Interview with Markus drums and Diego guitarist and vocalist of Coldblood done by Patrick
1. Hello Markus and Diego when did you first meet each other? Please introduce yourselfs to the readers?
Diego Mercadante: In 2007 we did some tests for a local band together and from that moment on we always worked in the music scene playing practically in the same bands. In 2012 Markus invited me to join Coldblood and so things were getting in shape and here we are
2. Coldblood formed back in 1992 what gave you all the idea to start this band? How did you all choose the name of the band?
Markus Couttinho: We were young between 17, 18 and as fans we were influenced by bands as Venom, Possessed, Mercyful Fate, Blac Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Bathory. The idea of forming a band came after we discovered bands such as Death, Deicide, Morbid Ange, Master, Massacre, Bolt Thrower, Paradise Lost (Old), Benediction... The Death Metal played by these bands influenced us directly to create Coldblood.
3. How would you say Coldblood's music has changed over the years? Who are some bands that has influenced Coldblood's musical style?
Markus Couttinho: Our roots are based on Old School Death Metal, and we come from there, but we like to try some new and unusual things. It´s a way to put our identity.
4. Coldblood is getting ready to release their third full-length cd "Indescribable Physiognomy of The Devil" through the labels Satanath Rec. and Metallic Media how did the band come in contact with these labels?
Markus Couttinho: We had already worked with Metalic Media in the “Chronology of Satanic Events" album in 2013 and it was through them that we met Satanath Rec. from Russia. They offered us a proposal to release the new album via a partnership between them, we found that was viable, and so it happened.
5. How long did it take to write the music for "Indescribable Physiognomy of The Devil" ? Does the whole band work on the music or does one member usually write everything?

Diego Mercadante: When we got back from the first part of the ‘Chronology of Satanic Events’ tour in 2013, I started to record and save some ideas for the right time. We already have some material to develop. Both of us are the heart of the band, I show some riff sequences to Markus and then we develop the arrangements, structure and many times something changes along the way or appears spontaneously.
6. Besides the upcoming cd does the band have any past releases still available for the readers? What about other merchandise does the band have any left and if yes where can the readers buy it?
Markus Couttinho: For this album, we wrote only 10 themes. What we have as bonus are the instrumental versions of the tracks "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil", “Draco -l- Pneumathic Phenon" and "Metaphisical Evil". 7. Does ColdBlood get to play "live" very often or do you prefer working in the studio? What have been some of ColdBlood's most memorable shows over the years?
Markus Couttinho: We are a road band, we like to do shows and whenever we can, we are playing somewhere, but we like to be working at the studio too, we know that it is hard work and mentally tiring, but we like and learn a lot in each record we made. All shows are important to us....to 50, 100, 200, 1000 people, we always give our blood.

8. Are their any shows or tours that the readers should watch out for.If yes where will the band be playing?
Markus Couttinho: Now, we are going to stay in South America and for the next year, we are negotiating a tour in Mexico to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band and the 10th anniversary of the release of our first album, besides it will be a tour to promote the new album, for sure.

10.Coldblood comes out of Brazil's death metal scene what is your opinions of the metal scene in Brazil?
Markus Couttinho: I like the Brazilian and South American scene very much. There are excellent bands here. I have been watching what is happening here. We have big events happening, not only in Brazil but also in our neighbor countries as well. Not only big events or international ones, but in undergrounds events and bars too

11. Who are your all-time favorite Brazilian bands? And are their any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for?
Markus Couttinho: I do not have a favorite, but I can recommend the following bands: Headhunter D.C., Krisiun, Ocultan, Escarnium, Mystifier, Amen Corner, Mysteriis, Grave Desecrator, Disgrace and Terror, Oligarquia, Nervo Chaos, Malefactor, Cauterization, Doomsday Ceremony, Creptum, Vulturine, The Unhaligast, Lápide, Velho, Castifas, Amazarak, and the classics... Sarcófago, Mutilator, Chakal, Korzus, Sepultura, Witchhammer, Holocausto, Dorsal Atlântica, Azul Limão, Taurus.....

13. Markus you handle the drums in Coldblood at what age did you become interested in playing the drums? Are you self-taught or did you take lessons when first starting out?
Markus Couttinho: I started to get interested in drums at 12, under the influence of my uncle who listened to Heavy Metal in 1985, in the same year as the first Rock n Rio. I saw him doing air drums and that made me to get interested in drums. He also had albums such as "Piece of Mind", “The Number of the Beast" and “Powerslave” from Iron Maiden, “Back in Black” and “Jailbreak” from AC/DC and “1984” from Van Halen. I learned to play by myself, never had a teacher and through the years I´ve been developing my techniques and personal style. It´s a learning process for the entire life.
14. Who are some of your influences and favorite drummers? Besides the drums do you currently play any other instruments?
Markus Couttinho: I use to say that my teachers are Bill Ward, Clive Burr, Tommy Aldridge, Kirk Arrington, Kim Ruzz, Mikkey Dee, Abaddon, Pete Sandoval, DD Crazy e Iggor Cavalera Pete Sandoval e . I also play a little guitar, but nothing virtuous, just to write riffs and songs to my Black Metal projects and DSBM.
15. Diego you take care of the guitars for the band when did you start playing the guitars? Are you self-taught or did you take lessons when first starting out?
Diego Mercadante: When I started to play I had some lessons for a while, but during my musical journey, I was meeting other guitar players who were very good and gave me tips. But I learned a lot of things by watching videos of the bands I liked
16. Who are some of your influences and favorite guitar players? And besides the guitars do you currently play any other instruments?
Diego Mercadante: Tray Azagoth, Dimebag Darrel, Andy LaRocque, Jon Nödtveidt, Nergal, Moyses Kolesne for sure. It´s hard because I like really like many guitar players and I try to get what they have of special and that can be useful for my musical essence. I play a little drums and keyboards but not enough to take it seriously.
17. Besides the guitars Diego you also take care of the vocals when did you start growling? And do you do anything special to keep your voice and throat healthy? Who are some of your favorite vocalists?
Diego Mercadante: In 2012 when I joined Coldblood, I had never done a guttural voice. I was so focused on learning and Markus gave me credibility for knowing me for a long time, what was important. Everyone develops a different style and, in my case, quitting cigarettes and avoiding ice drinks helped me a lot. I also did some classes with one of the best coaches in Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Syren. He helped me to improve my technique and to avoid some bad paths that could be prejudicial to me with time.
