Interview  with    Indesiderium   done  by    Patrick

1.Hello    how  is  life  going  in  California  these days? Please  introduce yourselfs  to  the  readers?

Greetings, I am Atrum of Indesiderium.  I write the music and lyrics as well as perform all vocals and instruments.  Mattias performs all battery and percussion.  As for life in California, I am ready to relocate.  I have been here my whole life, and I have overstayed my welcome.  Mattias has already secured property in the mountains of Oregon; it is only a short time till I too relocate to the mountains.

2.When  did you  first  get  into  metal   music? Who  were  some  of the  first  bands  you   listened to? Who  are  some  of your  current  favorites?

I have been into metal since I was very young.  Started with 80’s albums like Maidens “Number of the Beast,” King Diamond in particular.  I am glad to be old enough to have witnessed the early 90’s black metal movement.  Nothing today captures the magic of those early days of black metal.  So needless to say, my first black metal bands were the obvious Scandinavian hordes, and some early USBM.  Beherit’s “Drawing down the moon” and Impaled Nazarene’s “Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz” were the first black metal albums I ever bought right when they were released.  I have a formidable collection of first press albums from those early days.  As of recently, I have been listening to some devastating war metal from bands such as Ritual Genocide and Defecrator.  I am currently awaiting the debut release from my comrades in UADA “Devoid of Light,” they are an absolute killer horde from the Pacific Northwest.

3.You  formed  Indesiderium     in  2012   what  gave  you  the  idea  to  form  this  band/project?How  did  you  come  up  with  the  name  of the  band?

The band I had been previously been associated with had been plagued with issues and drama since the beginning.  After a few years, it became apparent that I would need to move on eventually.  The hymns on the Wanderer of the Abyssal Plains album were written very long ago.  I have always wanted to use the material, but I never found a band worthy enough to sacrifice them for.  Especially when things go sour, the band keeps your contributions as their own.  Indesiderium has long been in my heart, like a leviathan lurking in the crushing depths of the abyss.  This analogy sums up the entire concept of the name as well.

4.I  believe this  is  a  two man  band  but   have  you  ever  thought  of  trying to  add  more  members  for  a  full band ?

Indesiderium does indeed consist of two members.  This is how we intend to keep the core our legion.  However, I have an infernal line-up ready for the upcoming live rituals.  Demons of the highest order.

5.If  you   had the  opportunity  to  work  with  any  musicians who  are  some  musicians{past  or  present}  you  would  like  to  work  with?

Jon from Dissection is the first to come to mind.  But that is probably it.  I would rather work alone.

6.Indesiderium  just  released  their  debut  cd  "Wanderer  Of   The  Abysmal  Plains"   how  long  did  it   take  to  write  and  record  the  songs  for  this release?

There was a lot of blood and pain put forth into summoning this opus.  I wrote in pure solitude.  It was rehearsed and recorded at our mountain fortress, far away from the plague of humanity.

7.Where  do  you  draw   inspiration   for  the   lyrics  on   "Wanderer Of  The  Abysmal  Plains"?

The inspiration for the lyrics comes from personal experience.  The torment of the human psyche.  I draw inspiration from the inherent evil that is in all of mankind.  What one would call Satan, Lucifer, Belial, the Devil…what every path you choose, it all begins within the very nucleus of your being.  Human consciousness is as vast and lightless as any void imaginable.  It is the void of all voids, and it is a realm where demons dwell.

8.Besides  the  debut   cd   "Wanderer Of  The  Abysmal  Plains"   is  their   any  other   merchandise  available  for  the  fans? If  yes  where  can  the  fans  buy  it?

There are several excellent sources online to obtain the album.  The True Plague distro  (Thetrueplague.com) as well as many other quality underground distros and record shops also carry it.  Shirts are in progress, and the new album is currently being forged.

9.Atrum  Abbas   I  believe  you told  me  that  you  are  working  on  new  music  for the  next release  will  it  be  a  full-length  or  have you  all decided? How   would  you  say the  new  music  is  different  from  the  first  release?

Yes, the new album is about half written thus far.  It is planned to have a total of six tracks, as of now there are three tracks complete.  The music is similar in that there is a fine balance of aggression and atmosphere, but it will different in that the recording will by of a higher quality.  Not overly polished, but not too garage sounding either…in other words, you will be able to make out the instruments.

10.What  does  black  metal  mean  to  you?

Black metal is very personal to me.  It means everything to me.  This is why I cannot stand to see it defaced or disrespected the way it does today.  Nothing is taken seriously anymore, everything is joke these days.  There was a time when black metal was about absolute intolerance.  Nowadays, its all about piece and love and accepting everyone and everything.  Fuck that.  Black metal should be evil and dangerous.  It should be ugly and offensive.  Call me an elitist, in this modern day of poser hipster black metal, I am proud separate from the herd.

11.Atrum  Abbas   you   handle  the  vocals  for  the  band  when  did you  start  singing/screaming? Is their   anything you  do  special to   keep your  throat/voice  healthy?Who  are  some  of your  favorite  vocalists?

This is the first recording where I performed the primary vocals.  I have always performed back-up vocals in bands I have performed in.  As for keeping my voice healthy, I don’t.  I just conjure whatever malice I have inside and transcend into another realm.  I do not have a specific favorite in regards to vocalists.

12.Besides  taking  care   of the  vocals  you   also  play  the  guitars  for the  band. When  did you  get  interested in   playing  the  guitars? Are  you   self taught   or  did you  take  lessons  when  first  starting  out?

I have been playing guitar for approximately twenty years.  I took lessons to learn the basics when I was young, but not for long.  I am self-taught there after.

13.Who   are  some  of your  influences/favorite  guitarists? Besides  playing the bass and  guitars   are their  any other  instruments  you    play?

Guitar inspiration ranges from genre to genre.  Everything from classical nylon to black metal obviously.  I enjoy playing drums, but I am not nearly efficient enough to perform in a band.

14.When  not  writing  music   what  are  some  of your   interests/hobbies?

I am a devoted student of the human mind.  I write and research on everything from consciousness, mental disorders, and neurobiology.  The realms of science and occultism have more in common than most would imagine.  The parallels are uncanny.

15.Thank  you       for   taking  the  time  to   fill  this   interview   out  do you   have  any  final  comments  for  the  readers?

Indesiderium’s “Wanderer of the Abyssal Plains” is out.  The upcoming opus will lay waste to the land. 666

Interview   with  Andreas   guitarist   of  Immensity    done  by     Patrick

1.Hello  Andreas   how  are  things  going  with you  and  the  band  these  days? Please  introduce yourself to  the  readers?

Hello everyone!  thank you for giving me this opportunity to express myself and not just only ! Not   much  to say about myself ! 34 years of age, born on an island in Greece called "Evvoia" from Italian mother and Greek father . Started  to listen and get into to metal music at the age of 15!

2.At  what  age  did you  become  interested  in  playing  the  guitars? Are   you  self taught  or did you  take  lessons  when  first  starting  out?

I attend classes for a few months at the age of 18. But It seemed that I just could not listen to “their” rules,  no one to tell me how and what to do suited me  better,  so I followed my instinct and inner voice along with some vital knowledge in the end.

3. Who  are  some  of your   influences and  favorite  guitarists? Besides the  guitars  do  you  play  any  other   instruments?

Just like many youngsters back then..Metallica ! Also my first attempt  to play "one" or "harvester of sorrow" Oh i was crazy about  Joe Satriani and that's about it. I like playing some piano and synth though.

4.When  did you  first   meet the  other  members  of   the  band? Was  it  long  before you  all decided to  form   Immensity ?

Well it was around late 2010 when i met Leonidas, after a few hours of discussion I understood that this man was on the same page and purpose for what I had in mind musically. The name came after my return from Canada  after of two years of working abroad to earn my living.

5.What  is  the  current  line-up  of  Immensity  and  for the  readers who  have  never  heard    Immensity's  music  how would you  best  describe  it?

Myself  Andreas Kelekis on Guitars / Synth, Leonidas Hatzimihalis on Vocals (clean and brutal), Yiannis Filippaios on Drums, George Kritharis on Bass though currently he's living  far way from Athens . And worth mentioning  a Remarkable  friend of ours  helps  us out as session  with gigs and other needs! Referring to Nikolas Loukopoulos on Bass of course. Chris Markopoulos on Guitars and last but least Nora Koutsouri on Keyboards / Synth.

How I would describe Immensity’s music ?  I’d say  “A sea of numerous moods and emotions“

6.  Immensity   has  signed  to  hypnotic  Dirge  how  did you  all  come  in  contact  with this  great  label?

During the time we were seeking for a label I Just send them a letter along with cd with Album recordings and to make long story short they liked what they heard and sooner  than we could imagine we sealed an agreement. One of the best moves we ever made was surely contacting with Hypnotic dirge.

7.The  new  cd  "The  Isolation  Splendor"  will  be  available  soon  how  long did  it take to  write the  music for this  release? Does  the  whole  band  take  part  in  the  writing  process  or  does  one  member  usually  write  everything?

70% are at least 8 years old material was based on my own ideas. The bandmates helped me a lot to finish the other 30% and the outcome was this wonderful album. For me it is truly  a redemption after so much hard work.

8.Besides  working  in    Immensity   do  any  of the  members  currently  play   in  any  other  bands  or  solo  projects?

Yes of course, our drummer  is playing in a well known band called "Daylight Misery" and also conducts his own amazing band called DECEMBERANCE  in the style of Extreme Doom Death Metal and is in fact One of the oldest bands in Greece.  Also Nikolas Loukopoulos  and Chris Markopoulos are hereby part of DECEMBERANCE as well.
Just about all members were and are in different projects, but mainly , we are focused on Immensity’s  Music which always comes first .

9.  Immensity   comes   out  of  the  Greeek  death, doom  scene  what  is  the  metal  scene like  in  Greece?

I think  in total we  barely reach a handful speaking  strictly  Doom, Death , not much indeed but hopefully increasing  through time .

10. Who  are  some  of your  all-time  favorite  greek  bands? Are their  any   new  bands  you  feel  the readers  should  watch  out  for?

Oh.. SEPTICFLESH, ROTTING CHRIST, EXHUMATION, ON THORNS I LAY...
Concerning  new-ones i would  say SUICIDAL ANGELS, TARDIVE DYSKINESIA, UNIVERSE 217, SHATTERED HOPE

11.Besides  the   new  release "The  Isolation  Splendor"  does  the  band   have   any  other   merchandise   available  for the  readers if  yes  where  can  the  fans  buy  it ?

We are working on this as we speak and planning  to have a full package soon,  we will  surely make some announcements about that.

12.Thank  you   Andreas   for  taking the  time  to  fill  this  interview  out  do you   have  any  final  words  for the  readers?

It was a great pleasure Patrick,
I just want to say : Never give up your dreams , your goals or anything else you want to do in life.  Cheers all , Hope you enjoy the album  !

Available From Paragon Records [USA]

Both release below available from Paragon Records [USA]  www.paragonrecords.org

Aetherius Obscuritas [Hungary] MMXV  CD. This band should be no stranger to those who have followed Paragon Records for some years now. This being the bands 7th full length overall and their fourth with us. Once again Aetherius Obscuritas stays true to the Black Metal they wish to express and their influences of Taake, Ragnarok [NORWAY], and old Dissection are still very present. However as usual they make it their own and truly have a sound that really is unique within the Black Metal genre and though they still remain very straight forward the band has added even more atmospheric elements around this time and prove yet again they are truly one of the most underrated Black Metal bands of today!!!! OUT NOW!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN5zCdZWxYg

Fornace [Italy] - My Journey Is Ending But The Torment Will Be Eternal CD. This is the second full length from the band and the band has gone through some line-up changes again which sees the band going in a more straight forward Black Metal direction with little to no death metal elements present. This still evokes their great riffing, nice bass work, and also their raw drumming. However vocal duties have been taken over by Possessed who still handles the bass as well and remains the core and heart of the band! His approach is raw, very extreme and personal. This along with the excellent raw organic production evokes the Fornace we know but through a much more darker and deadlier realm!!! OUT NOW!!!!

Interview   with  Bustum    done  by    Patrick

1. You all formed Bustum in 2001 what gave you all the idea to start this band? How did you all come up with the name of the band and does it have a special meaning?

Bustum in total is project/idea/band of a Demoniac. He formed the band, wrote all the songs, done literary everything around the band. He tried to find some obscure name in latin back than and he find Bustum. Since this days we kept that name.

2. What is the current line-up of Bustum? For the readers who have never heard Bustum's music how would you best describe it?

Current line-up is Demoniac on guitars, bass and back vocal and me (Nicor) on lead vocals and drums. This line-up is in charge for almost 5 years now. It is cold black metal from Balkan with blasting drums, harsh vocals, fast melodies and crushing riffs.

3. Iron County Prod. is getting ready to re-release your debut "Demonolosophy" on cassette how did you all come in contact with this label?

First, I asked Nuno from Caverna Abismal Records does he want to release our album on tape, but he told me that he can’t but knows guy from Hungary who will love to release our full-lenght on tape format and gave me contact of Balazs. I get in touch with Balazs and he accepted to release tape on first. I have only good words for his work. From start of that idea about our tape he always push it forth with ideas and suggestions. Really good and highly professional fella.

4. Besides the re-release of "Demonolosophy" has the band started writing music for the next release? Do you all know yet will it be a full-length or an EP?

Beside re-release of an album on tape we also working on one re-release that we will uncover soon, with some bonus songs.  About new material... between me and Demoniac currently stands around 1700 miles, ’cause he’s currently in Ireland. But we had some talks about material and maybe soon we’ll unveil some ideas for a new single or two or three songs. We’ll see, I don’t know now for sure.

5. Does the whole band take part in the writing process of the music or does one member usually write everything?

I came in the band on „all is ready“ situation. Demoniac made it all. He made it all and   wrapped it on his wish, only Piper (drummer of croatian band War-Head) made drum tracks for songs.

6. Who usually takes care of the lyrics what are some subjects the band writes about?

Demoniac made  all of them. But we have some new lyrics from me, for possibly new songs that we’ll made.  Lyrics of Bustum talking about darkness in human and all evil that can be born and produced by men/women. Human is the bigger evil than Satan himself.

7. Besides the new re-release of the debut does the band have any other releases or merchandise available for the readers? If yes where can the fans buy it from?

We have our album (Regimental rec. version) stil available in small amount, soon we’ll have tapes. One new re-release with bonus songs will be announced soon so stay tuned. All information, orders and questions about band you can find on: https://www.facebook.com/BustumOfficial/ or bustum.666@gmail.com .  We also thinking about to release new t-shirt design for order.

8. Bustum comes out of Croatia's black metal scene what is the black, death metal scene like in Croatia?

I really don’t know, I don’t follow croatian metal scene. There was in past few really good bands from Croatia; bands like: Castrum, Unholy Inquisition, Nekrist, Prognan, Gorthaur’s Wrath, Neldoreth, Deaf Auditorium.

9. Who are some of your all-time favorite Croatian bands? Are their any new bands coming out of Croatia that you feel the readers should watch out for?

I don’t have all-time favourite band(s), but I will give you my  top 5 materials from Croatian scene: 1. Unholy Inquisition - Depraved God's Creation (masterpiece of a demo material made in 2004) 2. Deaf Auditorium - Season of Evil (Full-lenght from (I think?) 2002, black-death metal with high screams and grawl vocals, great!) 3. Castrum - Black Silhouette Enfolded in Sunrise (Full-lenght from 1998 and it is brilliant vampiric black metal) 4. Nekrist – Slava Satan (demo material from 2007, killer demo, check it out!) 5. Dr. Steel - Čekam na Noć (Great heavy metal album from 1986) Check out bands Kult Perunov and Black Cult. Two bands made of black metal  veterans from Rijeka city.

10. Does Bustum get to play live very often or do you all prefer to work in the studio? What have been some of your most memorable shows to date?

Last five years band is not active on live performances. Bustum made some good shows over Croatia in the past (from Demoniac’s stories). If we continue to work further, we’ll probably firstly be active in studio only, than later to think about live gigs. 11. Are their any tours or shows coming up that the fans should watch out

11. Are their any tours or shows coming up that the fans should watch out for? Where are some places the band will be playing?

Nothing for now. But who know what future holds for us. We have calls to take place on stage, but due our distance problem that is impossible for now.

12. Other then working in the band Bustum do any of the members currently work with any other bands? If yes please tell the readers about them.

Not at the moment. We both have too many obligations on our day-time jobs.

13.What does black metal mean to you?

Black metal is pure art of violence and freedom of emotions mixed in audio and visual attack... nothing beside that. Black metal always must be intolerant and offensive.

Interview with Rimfrost done by Patrick done on 3-9-16

Here  is  a  new  interview  with  Sweden's  Rimfrost   talking  about  their  third  self-titled  cd  and  the  bands  past  and  future  plans. If you  enjoy  Swedish black  metal   then  defintly  check this  band   out  today.
Patrick

Interview   with  Rimfrost   done  by    Patrick

1.Hails!  when  did you  first  meet  the   other members  of  the  band? Was  it  long  before you  all  formed   Rimfrost ?

Hravn:I met Throllv in school in 2002. We started talking music between classes and one thing led to another. We all grew up in  a small town so we always knew who the other guys in the band were before we started the band. I got to know B.C a couple of years later, in 2007.
I met him through my ex-girlfriend and her friend.

2.How  did you  all  choose  the name   Rimfrost    for the  band?Does  it  have  a  special  meaning? What  is the  current   line-up  of   Rimfrost?

Hravn: We wanted a name that was cold and grim, as our music. Rimfrost is an old Norse name and means "frost". The current line-up is me on guitar and vocals,
Throllv on drums and B.C on bass.

3.  Rimfrost     was  formed   in  2002   how  do you  feel  the bands  music  has  changed   over the  years? Who  are  some  of the bands  biggest  influences?

Hravn: As we got better and more techniqual at our instruments the urge of creating more intense music grew. Naturally for a couple of young guys. We wanted to create
fast and heavy black metal, still with the melodic parts in it. After Veraldar Nagli we eased down a couple of notches, and returned to our basics (the style we
had going on the demo and debut album). We realised good music for us is more to the heavy metal way, and now we let that colour the sound more than before. Black Metal
in my opinion needs new fresh blood. If I want to listen to the old school black metal I love, I listen to the old school black metal bands. Simplicity in its purest
form. I don´t have needs to check out all the same sounding black metal bands out there. Sometimes it can pop up one or two good bands, but I often realise that the
record was recorded in the 80`s or 90`s. Hahaha!

4. Rimfrost   is  getting  ready to  release  the  third  full length   " Rimfrost" how  long  did  it  take  to  write  the  music  for  the  new  release?Does  the  whole  band  take  part  in the  writing process or does  one  member   usually  write everything?

Hravn: Ohh, I think we used riffs and ideas since at least five years back! It sure was a good process though, like a fine whiskey. Haha! Well, the writing is and has always been
my and Throllv´s part. We compose evereything together. Often we meet up in our rehearsal and starts jamming and the magic appears. Our bass player had some ideas with
lyrics for this album aswell. He didn´t participate with the music writing, but his thoughts of arrangement still counts to 100 percent!

5.Besides  the  new  self-titled  cd  does the  band  have  any  previous  releases  or merchandise   available  for  the  fans?  If  yes  where  can  the  readers  buy  it  from?

Hravn: We have some "A Frozen World Unknown" t-shirts still available. If you are interested in one please drop an order to: Rimfrost_Metal@hotmail.com

Throllv: The previous releases can be ordered at record stores.

6.Does   Rimfrost   get  to  play  "live"  very  often  or do you  prefer working  in  the  studio? What  have  been  some  of your   most   memorable  shows to  date?

Hravn: We are getting there more and more. Unfortunately we haven´t been so active with releases or live gigs, but that is changing now! We have some gigs planned
this year already and more to come! I am a sucker for Germany. Love Germans and their visions in metal music. You play for them and they show their appriciation. Enough said. Haha!

7.Are their  any  tours  or  shows  coming  up  that  the  readers  should   watch  out for?

Hravn: Please check our official Facebook for dates and venues, things happen very quickly.

8.What  does  black  metal   mean  to  you?

Hravn: A creative form of unleashing your inner dark. With that said I don´t refer to any kind of religion. I consider my self as an atheist (if I
necessarily need to say I am anything). I enjoy my life
and I do what I want. I was born as a free human being, both in mind and physically. And I intend to keep it that way.
The music is nowadays wide, which is a good thing. But as I said before, I really enjoy the early bands in the scene. Bathory is my all time favorite, to me
that band has it all. Darkthrone is another bad ass band and I enjoy the Norse influences in Black Metal. The roots always interest you, doesn´t it?

9. Rimfrost   comes  out  of  the   mighty   Swedish  black  metal  scene What  is  your  opinion  of  Sweden's  black  metal  scene  over the  years?

Hravn: I actually like the fact that Swedens Black Metal bands are starting to claim the scene more. Norway has a really great and impressive BM culture, with
almost all the big acts coming from there. In my opinion the whole thing started with Bathory and Venom (of course there is always an die hard butt out there who
would correct me now, hahaha!) and we need to get back on the map, more and faster and harder. The difference between Swedish BM and Norwegian is that Swedes intend
to overdo everything. Norwegians stick to the simplicity and grim (at least they did back then). The Swedish Death Metal wave killed of all the potential good upcoming BM bands from here.

10.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  Swedish  bands? Are  their  any   new  bands  you  feel  the  readers  should  watch  out  for?

Hravn: Bathory. We have Sorhin aswell as Dark Funeral (their first records are incredible). Watain is a strong machinery.

Throllv: And of course Dissection.

11.Besides   bands  are their  any  good  labels/distro's  you  feel the  readers  should  watch  out  for?

Hravn: I must take this oppurtunity and give Non Serviam Records a big salute. It is really rare finding that kind of dedication from a label nowadays!
Otherwise I´m quite boring and have no clue what´s on the map nowadays. I prefer to sit and stare at the wall. Hahaha!

12.When  not   working  on  new  music  or  band  business  what  do you  all  enjoy doing  in your   spare  time?

Hravn: Lifting wheights is one of my passions aswell as enjoying movies. My family, the classic answer. Hahaha! I will, as soon as my economy allows, get a motorcycle
license and do what I always dreamed of, riding a black chopper against the sunsetting horizon, listening to some Creedence Clearwater Revival. More metal than that?
I don´t think so... Hahahahaha!

13.Thank  you  all for  taking  the  time  to  fill this  interview  out  do  you   have  any  final  words  for  the  readers?

Hravn: Thank you for having us man! Yes, I have; if Rimfrost play a gig near you, you show up and support and have a beer with us! Over and out fiends!

Interview  with   Maelstrom   vocalist  and  all   instruments  for  Angelcide   done  by   Patrick

1.  Hails! Maelstrom please introduce yourself to the readers?

My spirit longs for knowledge and adventure.  My story is told through my musical journeys.

2.  When  did you  first  become  interested  in  playing  music?  What  was the first  instrument  you   learned  to  play?  When  first  starting  out   did you take  lessons  or  are you  self taught?
The quest of Maelstrom began at 15, some 15 years ago in 2001 when my first guitar was obtained.  I had some lessons for the first year or two but most of what I know now was learned through exploration and possibly some kind of claircongiance.  I believe music to be hereditary and passed down through my bloodline as my ancestors were classical composers in Italy.

3.  Who are some of your influences and favorite musicians? Are there any instruments that you  would like to learn someday?

My favorite guitar players were Jon Nodtveidt (Dissection) and Chuck Schuldiner (Death).  My favorite vocalists are the Mayhem and Gorgoroth vocalists.  Ihsahn of Emperor was also highly influential in both categories.  Apart from them my influences are to vast to list and encompasses many genres in and out of metal… although Judas Iscariot and Mutiilation were the biggest influences of the early Angelcide.  I know all of the instruments I wanted to learn but perhaps that will change someday.

4.  Besides playing all of the instruments you also handle all of the vocals for the band.  When did you start screaming?  Who are some of your favorite vocalists?
Around 14 or 15 (the beginning of the last decade) I began honing my vocal tone.  I was the vocalist of the first band I recorded/played shows with before I was good enough to play guitar for a band.  All of the musicians I mentioned in the previous question comprise my favorite vocalists- especially the Mayhem vocalists!

5.  Originally Angelcide was formed in 2003 and you stopped the band in 2010.  Why  did you  stop the band?

I was disillusioned with metal culture and disappointed that the quality of the Angelcide releases I had done throughout that time did not reflect my passion for this music.  I struggled with extreme depression amongst other things at that time and ending Angelicde was a grand act of self destruction.

6.  Maelstrom you  reformed  Angelcide in 2015.   What  gave you  the  inspiration to  reform  the  band?

I wanted the legacy of Angelcide to be better represented than it was by what I had recorded throughout that first era.  I wanted to redefine the band now that my abilities as a musician and engineer have improved throughout the years.  This new Angelcide will be more in tune with my personal and spiritual narrative and better reflect my abilities as a musician.  The band was extremely important to my survival in those very difficult teenage years and I wanted the overall quality of the catalogue to reflect this.

7.  Maelstrom you handle everything in Angelcide.  When you first started the band did you  plan  on  keeping  it  a  one man  band  or  have you  looked  for  new  members to  join?

I sought members many years ago and even had a full lineup on the 2007 demo “Soul Departure" and a session drummer on “Twilight Carnage.”  I’m no longer interested in permanent members but the next album will feature a new session drummer…. a true USBM legend….

8.  If you had the opportunity to work with any musicians {past  or  present} who  would  be some  you  would  like to  work  with?

I believe I could create some exciting music with Hellhammer, the drummer of Mayhem.  I would also like to work with a skilled keyboardist though none in particular come to mind at this time.

9.  Maelstrom you are working with Rob and Elegy Records.  How did you come in contact with this great label?

I’ve known Rob for over a decade.  He lived with members of my old band, Abazagorath, and so I was at the label's HQ quite frequently for many years.  I've had many bad experiences with labels in the past and so it was important I dealt with someone I knew and trusted upon returning.  Also, I have always worshipped Elegy as they released some of the most important American metal albums from bands such as Judas Iscariot, Evoken, and Abazagorath!

10.  Angelcide has recently released the second CD "Hunting Astral Prey."  How long did it take you  to write and record the songs for the new release?  Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics?

Many of the songs were from an early draft of what would have been the 4th Abazagorath album had I not left the band in 2014.  I revisited and refined this material, along with other songs from the past 5 years or so, to create this morbid work.  The lyrics were inspired by bold scientific theory, Lovecraftian art, and the absolute nihilistic hatred for humanity that has been much of my experience living in New York City the past two years!

11.  When you first started   Angelcide    I  believe  that  you  were  more  of  a   depressive  style  black  metal.  But  on  the  new  cd  "Hunting  Astral  Prey"   you  seem to  have  gone  for  a  more  straight  forward  blackend  death  style.  Why  did  you  decide to  go  for  a  more  straight  forward  sound?

I wouldn’t necessarily call it “straight forward" as it's more technical and varied than all of the past Angelcide albums.  However it is much heavier and brutal and this comes from my experience performing live rituals alongside bands such as Proclamation, Black Witchery, and Revenge.  It was also meant to be stylistically different than the last album I did (Abazagorath’s “The Satanic Verses,” which featured long, epic, melodic narratives) and meant to reflect my current experiences since moving to New York City.  I strive for all of my albums to be different than each other and have their own distinct personality.

12.  Besides  the  new  CD  coming  out  do  you  have   any  other  merchandise  or  releases  available   for the  readers?   If yes  where can  the  fans  buy them  from?

The new CD can be purchased at www.elegyrecords.com

A digital version of our debut “Twilight Carnage" bundled with 2007’s “Soul Departure" demo is available for purchase on www.angelcide.com

There will be a 7" split with Megalith Grave, the most minimalistic band in existence, available in early March 2016 on the resurrected Desastrious Records!

13.  What  does  black  metal  mean  to  you?

There has always been a part of me, from youth till tonight and beyond, that found beauty in darkness, death, night, hatred, despair, sadism, dominance, war, winter, the cosmos, the forests, the mountains, the ancient Earth, the vast sky, and the great unknown.  Black metal is what articulates this better than any communication currently known to humanity.

14.  Thank you Maelstrom for taking the time to fill this interview out.  Do you have any final  comments for the readers?

Follow your guides wherever they may lead you.  Think on why they have lead you here.
