The Japanese, it turns out, have more Satan-summoners than Abigail, Metalucifer, and Sabbat! Enter Verdalack, a speed metal band with riffs ripped from the 1980s, and vocals that sound like a cross between Lemmy, Cronos, King Fowley, and punk like Discharge to give them that extra cutting edge. Musically, they remind me of old Helloween, Hallows Eve, Destructor, or any of the old Metal Blade speed metal bands from the ‘80s. Shredding guitars, pounding drums, rumbling bass, and appropriately morbid imagery, all from a young denim and leather crew. Once these guys put the pedal to the floor they don’t let up, and it’s total speed and total Satan, from start to finish. They don’t let up once the speed kicks in, ever. Once they do decide to do something a bit different though, they’re capable of melody with surprisingly talented leads and dual guitar harmonies, but it’s still done fast. Melody even creeps into those shouted, unique-sounding vocals once in a while. Fans of older speed metal cults should eat this up, I know I am. This is a unique band with a sound quite unlike anyone else in the scene, and good for Hells for signing this one. They find some unique bands, and this one adds to the roster nicely.
