Interview with Skinless done by Patrick

1.Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers?
I Am Sherwood, the great Beardsman of the North, AKA Boozeman Montana.

2.Skinless was originally started in 1992 when did you first get the idea to start this band?
I actually joined the band a couple years after it was formed by Ryan Wade and Noah Carpenter, Noah’s vision was to be the heaviest band in the area, then it expanded to world-wide goals over time.

3.Who would you say are Skinless's biggest influences and how do you feel the bands music has changed over the years?
Biggest influences are definitely classic old school death metal, one nice thing is that I don’t think the band’s music has changed that much over the years. We are who we are and do what we do, that’s a good feeling for us and we aren’t looking to expand our musical horizons, just keep churning out what we churn out. Not that there aren’t personal challenges involved, we’re just not looking for mass appeal or acceptance.

4.I believe the band broke up in 2011 for a short time what led to you all stopping the band?
That was Noah’s decision, it wasn’t really a discussion.

5.Skinless was reformed in in 2013 what gave you the motivation to reform the band? And what is the bands current line up?
Just the desire to write brutal music and play brutal shows. We have all be friends for a long time and like being in the band.

6.Savagery is the bands newest release which will be released soon through Relapse. How long did it take to write the music for the new release? And does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?
Noah is the main songwriter and always has been, the addition of Dave on guitar has added some other songwriting perspectives, so that’s been cool. I think with most bands, although there may be one main songwriter, it’s the group effort that solidifies the sound. SKINLESS has a sound and while it’s primarily Noah’s initial vision, things take a new life with everyone involved.

7.Who usually handles writing the lyrics and what are some subjects you all wrote about on Savagery?
I write most of the lyrics but am always open to input and on the past couple records Noah has provided some starting points that I’ve build upon lyrical

8. I know Skinless has played many shows over the years what have been some of the most memorable shows that Skinless has played? And who were some of your favorite bands to share the stage with?
Man, they’ve all been interesting. We get along with everyone and as long as we’re out playing music, having beer and being brutal, we are happy. This past Netherlands Deathfest was pretty awesome, we shared the venue with tons of great bands and tons of old friends, always fun!

9.Are their any tours or shows planned in support of the new release? If yes where will the band be playing? Are their any countries that Skinless has never played that you would like to tour one day?
We just played Iceland and that was awesome, we can check that off the list and hope to return soon! We are playing some badass shows in June with Ringworm, Churchburn and Outer Heaven, going to be killer ending up with a stop in our home area with Bob our drummers other band that hasn’t played in like 10 years, Disciples Of Berkowitz as well as Noah’s heavy metal band Armor Column.

10.Skinless comes out of the mighty New York death metal scene what is your opinion of New York's death metal scene over the decades?
It’s always been awesome and is extremely strong still. Nice place to call home!

11.Who are your all-time favorite New York bands? And are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?
SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION, INTERNAL BLEEDING! I’m not aware of any new NY death metal bands that are killing it, but I always have my ears open!

12.When not working on new music or band business what do you enjoy doing in your sparetime? I like to snowboard and hang out with my family.

13.Has Skinless ever made a music video for any of your songs over the years if yes which song?
Yes, please check it out here:
SKINLESS - Skull Session (Official Music Video) 'Savagery' is out now on CD/LP/Digital Order via Relapse Records Here: Digital Downloads & Streaming:
It totally sums up the band in 5 min!

15.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final words for the readers?
