Blackslash--Heroes, Saints & Fools (CD/LP) {2025 Iron Shield Records}

I was amazed, based on how young this band seems to be, to find that this is Blackslash's fifth full length. I have not heard their back catalog, so I had no idea what I was in for with their music. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Iron Maiden-like heavy metal with constant and pleasant guitar harmonies and strong melodies. I see where the Iron Maiden comparisons this band receives come from, with the speedy bass lines that gallop behind the music, backing the melody perfectly. The vocals, however, are not reminiscent of Iron Maiden, but rather remind me of Andi Deris of Helloween, with that same method of vibrato and husky delivery, with soaring melodies and great lyrical delivery. The band does share some traits with power metal bands, with galloping drums and catchy choruses, but this is emphatically not modern power metal. It's pure heavy metal, being more aggressive than the saccharin-sweet power metal bands of today. This is fine music, made by capable musicians, and it is instantly memorable stuff that only improves with multiple listens. I highly recommend it to traditional metal fans.
