Interview with Path Of Redemption done on 6-23-25

1.Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers?

Hi Patrick and thank you for your interest in Path of Redemption. This is Fosc, drummer of the band.

2.At what age did you first discover black and death metal and what is it about genres of music that drew you in?

When I was 9 years old I started listening to Metallica, Slayer, Kreator, Sodom, Anthrax and those thrash metal bands. Later on, at the age of 13 I discovered Death and Black metal with Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Emperor, Immortal, Marduk, Enslaved, Dissection, Satyricon, Venom, Bathory, Hades...and that was a no turning point, that music was what I really loved.

3..Who were the first bands and artists that you heard and who are some of the current bands that have caught your attention?

The bands that caught my attention are those I mentioned before plus many others like Unanimated, Sacramentum, Setherial, Dawn, Borknagar, Deeds of Flesh, Obituary and many more among those genres. Nowadays, the market is full of bands and it is hard to keep track of all new bands, but to mention a few ones that I like are Balmog, a really good Black metal band from Spain, The Spirit, a good German death-black band, Spectral Wound, Black metal from Canada, Pure Wrath, Indonesian Black metal or Imperial Triumphant, avantgarde Black metal from the USA.

4.When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you all started Path Of Redemption? How did you choose Path Of Redemption as the name for this band?

MAP and I met for the first time in 1996. We lived close by and I was ruling a fanzine back then called Brutal Subway, so I got in touch with Ouija who where one of the greatest emerging Black Metal bands in Spain. I was totally amazed by their music when they even had only one rehearsal recorded and no official recordings.

Shogoth and MAP met around 2020 when Shogoth joined Ouija as a bass Player. Then we all met at the beginning of 2024 to start Path of Redemption.

5.The debut EP. Echoes From The Depths is the debut EP. which will be released in early July through Northern Shadow when did the band first come in contact with this label?

We got the master of the recording finalised at the beginning of May 2025 and we sent it to diferent labels to look for a deal. In 2 weeks time we got different offers, one of  them from Northern Shadow, and we thought they were the right label to work with this first release of the band.

6.How long did it take the band to write the music for the debut EP. Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually handle everything?

It took almost one year to compose the 4 songs of the EP. The main initial ideas for the songs come from MAP, then the 3 of us work together to give form to the songs.

7. Besides the debut EP. that is coming out soon does the band have any other merchandise currently availible for the readers to purchase? If yes what is availible and where can the readers buy it?

At this moment we don’t have any other product rather than the CD or the digital EP that will be available from July 4th directly from us at our Bandcamp page or social media networks or from our label Northern Shadow. We might have in the future other items to sell, so keep tuned in our social networks!

8.Has the band had the opportunity to play live yet?If yes what have the shows been like?Who are some bands you have shared the stage with?

Not yet. We have been focused on the recording of the EP and now its promotion, so we didn’t have time to work on our live set. We don’t discard to play shows in the future, but time will see.

9.Are their any tours or shows planned for in support of Echoes From The Depths?

Not really, we are a new band so, no tours planned. As I said, we don’t close any doors for any live performances in the future.

10.Has the band started writing new music for the next EP or release? If yes how many songs will the next release have?

Not so far. We are now focusing on the EP’s promotion so it’s early to say how many songs will have the next release. Hopefully in a few months we’ll start working on it.

11.Path Of Redemption comes out of Spain's black and death metal scene what are your thoughts of the scene in Spain over the years?

The Spanish scene is flooded with new releases all the time and with really great bands such as Balmog, Lostregos, Spectrum Mortis, Wormed, Avern, Cauldron, Ouija, Ered... the quality of their works has equalled International productions and there’s a feeling of community when you attend to concerts and festivals.

12.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Spain? Are their any new bands that you could recomend to the readers?

My all-time favourite Spanish bands are Ouija, Asgaroth, Blazemth, Wormed, Desecrate and Levial. About new bands, Absolutism is a great techdeath-grind band and TodoMal is a great progrock-doom band formed by my friend Chris (ex-Asgaroth).

13.When not working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

Unfortunately I lack a lot of free time hahaha but mostly what I do is being with my family and enjoying quality time with them.

14.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thanks a lot for the interview Patrick and good luck with Winter Torment! To all your readers, check out our new EP “Echoes from the Depths” on all digital platforms on 4th of July.
