  and was  it  long before you  all  started   Loathfinder? How  did you  all  come  up  with the  name   Loathfinder   as the  name of the  band?

We met about two years ago and started forming band who after all has been named Loathfinder. During that time we were focused on writing material, polishing it and then recording it. The effects of our work can be heard on our first EP. At the very beginning we have been focused on music only but when it came up to choosing a name we considered two or three options to name ourselves. When one of us said “Loathfinder” we unanimously agreed that this is what fits best to what we play and what our lyrics are about.

3.What  is  the  current  line up  for  the  band?Who  are  some  of the  bands  biggest  influences  and for the readers  who  have  never  heard the  bands  music  how  would  you  best  describe  it?

From the beginning there were four of us - four people who were influenced by different bands, but for sure we all appreciate Cough, YOB, Coffinworm, Urfaust, Pallbearer…
Band’s sound - whatever you say - always results from inspirations, but it’s up to you how you combine and mix those. Sometimes it’s even surprising when in reviews of EP which we have already received people compare our sound to the bands which we have never listened to.

4.Loathfinder   is  getting  ready to  release  the  debut Mcd "The  Great Tired Ones" how  long  did  it take  the  band to  write the  music  for  this  release?

It actually took us more time than we’ve expected and much more to record than to compose it but to be honest it was comfortable to work on it without unnecessary rush. The final effect is even beyond our first assumptions. At the beginning we’ve planned the material to be more demo-like, self-released in the Internet only. We got opportunity to make it more professional, so we took advantage of it.

5.Who  usually  takes  care  of  writing the  lyrics for the  music  and  what  are some topics  the  band  writes  about?

All lyrics are written by a guy who is screaming and spitting them out. Topics falls under an umbrella of negativity, but it’s not casual “feeling-bad” thing. It’s difficult to say more without literal explaining and we would suggest to hear or read lyrics and try to feel it by yourself.

6.Besides  the  debut Mcd   "The  Great Tired Ones"  does the  band  have  any  other  merchandise  available  for the  readers? If  yes  what  is  available  and  where can  the readers  buy  it?

At the moment EP is the only merchandise we have available. There are other things being prepared, but as we have nothing confirmed yet we will not reveal any details. Follow our Facebook page in order to keep up to date with the news to come.

7.Does   Loathfinder   play live  very  often  or do you  prefer working  in  the studio? Are their  any  upcoming  shows  or  small  tours the readers  should  watch  out  for?

We have decided not to play live until our material is finalized and recorded. For now we have one gig scheduled and it will take place on May 6th in Kraków, Poland. We are working on other dates, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

8. Loathfinder   comes  out  of  Poland's blackend  doom  metal  scene  what  is your  opinion  of   the  metal  scene  in  Poland  these  days?

Polish metal scene is strong for a long time and it seems it will be strong for years to come. First, and the most important thing, is that we have a big number of great bands. There are plenty of surroundings related to music, like journals, radio auditions, gigs. The only thing which is missing is a big metal festival, like for instance Brutal Assault. There were some attempts, but nothing really worked out.

9.Who  are your  all-time  favorite  Polish  bands  and  are  their  any  new  bands  you  feel  the readers  should  watch  out  for?

It would be probably a long list but just to give you only couple of them as an example: Kobong, Furia, Death Like Mass, Ampacity, Odraza, Kriegsmaschine, Sui Generis Umbra, Doombringer, Hetzer, Stillborn, Witchmaster… Huge lost is that some of them are not active anymore. Trying to recall something “fresh” seems to be quite hard.

10.Besides  working  in  Loathfinder   do  any  of the  members  currently  play  in  any  other  bands  or  solo  projects?

Yeah, each of us does something beside Loathfinder (other bands as well as solo projects) but we treat this band as priority and we focus mainly on this band right now.

11.When  not  working  on  new  music  or  band  business  what  do you  like to  do  in your  free time?

Let’s just skip it. We don’t think it could be interesting enough for anybody… especially when at the end of the day it’s almost always all about music even if not in direct way.

12.Thank  you  for  taking the  time to  fill this   interview  out  do  you  have  any  final  words  for the  readers?

If you got to this point, probably you have already listened to our music - if so, there is nothing else to add which would be more important than that. Hails.

Interview   with  Pedra   vocalist  of  Grog  done  by   Patrick

1.Hello Pedra  please  introduce  yourself to  the  readers   and  at  what  age  did you  discover  metal  music?

Hi Patrick, first up thanks a lot for giving us the chance to promote Grog and our new album "Ablutionary Rituals".
I am the band vocalist since its origin and we started in 1991 so it has been a long ride till today. We are from Portugal and play what you could say death grind.
My path into metal begun 31 years ago, yes I am that old, so I was a teenager with 16 years old eager to discover the music of my life.

2.Who  were  some  of  the first  bands  you   listened  to  and  who  are  some  of your  current  favorite  bands?

Well I started with some hard rock bands back then like AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Europe, Motley Crue but with time I went on discovering Iron Maiden, Wasp and Motorhead
for example. In the 80's we had a lot of metal radio shows so as I discovered then I begun listening speed, thrash, black, grindcore and death metal bands form that  time. Many of them still currently exist so it's easy for me to say that I went down to the bottom of almost everything heavy metal had to offer. Nowadays I still love to hear the classics from that time like Immolation, Suffocation, Napalm Death, Autopsy, Agathocles, Deranged, Sinister, Avulsed but also new bands like
Benighted, Unfathomable Ruination, Defeated Sanity, Wormed and so on...

3.Grog  was  formed  back  in  1991   what  gave you  all  the  idea  to  start  this  band? What  is  the  current  line up  of  the  band?

The idea came from a group of friends that were also into metal and punk actually. There's always that time that you want to learn how to play and create your own  music I guess so we talked and decided to try our shot at doing our own musical vision. I never thought I would be involved in it to be honest but here I am after 26  years as the only active founding member. The current line-up is pretty solid since many years and along with me we have Ivo on guitar, Rolando playing drums and Alex  filling the bass.

4.How  would you  say  Grog's  music  has  changed  over  the years  and  who  are  some  of the  bands  that  influenced  Grog's  sound?

When we started we were more into grindcore but then we begun to include death metal influences and from that moment till the present we still do it. We try to evolve  and reach new ideas and levels of intensity within our sound every time we work on a new release. This is what motivates us to keep on going since we don't want to  sound the same every time we release a new record. The first two albums we released have different line ups so naturally they sound different. There a lot of ideas
that belong to the previous members that define the style of music we did. After those releases we managed to stabilize the line up and begun to grow more as a  collective and each time we work in new ideas we try to surpass the previous ones never the less we are able to sound like Grog and have our own identity as a band.   The influences are obvious I think since death metal and grindcore have their icons very well defined still we aren't interested on copy then but instead creating our  own music so if you wanna relate us with the bands I spoke before it's ok for us.

5.Grog   is  getting  ready to  release  their  fourth  full-length  "Ablutionary  Rituals" how  long  did it take  the  band to  write  the  music for  the  new   songs? Does  the  whole  band  work on the  music  or does  one  member  usually  write  everything?

The new album took us 4 years to write and we work as team though the songs are brought mostly by Ivo and Alex. When the ideas are presented to the rest of the band  myself and Rolando give our contribution and then we decide if it's a clean go or if we improve or remove what doesn't make sense.

6.Who   usually  takes  care  of  writing the  lyrics  and  what  are  some  topics you  all wrote  about  on the  new  release?

I handle all lyrics in the band since ever. The new album reaches a new approach on the theme we always explored which is the dark side of the human mind. The main  difference within "Ablutionary Rituals" was that we begun to focus on the personal aspects related with the human shadow instead of dwelling on the external  deviations and sickness/gore of the behavior itself. On this record we try to explain the origin of human darkness, why does it exists, what influences have for us  and what are the possible lessons that we can take from its presence in our soul, body and ethereal dimensions.

7.Besides  the  new  release  "Ablutionary  Rituals"  are  any  of the  bands  past  releases  still  available  for the  readers  to  buy? Besides  the  releases   does the  band  have  any  other  merchandise  available  and  if yes  what  is  available and  where can the readers  buy  it?

We have all our releases available for digital download at our bandcamp but the older ones are if not almost sold out. Concerning merch we have new items available  for the new album. I advise all to check us up at our bandcamp and facebook pages to get more information. I leave you the addresses grogpt.bandcamp.com/ and  facebook.com/grogpt/.

8.As  mentioned  Grog  has  been  active  in  the  scene  since  the early  90's  what  have  been  the  bands  most  memorable  shows  over the  years  and  who  have  been  some  of  the  bands you  have  shared  the  stage  with?

Quiet difficult to answer that one you know since all gigs are different and have their own kind of magic. Also as you can image we played a great amount of shows  since we started so I consider all shows important even the one that weren't so great at the end. We played with almost Portuguese bands like Decayed, Holocausto  Canibal, Analepsy, Raw Decimating Brutality and so on like we also shared stage with Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, Broken Hope, Disgorge, Suffocation, Avulsed,
Sinister, Dead Infection, Benighted for instance.

9.Are  their  any  upcoming  shows  or  tours  in  support  of the  new  release? If  yes  where  will the  band  be  playing?

We are booking some shows mainly for Portugal and we also have a gig in Austria this year.

10.Pedra  you  and the  band  have  been  active  in the  underground  since the early  90's   were you  ever  into  tape-trading  back  then?

Sure I did a lot of tape trading back in the days and I still keep all letters with me. It's like the 80's/90's underground milestone and I have the most special  memories from those days when you had to handwrite every single letter you received. I knew a lot of people and bands that way and also the feeling of receiving mail   at home was tremendously exciting.

11.Besides  tape trading  did you  read  a lot  of  fanzines  back  in the  day  what  were  some  of your  favorite  fanzines to  read? In your  eyes  what  made  a   good fanzine?

I was a teen back then so there wasn't much income to buy zines but we shared a lot information between friends and along that came the fanzines especially Portuguese  ones. For a young kid finding new bands was enough so all fanzines mattered because I would devour them letter by letter.

12.Grog  comes  out  of  Portugal's  death  metal  scene   what  is your  opinion  of  the  metal  scene  in  Portugal  over  the  years?

We have evolved a lot. Today we have a healthy scene in all genres and I should say that Portuguese bands aren't inferior to the rest of bands in the world.

13.Who  are your  all time  favorite  bands  from  Portugal? And  are their  any  new  bands  coming  out  of  Portugal   that you  feel  the  readers  should  check   out  soon?

Decayed, Evisceration, Desire, Thormenthor, Namek, Sacred Sin for example on the oldschool side. New ones I should recomend Switchtense, Vai-te Foder, Analepsy,  Grunt...

14.Besides  bands  are  their  any  honest  and reliable  labels  or  distro's  you  can  recommend  to  the  readers?

Yes, absolutely, we have Helldprod Records, Altare Productions, Raging Planet, Chaosphere Records, Signal Rex, Caverna Abismal, Vomit Your Shirt, Larvae Productions,  Lusitania, Rastilho among others.

15.What  does  underground   metal  mean  to  you?

Underground is not being mainstream, this is the easiest way to explain it. Underground has a lot of DIY attitude and fuck the rest although you can find also some examples in major music industry but in a completely different approach.

16.When  not   working  on  new   music  or  band  business   what  do you  enjoy  doing  in  your  free  time?

Play with my kid, to rest, being with friends, going to shows...

17.Thank  you   Pedra  for  taking the  time  to  fill  this   interview  out  do you  have  any  final  comments  for the  readers before  we  end  this   interview?

Thanks once again for your support Patrick and to all your readers check us out in grogpt.bandcamp.com/ and facebook.com/grogpt/. Grind Up!

Interview  with  Obscura   Amentia   done  by  Patrick

1.Hails  Hel and  Black Charm  please  introduce  yourselves to the  readers? When  did you  two  first  meet  each  other?

Hail Patrick! First of all thanks for the interview, we met more than ten years ago and a day we decided to try to write a song; the result was our 1st album "The Darkest Dream". Hel is a female screamer, fan of all the extreme scene and of the Doom atmospheres; Black Charm is a multi-instrumentalist that loves the Depressive and the Avantgarde scene, the Death Metal and all the good music also over the Metal.

2.When  did you  two  get the  idea  to  start Obscura   Amentia   ?And  how  did you  all choose  the  name  Obscura   Amentia   does  it  have  a special  meaning?

The project began after some sessions, the first ideas were a bit confused but we have always been interested to the human pain. "Obscura Amentia" for us is the seed of evil, the madness that lurks inside every human being, one of our human instincts.

3.Black Charm  you  take  care  of  writing the  music for the band  when  did you  become interested  in  writing  and  playing  music?

Since adolescence, I've always been fascinated by the world of music and by the way in which it can express themselves, therefore, immediately after learning to play the guitar, my first instrument, I started writing some songs (like all musicians, I think) and after several years and as many collaborations, I'm joined to this project.

4.What  instruments  do  you  play  and  are their  any  new  instruments you  would  like to  learn  one  day?

Guitar, bass and sometimes the keyboard. I'm currently very interested in some Asian stringed instruments, but unfortunately I have not yet managed to try them, maybe in the future I will be able to use them in some music tracks.

5.Hel  you  handle  the  vocals  for the  band  when  did you  start   singing  and  screaming?Do  you  do  anything  special  to  keep your  voice  and  throat  healthy?

I start to sing with clean vocals several years ago in a heavy metal band, over time I learned how to modulate my voice to sing in scream. About the healthy of my voice I do not do anything particularly special, I regularly practice sports and yoga to improve breathing.

6.Who  are  some  of your influences and favorite  vocalists?

Some of the vocalists that I like very much are Jennie-Ann Smith from Avatarium, Selvans Haruspex from Selvans, Jake Superchi from Uada and Daevas from Secrets Of The Moon but I'm influenced by no one.

7.Obscura   Amentia   is  getting  ready to  release  their  third  cd   "The Art Of The Human Decadence" How  long  did  it take  you  Black  Charm  to  write  the  music  for this  release? And for the readers  who  have  never heard  Obscura   Amentia's music  how would you  say  it  has  changed  over the years?

It took about 3 years to write the music for it, also due to some unforeseen breaks, hoping to be more fast the next time. What is changed? We are consolidating into our sound the influences Depressive and Doom at our Atmospheric Black Metal. At first our sound was a kind of Raw Atmospheric Black Metal.

8.Hel   I  know  you  also  take  care  of  writing  the  lyrics  what were  some  of the  subjects  you  wrote  about   on "The Art Of The Human Decadence"?

The release tells about the illness of a tired mankind suffering the pains given birth to the modern era and the decadence generate from the progress which deprives the human being from all emotions except that anguish.

9.Obscura   Amentia   comes  out  of the  Italian  black, doom  metal  scene   what  is  your  opinion  of  the  metal scene  in  Italy  these days?

Obviously in this internet era everything is very different from the past: lately there are many interesting musical proposals and it’s true that a new band can introduce their music to a huge audience, but we think that compared to the past, the scene, and more specifically the underground, is not supported properly and is slowly dying; currently it’s difficult to speak about a real scene.

10.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  Italian  bands? Are their  any  new  bands you  feel  the readers  should  check  out   soon?

Novembre... new bands? We're not dated enough to be able to give such advice.

11.I  know that  Obscura   Amentia   is  a  two  person  band  would  you  like to  add  more  members  to  make  a  full  band  or  do you  prefer  to  work  as  a two  person  band?

We prefer to work like now: it's more personal, intense, like a ritual.

12.Besides  working  in  Obscura   Amentia   do  either  of you  work  with  any  other  bands  or  solo  projects?

Currently we're totally focused only on Obscura Amentia; it's more of a project, it's almost a comparison with our more hidden side.

13.When  not  working  on   new  music  or  band  business what  do you  enjoy  doing  in your  free  time?

Literature, art and science, and, whenever it’s possible, we try to get away from the town to spend some time in nature.
