Interview   with  Ungod   done  by   Patrick

1.Hails!   when  did you  first  get  into  metal   music? Who   were  some  of the  first  bands  you  discovered?

I got into Metal in the mid/late 80s. As we talk about Metal I discovered Venom, Bathory, Sodom, Kreator…and in the late 80s/early 90s it was Darkthrone, Mayhem and so on.  Samael had an impact on me and us.

2.Ungod was formed  in  1991   what  gave you   the   idea  to  start this  band? And  the  band  broke up  in  2002   what was the reason you all decided to stop  the  band?

As the Death Metal came up we formed an Death Metal Band called Phlegm but soon we wanted to be more extreme and the norweigain Black Metal Bands of that time (and early Samael) inspired us a lot. So we formed Ungod.

3.Ungod   reformed   in  2008   what  made you  all  decide to  reform  the  band? And  what  is the   current  line up  of  Ungod?

Well, we felt the need to do more music. It was just that simple. Today Ungod is:
Baal on vocals, Cryptic Tormentor on the guitar, Sulphur Irae on the bass and Condemptor on drums.

4.How  would  you  say the   bands  music   has  changed  since the  beginning  until  present day?  Who  are  some  of the  bands  biggest   influences?

I don’t think that the music changed very much. It is the sound that changed. We are still influenced by early Samael, Darkthrone, Hellhammer, early Celtic Frost, Mayhem…and so on. But with the new members there are also new influences.

5.Ungod   is  getting  ready to  release  the  newest  full-length   "Bewitched By Sins  And Lust"  through  Final  Gate  Rec.  how  did you  all  come  in  contact   with this  label?

Marco of Final Gate Records is an old friend of us and he always liked Ungod. And he was the first to ask if we are intereted to do our new album on his label. So why not?

6.How  long  did  it take  the  band  to  write  the  music  for  these  songs?Does  the   whole  band  take  part  in  the  writing  process or does   one  member  usually  write  everything?

The whole band takes part by writing the songs. And it depends how long it takes. Sometimes we are fast and sometimes we are slow.

7.Besides  the  new  cd   "Bewitched By Sins  And Lust"   does  the   band  have  any  of  the  previous  releases  or  merchandise  still  available  for  the  readers? If  yes  where  can  the  readers  buy your  merchandise?

At the moment we only got the CD because our shirts are sold out right now. But we will do new ones soon. Check out our facebook page for updated informations: https://www.facebook.com/UNGOD-1037290856315377/?fref=ts

8.In  your   opinion   what  is  the  best  and  worst  thing  about  the  underground   metal  scene today?  And  what  does  underground  metal  mean  to you?

The good and the worst things are the same. The scene is so big that there is very good music and there are a lot of shows. But there is also too much boring music and the scene lost much of it’s spirit.
For Ungod the underground means everything. It means meeting other bands and staying in touch with them, supporting each other, stand against the mainstream and keep the black flame burning against the modern times!

9. Ungod   recently  played  their  first  ever  live  show  the  destroying Texas fest. how  was  the  show  for you  all?  Who  were some  of the  other  bands  on  the  bill?

The show was awesome! Check out the youtube Videos! We played with our comrades from Sacrocurse, Phtahil, Necroholocaust and Vararthron which was an honour! Also it was great to play with Weregoat, Warmaster and the mighty, mighty Pete Helmkamp with Kerasphorus.

10.Does  the  band  have  any  other  upcoming  shows  or  tours  to  tell the  readers  about?  If  yes  where  are  some  places the  band  will  be   playing?

We will play no tour but we will play in Dresden, German on december 17th 2016 and in Oberhausen, Germany on march 18th 2017.

11. Ungod   comes  out of  Germany's  old-school  black  metal  scene  what  is your  opinion  of  the  German  scene?

The are many good and very good bands like Darkened nocturn slaughtercult, II, Pestnebel. But the german scene seems very divided. There is no real comradeship but rivalry. But we get along very well within the german scene although our real brothers live abroad.

12.Who   are  your  all-time  favorite   German  bands  and  are their  any  new  bands  you  feel  the  readers   should  watch  out  for?

For  me personally it is Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. Check out II, Truppensturm and Pestnebel!

13.Besides  German bands  are their  any  good  German  labels or  distro's  you  feel  the  readers  should  check  out  soon?

Final Gate Rec. of course and Iron Bonehead!

14.Thank  you  for  taking  the  time  to  fill  this  interview  out  do  you  all  have  any  final  words  for the  readers?
Thanx for supporting! Check out our new album! Hail tot he abyss!
