Death  Vomit-- Gutted  By  Horrors   cd   {Xtreem Music}Death  Vomit   come  out  of  the  mighty   Chiliean metal  scene  playing  heavy  old school  death metal.The  guitars  are  mid paced  with  some  faster  raging  guitar  chords and  few  solo's.The  vocalist  does  a  great  job  with  the  heavy old-school death  growls  and  screams  entertwined  in a  few  of  the  songs. Death  Vomit    are  one  of  Chile's  best  new  death  metal  acts  pick  this  up  today.

Doomed--Our  Ruin Silhouttes    {Solitude  Productions}

Death,doom  band  Doomed  comes  out  of the  German scene. All  the  instruments  are  done  by  Pierre Laube  and  the  new  cd    "Our  Ruin Silhouttes" is  being  released  by  the  excellent  Russian  label  Solitude Prod.The  music  is   very  slow   and  crushing  death/doom with  some  mid tempo  guitars  before  going back  to  the  slow dreadful  sound.The  vocals  are  death  growls  but  dne   extremely  well.Their  are  hints  of  funeral  doom  and  even  some  atmospheric  parts  mixed  in  with  the  heavy death/doom.If  you  are  a  fan  of  slow,dreadful  doom  then  this  is  a  release  you  must  get  today.

Force  Of   Darkness--Absolute  Verb  Of  Chaos  And  Darkness   cd   {Hells  Headbangers  Records} 

Force  Of   Darkness  are  a  new  band to  my  ears from  the  great  Chilean metal  scene   returning  with  their  third  cd.The  band   plays  a  good  style  of  war  death  metal  with  a  healthy  dose  of   thrashinfluence.The  guitars  are  played  with  a lot  of  speed  and  aggressive war  metal riffs.The  drumming  is   chaotic  with  some  very  well  done  blast  beats  throughout  the  songs  but  the  drummer  does  slow  it  down to  a  mid paced range  before  starting  the  aggression  up  again.The  vocals  are  death  growls  with  some  screams  entertwined.If  you  are  a  metal  fanatic  who  enjoys  the  thrashing/death and  even  some  war metal  mixed  in  then  definitely  pick  this  up  today.

Fornicus--Storming   Heaven   cd/digital  {Self  released}

coming  out  of  the  U.S Black  metal  scene  is  Kentucky's  Fornicus  the  music  is  a  blend  of  vicious  black  and  some  death metal  influenc  as  well.The  guitars  are  played  with  a lot  of  speed  and  aggressive   riffs  but also  have and   some  really  well  played  patterns within  the  music.The   vocals  are a mix  of  black metal  shrieks  mixed  with  some death metal growls.Fornicus  does  a  very  good  hybrid  of  blackend  death metal

Graveyard Ghoul--The Living Cemetary  CD,LP   {Final  Gate  Records}

This  is  my  first  encounter  with  Germany's  Graveyard Ghoul  who  recently  released  their  second  cd  The Living Cemetary  {also  a  vinyl  version  will be  available}  the  music  is  mid tempo  with  some  faster  guitar  and  drumming  patterns  mixed  in a  few  of  the  songs. If  you  are  a  fan  of  early  to  mid  nineties  death metal  with  influences  from  both  the  U.S and European  scenes.

Khthoniik  Cerviiks--Heptae  Drone  Cassette tape   {Iron  Bonehead  Rec.}

Germany's   Khthoniik  Cerviikshave   released  their  debut  demo  cass "Heptae  Drone "   seven  songs  of fast,crazed  death metal.Very  well played  guitars  that  rang  between  ultra  fast  to a  more  controlled  mid-paced  guitar  sound.The  drummer  is  excellent  with  the  crazy,fast  drumming  patterns.The  vocals  are  death  metal  growls  that  are  done  excellent.

Anyone  into  real  death  metal  and  loves  tapes  should  pick   this  up  today.

Krueger--Return  To  Death  cd   {self-released}

Brazil's  Krueger  have   released  their  new  cd  "Return  To  Death"   have  unleashed  a  great   cd  of  old-school  death  metal  and a  healthy  dose  of  thrashy  guitars.The  guitars  are  fast  with  some  fast  thrashy  riffs  and some  heavier  death  metal  riffs  with  some  solo's  mixed  in a  few  of  the  tracks.The  drumming  is  top  notch  with  crazed and  chaotic  drumming  patterns.The  vocals  are  death  growls  and  some  raspy screams  mixed  in  a  few  of  the  songs.Krueger   have  released  a    great and  solid  album  and  is  recommended  to  anyone  who  is   into  early  nineties  death,thrash  metal.

Man  Gremmes  Kan--On  A Pulpit  Of  Souls  demo  2013  {Glorious  North  Productions}

 

 Man  Gremmes  Kan  is  a   three  man  band  coming  out  of   the  Norwegian  Black  Metal  scene.Playing  old-school,raw  black  metal  similar  to  the  late  80's,early  90's  black  metal  scene.Fast  blackend  thrashy  guitars  with  some  really  well  played  guitars  with  the  cold,razorsharp  riffs.The  drumming  is  done  with  a  variety  of  mid paced  drumming  patterns  and  a  more  vicious  fast  drum  beats.The  vocals   are  done  in  the  early  vein  of  raw  shrieks  and  screams  mixed  in some  of  the  tracks.  A very  good  release  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old school  blackend  metal  with  some  thrash  influences  mixed  in  this  is  a  great  band.

Here  comes  the  second  demo  from  Finlands   Obscure  Burial  raw,crazed  death  metal  with  some   very  well played  fast thrashing  guitars.The  drummer  is  very  good  with  keeping  up  with  the  fast  and  more  mid paced  beats in  the  songs  going  from  chaotic and  extremely  fast  to  a  more  mid  range.This   is  a   very  good  demo  can't  wait  to  hear  their  new  material  when  it  is  ready  and  released fans  of  craed  old-school  death  metal  will  love  this  so  get  it  today!!

Reckless  Manslaughter   comes  out  of  the  German  underground  metal  scene   playing  old-school  death  metal  mixing  in  old  U.S  and  German  influences.The  guitars  are  played  at  a  pretty  fast  pace  throughout  the  songs   but  do  slow to  a  more  mid-paced  range  The  drumming  is  top  notch  with  a  mixture  of  some  fast  drum  patterns  and  some  mid  ranged  drums.The  vocals   are   Death  metal  growls   with  a lot  of  power  and  aggressive  tones  within done  extremely  well.

Vorzug----I Am In  Hell  {Digital  Single/download} 

 

This  is  the  debut  single  I Am  In Hell  from Vorzug a  new  band  from   the  Phoenix AZ  area.The  band  plays  a  very  old-school  style  of  blackend  death  metal  with  some  thrashy guitars in  the song.The  song  is  mid  paced  with  some  great  and  killer  guitar  solo's  and  riffs  in  the  debut  song.The  drumming  goes  from  extremely  fast  thrashy  drums to  a  mid  paced  range.The  vocalist  starts  off  with  death  growls  but  toward  the  middle  of  the  song switches  to  old-school  black metal  screams/vocals.I am   very  eager  to  hear  the  debut  when  it  is  released  but  for   now  if  you  are  into  digital-songs/downloads   get  a  copy  of  this  song

1.Hello Leimy how is life in Germany going for you? When did you first discover metal?


  Hi Patrick! Life is perfect here at the moment! We had some great gigs this year (the last one was at the Malta Deathfest one week ago) and now we are preparing for entering the studio in October to record three new songs. But until then I plan to go to a few cool festivals and concerts in the next weeks (e.g. the NRW Deathfest, Carnage Feast and the Bolt Thrower-tour). I'm a metalhead since I am 11 years old. A friend at school gave me „...and justice for all“ from Metallica and *baaaaamm*, I was totally into this kind of music :D A few years later, in 1996 I discovered Cannibal Corpse and so for 18 years I'm in love with Death Metal – a true love which will never end ;)






2.When did you meet the other members of Reckless Manslaughter? What is the current line up? For the readers who have never heard Reckless Manslaughter how
would you describe the music?


 At the moment the lineup consists of the following people (and I'm sure it will be the perfect lineup for a long time): Chris - Bass Dennis – Guitar
Leimy – Vocals
Pneumator – Drums Sebi – Guitar
Dennis joined us in 2012, when we were in search for a second guitar-player to evolve our sound and he totally fits to us and the vision we had with RECKLESS MANSLAUGHTER. It was a great decision because he expanded our sound and we soon became friends. Until then there were only the four friends Chris, Leimy, Pneumator and Sebi who just wanted to do some brutal old school Death Metal to kick some asses :D I would describe our music as a mixture between Brutal Death Metal and classic Death Metal in the vein of Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity and here and there even Bolt Thrower. 3.The band is signed to Final Gate Rec. how did the band come in contact with this label?Are you happy with the job they have done so far?



We know Marco from Final Gate Records (he is also the owner of Rotten Roll Rex) since a few years from concerts and festivals. He is really a nice guy and we gave him the Promo-CD of our latest album at a gig of Macabre and he was directly totally into our stuff and wanted to release it! We are really happy with the work he has done so far, because he totally stands behind the stuff he has in his sortiment and he only releases music which he really likes. No rip-off behavior, just pure dedication!



4.Reckless Manslaughter has released their second cd "Blast Into Oblivion" how long did it take to write the music for the songs? 



We are not the fastest songwriters, so it took nearly two years to get the stuff together. Sometimes it's hard to arrange with the music because of our jobs and families and so there aren't so many rehearsals. But when we rehearse then the earth is shaking and we collect cool riffs and ideas. Hope the next album won't take so much time...



5.Does the whole band work on the music or does one member usually write everything?


  We are doing the classical style of writing music: A guitar-player comes in with a cool riff-idea and around that we construct a new song at our rehearsal-room. So everybody can contribute with his own ideas.


6. Who usually writes the lyrics for the band? What are some topics/subjects you all write about?



Usually I'm in charge for the lyrics. But since I'm not the best lyric-writer I always get some help from the other bandmebers or friends. Usually we are writing about death, war and apocalypse. Typical Death Metal stuff ;) For us the lyrics aren't so important and so you will never hear some obscure, pseudointellectual elitist-shit. Just some putrid and rotten Death Metal-stuff right in your face ;)


7.Reckless Manslaughter comes out of the mighty German scene.What is your opinion of Germany's metal scene?



 At the moment there is a great underground-scene in Germany and in the last few years we met a lot of cool bands on the road with which we became friends. There is a strong solidarity between the bands and no rivalry. We help each other with gigs and even guest-apperances and enjoy the positive reactions we get. There are so many different and totally individual bands like never before. No matter if you like Swedish Death metal, Brutal Death Metal, American Death Metal, Death/Doom or Black/Death: For every taste you will find a special band! I hope the scene will stay strong!



8.Who are your all time favorite German bands? Are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out?


My two favourite German bands are Fleshcrawl and Obscenity. I can't decide which I love more since they are providing totally different styles of Death Metal, but both meant much to me and influenced me a lot! At the moment I'm totally in love with the new stuff of our friends of Diabolical Imperium which released a great new album last year which has to be checked out by any fan of American Death Metal! The new Deserted Fear-album will also be a total killer and prepare for the best album which Obscure Infinity has recorded so far! I visited them in the studio and also heard an early roughmix and I was totally blown away! American Death Metal meets Swedish Death Metal meets Black Metal! I'm sure this will be a classic. Oh and then there are my brothers from Sulphur Aeon who also released a fantastic debut last year and got phenomenal reactions from all over the world for their awesome „swallowed by the ocean's tide“-record. As you see, there are many great bands here :)




9.Does Reckless Manslaughter play "live" very often or do you prefer the studio?



We totally prefer to play live! There is nothing which could be cooler than presenting your stuff to an interested audience! Usually we play about 15 gigs per year, which isn't so much. But it's okay for us, because of our work- and family-duties. So every gig is a big event for us and we give our best to make everytime a big party :D



10.Does the band have any tours or shows coming up if yes please tell the readers where you will be playing? Who are some bands you have shared the stage with?



The next gig is at our favourite place at the „AJZ Bahndamm“ in Wermelskirchen and we will share the stage with such awesome acts as Ecocide, Lifeless, Morbid Flesh and Funeral Whore. It will be a night to remember for sure :D After that we have a gig with Wound and Brutally Deceased in Wolfsburg and in December we contribute at a brutal Death Metal-concert in Paderborn. Until today we shared the stage with such awesome acts like Beheaded, Defeated Sanity, Possessed, Brutal Truth, Sadistic Intent, Dehumanized, Cruciamentum, Chapel of Disease, Orphalis, Arroganz, Tombthroat, Mass Infection, Putrid Pile, Cropment or, in May 2011, even with the mighty Morgoth! Not the worst list, uhh? :D




11.What does the term underground metal mean to you?



Underground means insurgency against the mainstream! Fuck trends, fuck moneymakers and followers! Underground means devotion and dedication to the music we love so much: Death fucking Metal!



12.Leimy you handle the vocals for the band when did you first become interested in singing/growling? Do you do anything special to keep your throat/voice healthy?



At the age of 16 I began to record my own growls while singing to some old Six Feet Under stuff. I did a little competition who sounds more brutal and who can growl deeper with an old friend and there we discovered our talent for this singing-style. I loved it to experiment with the voice and I always wanted to found my own Death Metal-band. Well, it took me 8 years until this dream come true, but better late than never ;) Before we rehearse or play a gig I always warm up my voice with 10 minutes of different vocal-warm-ups (I discovered them from the „zen of screaming“-DVD from Melissa Cross) which totally sounds strange and bothersome, but it really helps to pretend vocal-chord-damage! I only can recommend this to any extreme-singer!


13.Leimy who are some of your favorite vocalists? Do you currently play any other instruments?


My favourite vocalists are Jason Avery (Ex-Monstrosity), Chris Barnes (only the „Tomb of the mutilated/The Bleeding”-era), Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth, Ex-Bloodbath), Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Ex-Bloodbath), George Fisher (Cannibal Corpse) and Tommy Dahlström (Aeon, Defaced Creation). I tried out different instruments but I have no feeling for rhythm so I decided to let it be ;)



14.Leimy do you or any of the members of Reckless Manslaughter currently play in side bands? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?



At the moment only Chris, our bass-player, is playing in another band. The band is called „The Mystery“ and it is totally different to our stuff. It is melodic Heavy Metal with a female singer. Really not my kind of music ;)  Dennis used to play at the classic Doom Metal-band „For god's sake“ but they unfortunately disbanded last year without releasing their already recorded, really awesome album which was totally influenced by Candlemass or even Black Sabbath. Really a shame that it was never released....

 Interview with Chiral of Chiral done by Patrick

1.Hello when did you first get the idea to form Chiral? How did you come up with the name of the band? For  the readers who have never heard Chiral's music how would you describe the music?


I had the idea of Chiral at the end of 2013 when I recorded a demo version of Sulfur, which is included in my first demo “Winter Eternal”.
I got the inspiration for the name from an episode of “Breaking Bad”, the famous TV series.
I’d like to describe Chiral’s music as Elite Black Metal, which is a term that I like very much. By the way my music is black metal with traces of prog rock, death metal, doom metal and ambient sounds.





2.When you started Chiral did you plan to keep it a one-man band or have you searched for other musicians  to join?


No, I always wanted to keep Chiral as a one-man band since the very beginning.




3.If you had the opportunity to work with any musicians {past or present} who are some musicians you would love to work with?



Well, I’ll be very pleased to work with Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, he’s surely one of my main inspirations.
I also be very happy to work with Steven Wilson, I think he’s one the brightest minds that we have today in music.



4. Chiral has released the debut E.P {Digitally} "Abisso" how long did it take you to write the music for these song? Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics?



I spent about 2 months to write the music part.
Well, actually I cannot say exactly where I draw the inspiration for the lyrics. Simply I needed to talk about some stuff that really mind to me.

It’s only 2.50€, which is about 3 bucks, so it’s very affordable. Isn’t it!?!



6.I know Black Plague Records is supposed to release the cd version soon. Any idea when it might be  released? Will their be any bonus songs on the cd version?



It should come out in early 2015. And no, it doesn’t contain any bonus song, but it’ll come in an awesome jewel case with a fucking good cover art…isn’t enough? Hahaha



7.How has the response been from the fans? What about the press?



Not bad at all so far. Can you believe that some fans, and also a couple of ‘zines, defines “Abisso” as a masterpiece!?!
I know that it’s not a masterpiece at all, and maybe those comments are overrated, but I fell happy anyway to know that someone really enjoys my stuff.




8.Have you started working on the next demo or full-length? Any idea how many songs will be on the next  release?



Yes, I do. But there’re a mere draft songs at the moment, so I don’t know yet if I’ll include all in my next release.
Maybe it’s too early to talk about a new album, but yes, I’m working on something.



9.Have you ever considered playing live or is Chiral a studio only project?



I decided to keep Chiral only as a studio project at the moment.





10.You come out of the mighty Italian metal  scene. What is your opinion of Italy's metal  scene?




Actually I don’t think that the Italian metal scene could really be called mighty. Personally I don’t like so much the extreme music we have in Italy. Maybe I shouldn’t say so, but it’s just what I think.



11.Who are your all-time favorite bands from Italy? Are there any new bands you feel the readers should check out?



I said before I don’t appreciated very much the Italian metal, but there’re few really huge bands. My favorites are: Chaos Plague, finest prog death; Solitude Project, depressive black/rock, I listened to their latest split with Vita Odiosa at least a thousand time; Monumentum, well, what can I say? Simply Magnificent!
And if I have to suggest some new bands to keep an eye on, I’ll probably say: Woman Is The Earth (atmospheric black metal from USA), HaatE (black ambient from Italy) and Bròn (ambient black from Scotland).



12.At what age did you become interested in  playing the guitars? Are you self taught or did you take lessons when first learning?



I started playing the guitar when I was 10 years old. I took a couple years lessons at the very beginning, then I’ve decided to develop my skill on my own.
Anyway, I truly believe that having a good teacher it’s absolutely crucial in a musical instrument learning process.






13.Who are some of your influences/favorite guitarists? Do you play any other instruments?


My all times favorites guitarist are:
Pat Metheny, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Petrucci, Kiko Loureiro and Gary Moore.
And yes, I play bass guitar and drum (just a little bit) beside guitar. I also learned to play harmonica some years ago.




14.You also handle the vocals for the band when did you first start singing/screaming? Do you do anything to  keep your voice/throat healthy? Who are some of your favorite vocalists?




That’s a good question! Actually I don’t know when I started to scream, but probably no more than a couple of years ago.
But I’m not a singer at all. Yes, I like to scream and growl all along my music but surely I don’t have the proper technique for these kind of vocals. Simply I try to imitate my favorite singers, and that’s how my scream comes out. So I don’t have secret tips to maintain my throat health. But I can suggest you to warm up your throat and vocal-chords every times before you start to sing/practice.
Anyway my favorite vocalist are:
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth), the best ever for me, period.
Niilo Sevanen (Insomnium).
Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection), R.I.P. but he’s still one of the best.
Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates), anyway I prefer Tompa’s early years vocals.
Steffen Kummerer (Thulcandra).





15.Well Chiral thank you for taking the time to do this interview do you have any final comments for the readers?

1.Metal  hails  Peter  how  is  your   week  going?  When  did  you  first  start   listening  to   metal? Who  were  the  first  bands   you  listened  to?



Week is going well, finishing up confirming support bands for April 2015 Europe tour and preparing for the new album release. I was listening to Kiss in 1978-79 and then stuff like Judas Priest, Ozzy, Black Sabbath and so on.





2.You  started   Bloodsoaked  in  2006   did  you  plan  to  keep   Bloodsoaked  a  one  man  band  or  have  you   looked  for  other  members  to  join the  band?


When I first started I wanted Bloodsoaked to be a full band but it never worked out. It was then going to be a studio only and one album project and it kind of took off from there. I was doing things One-Man style for many years and then about 2 1/2 years ago added a second guitarist/vocals (Joseph Darling).  It worked out great and then we recently parted ways so I'm back to a One-Man band again.  I was thinking of looking for a replacement but I think I'm going to keep it One-Man for a while and get back to the way it was.




3.If  you  had  the   opportunity   to  work  with  any  musicians{past  or  present}  who  would  you  like  to   work  with?


 For me it would be John Tardy of Obituary and/ore Martin Van Drunen of Pestilence/Hail of Bullets.  I grew up loving their vocal styles and would love for them to do vocals on my songs, would be a dream come true.



4.For  the   readers   who  may  not  of  ever  heard  Bloodsoaked's   music  how  would  you  describe  your  music?


 BLOODSOAKED concentrates on purely oldschool, no frills, straight forward, skull crushing Death Metal in the most raw and primitive form! There are no "slam till you can't slam no more breakdowns", no pig squeals, no arpeggios; simply classic Death Metal, nothing more, nothing less.




5.Bloodsoaked   has  worked  with  Comatose  Music   since  your   debut  how  did  you  come  in  contact  with  this  great label?


 I knew Comatose Music from when I ran Bloodsoaked Promotions as well as Bloodsoaked Records. A few different labels were interested in releasing my first album and I chose Comatose as I knew they promoted their bands well and thought they were going to be around for a while.


6. Peter  how  long   did  it  take  you   to  write  the  new  songs  on  the  new  cd  "Religious  Apocalypse" ?Where   do  you   draw  inspiration  for  your  lyrics?



 With the new album only having three new originals it actually took me a while.  Abomination took my months as I would keep coming back to it and things never seemed right.  Religious Apocalypse and Devouring came along sort of quick.  I'm a slow song writer anyway.  I don't write riff and songs nearly as much as I should but when I come up with something I like I make sure to put it down and remember it.


7.How  has  the   response   been  from  the  fans?What  about  the  press?


 The album will not be released till September 2nd so no response from the fans yet and the 1-2 reviews so far have been good.



8. Peter   you  have  a  couple  of  covers  on  the  new  cd  Shake Me{Cinderella}  and  Your  In  Love {Ratt}  when  did  you  decide  to  do  these  cover  songs?


  I grew up listening to Glam, Thrash and Death Metal.  I would go to a Motley Crue or Poison show one night and the next see Carcass and Napalm Death.  I wanted to do an all Glam cover album but Comatose didn't want to release it.  I chose some of the heavier Glam songs for the album and I am more than happy with the results.




9.You  also  made  a  video  for   the  title track   Religious  Apocalypse how  long  did  it  take  you  to  make  the  video?  Do  you  like  making  video's?  Any  plans  to  make  anymore  ?



The video was a 6 hour video shot and overall I'm happy with the video, not the best Bloodsoaked video but it's solid.  Yes, I like making videos, it's fun to go all out and see what the final result is. No plans on any other videos at this time but you never know.




10.I know  you   have  a  U.S  tour  coming  up  in   November   where  are  some  cities/towns you  will  be  playing?  Who  is  going  on  tour  with  you?




 The US tour is still being booked and headlining act is confirmed but unfortunately I can not disclose anything till the booking agent has everything is order.  It will be from the east coast to the west coast and mostly the southern states.


11. Peter   I  also  read  you  will  be  playing  Europe   in  2015   Where  are  some  places/countries  you  will be  heading  to?Who  are  some  bands  you  will be  sharing the  stage with?What do  you  think  is  the  biggest  difference  between American  crowds  and the European  crowds?



 Here again we are still confirming the support bands so we can't announce them as of yet.  We should be going to the same countries as we've been to in the past such as Germany, Poland, Netherlands, France, Belgium or Austria. Seems like the Europe fans are more supportive of all the bands on the tours even if they are no Death Metal.  We've had some Thrash and Metal Core bands tour with us and the Europe fans go crazy no matter what and support the bands in general. Also the venues overseas take care of the bands much better than the US venues.



12.This  is  your  third  time  playing  in Europe   where  have  been  some  of  your  favorite  places  you've  played? Are  their   any  countries  you  have  not  played  yet  that  you  hope to  play  someday?


 The Cave in Amsterdam is always the best. It's a small club venue but the fans always come out and pack the place and Ellen and Snook Bookings always does a great job promoting the show.  Plus it's Amsterdam so there is always a party after the show. I would love to play Italy, Scotland, Sweden and many others.




13.In  your  opinion  what  is  the  best and  worst  thing  about  the  underground? And  what  does  the  term  Underground  Metal   mean  to  you?


 The best thing about the underground is that it is "underground", Death Metal was never meant to be main stream. The great bands, fans, clubs and promoters are some of the best things.  It's also great to know that all the hard work put into the music pays of with gaining great fans. The worst thing is bands thinking they are entitled to headlining, getting paid, and so much more when they haven’t done anything.  Overall the underground Metal scene is the best, there are a few fuck-heads but they die off anyway.


14. Peter   you  handle  the  vocals  for  the  band  when  did  you  first  become  interested  in singing/growling? Do  you  do  anything   special  to  keep  your  throat/voice  healthy?


 I always wanted to do Death Metal vocals.  When I was playing in my Thrash band (Deslok) back in 1989 I sang backup vocals and would always growl. The other band members didn't like it but I wanted to bring a little Death Metal to the band. So when I started Bloodsoaked there was no way anyone else was going to growl but me... haha





15.Who   are  some  of  your   influences/favorite   vocalists? 



John Tardy (Obituary), Martin van Drunen (Pestilence), Bret Hoffman (Malevolent Creation) and first Deicide album Glen Benton.



16.You   also  handle  the  guitars  for  the  band  when  did you  first  become  interested  in  playing  the  guitars? Are  you  self-taught  or  did  you  take  lessons when  first  learning?


 I got a guitar when I was 15-16 and just started playing and picking up riff here and there.  I took lessons for maybe a month but didn’t learn anything as I wanted to play Metal and they were teaching me boring scales.  I just kept playing and learning Metallica songs and have my own style.  My style has not changed much in the last 25 years or so, I'm a guitarist not a musician... 


17. Peter   thank  you  for   taking  the   time  to  do  this  interview  do  you   have  any  final  comments   for   the  readers?

1.Hello   Henrik   when  did  you  first  meet  the  other  members  of   Deus   Otiosus  ?


“Hey man, our other guitarist Peter Engkjær is my brother so we’ve known each other always. Our drummer (Jesper Olsen) and bassplayer (Jesper Holst) I’ve met through him. But before that I met Anders Bo Rasmussen as we were writing for the same Danish metal magazine back in the days. Anders and I started Deus Otiosus as a studio project and recorded the demo like that with a session drummer. The albums we’ve done as a full band with only a couple of line-up changes.”






2.What   is  the   current  line up  for   Deus   Otiosus ? For  the  readers  who   have never  heard  Deus   Otiosus     how  would you  describe  the  music?




 “The current line-up is:
Anders Bo Rasmussen – Vocals
Henrik Engkjær – Guitars
Peter Engkjær – guitars
Jesper Holst – bass
Jesper Olsen – drums.
We’ve been so lucky to hold that line-up for the past two albums. I would simply describe it as old schooled death metal, but retaining our creative freedom. We are not bound by any rules but have our own personality and style.”



3.How  did  you  all  come  in  contact  with  Graham  and  Deepsend  Records? This  is  your  second  release  for  Deepsend  will you  work  with  them  for  the   next  releases?



 “We sent Deepsend an advance copy of our last album “Rise” and they responded quickly offering us a deal, so we agreed! We sent them a promo because we thought they had done a good job for other Danish bands and I think we found a good and fair deal. The deal is for the two albums “Godless” and “Rise”, so nothing is certain about the future. We’ll see!”




4.Deus   Otiosus      just  released  their  third  cd  "Rise"   how  long  did  it  take to  write  the  music  for  the  new  release?  Does the  whole  band  work  on  the  music  or does  one  member  usually  write  everything?



 “We have written the songs during 2 years. The was only 1,5 years between the recording of “Godless” and “Rise”, but the “Godless” recordings were delayed for half a year, so during this time, I was already writing for the next album. I have written all the music and most of the lyrics. But once the songs are written I bring them to rehearsals and we arrange the songs together as a band.”



5.Who   usually  takes  care  of  the   lyrics  for  the  band?How   has  the   response  been  from  the  fans  and  the  press?


“I have written most of the lyrics too. “Vultures” was written by our bassplayer, Jesper, though. The lyrics incorporate a wide range of themes from mythology, violence, war, history and philosophy but they are all gathered under the theme of the band: The sinister things that go on in a world unguided by any god and where mankind is left to fend for itself.”


6.Does   Deus   Otiosus      have  any tours  or  shows  planned  for   "Rise"  ?If  yes  where  are  some  places/countries you  will  be  playing?



“We have already been playing a mini-tour in Denmark as well as the Metal Magic Festival and a warm up show in Copenhell. But now we would like to come abroad and it would be cool to come back to Germany for example this year! We will announce later this what we will find out.”




7.Who  are  some  bands  you  all  have   shared  the  stage  with?  If you  could  set  up  a  dream tour/show  who  are  some  bands{past  or  present}  you would   love to  play  with?



 “We have played with bands like Exhumed, Sonne Adam, Corpus Mortale, Dawn Of Demise. I think the best bands today are Morbid Angel, Absu, Macabre, Melechesh, Entombed, Aura Noir and Grand Magus so it would be great to play with one or more of them! But it’s not too important who the other bands on the bill are, we just want to bring the fire and flame to the stage.”




8.What  does the    term  Underground Metal  mean  to  you?  


“Metal that is not within the mainstream. Usually a rawer, perhaps more old school sound. It’s a stylistic alternative. These days however I only think in two categories of music: Good and bad. There are some good (and mostly bad) bands both in the underground and mainstream categories.”



9.Henrik you  and  Deus   Otiosus      come  out  of  Denmark  what  is  your   opinion  of  Denmark metal  scene?


“Very many bands and very few fans! Does that sound familiar? I think it’s mostly like many other places, but not that many people are into metal in Denmark compared to our neighboring countries like Sweden and Germany. I suppose the Danish bands in general are not too successful in gaining attention abroad. Otherwise there are metal gigs all the time here in Copenhagen, but most of them are not that interesting and many suffer from poor turnouts.” 




10.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  bands  out  of   Denmark  ?Are  their  any  new  bands  you  feel  the  readers  should  check  out soon?



 “Well, like most other people I think the best Danish bands are Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. There’s really no surprise there. If you’re thinking of a newer/smaller band, you should give Strychnos a listen!”


11.Henrik  you   handle  the  guitars  for  the  band  when  did you  become  interested  in  playing  the  guitars?Are  you   self taught  or did  you  take  lessons  when  first  starting  out?


“I have taken lessons at one point, but mostly classical guitar. Metal I’ve taught myself. I’ve also played other instruments like drums back in the day, but I’ve only kept up
 with the guitar. I suppose I stuck with that instrument as it is the “song-writing instrument” for extreme metal. And I’m probably spending more time working on new songs than actual practice these days.”



12.Henrik  who  are  some  of  your  influence's/favorite  guitarist?Do  you   play  any  other   instruments?



“Not anymore, today I only play the guitar. That’s more than enough for me. Favorite guitarists? That’s pretty hard, anyone who can play a good song. But I must admit I find the duo of Tipton and Downing in Judas Priest to be unbeatable. When you listen to the leads of “Ram It Down” and “Painkiller” you know that you can never do just as good. So technique was not my way. I’ve tried to focus on writing some good songs instead. Not that Priest don’t have good songs too. They obviously have great ones!!”




13.Henrik   do  you   or  any  of  the  members  of   Deus   Otiosus   currently  work  with  any  other  bands? If  yes  please  tell  the   reader's  about  them?



 “Yes, but they are not really metal. Anders has an electronic project called Quatum and Jesper Olsen plays the drums in a rock band called Black Succubi. It should be easy enough to look them up I guess. The rest of us are focusing only on Deus Otiosus and that is more than enough for me!”



14.Henrik   what  do  you  enjoy  doing  in  your  free  time  when  not  working  on  band  stuff?




“Working and being a father. There’s not much time beyond that. In fact I’ve stopped most other free-time activities to focus the excess time that have on that which is my most important pastime: Writing music and playing in the band.”

1.Hello    Bardunor    when  did  you  first  become  interested  in  playing  music? What  was  the  first  instrument  you  learned to  play?


 I got into music in high-school when I got my first electric guitar. That’s when I started to create.




2.When did  you  get  the  idea to form  Hiverna? How  did you  come  up  with  the  name  for  the   project? For  the  reader's  who  have  never heard  Hiverna's music  how  would  you  describe  it?


Hiver means winter in French. This beautiful freezing season takes a big part of our years, here, in the north. The whole concept of snowy landscapes and frozen trees always stuck to the music that got out of my head. I would describe Hiverna as a blend between extreme northern music and Quebec’s folkloric music of old. 





 3.Hiverna   has  just  released  their  second  cd  "II Macabre"  how  long  did  it  take  you  to  write  the  music  for  the  new  release? Where  do  you  draw  inspiration  for  the  lyrics?




 I.Folklore and II.Macabre were both written between 2003 and 2006. At the time, I hadn’t the resources I needed to record and produce my music as I wanted it to be. Therefore, Hiverna became real much later. Hiverna is a project that reflects nature and the old ways, ideologically disagreeing with most of the choices made by modern man. Inspiration comes from the mountains, rivers and deep old forests.



4.  "IIMacabre   is  a  self released  cd  are  you   looking  for  a  label  or  do  you   prefer  to  keep  the  band  independent?How  has  the   response  been  from  the  fans? what  about  the  press?


 I’m used to do things myself and without constraints. My work now grows under a name: Oaken Forge. Though it’s not an industrial label, it gives me the opportunity to structure my released items under a single sigil. I must say I never was keen to do mass promo and such so I was amazed by the positive global response to Macabre on the Internet. Thanks to all the webzines and reviewers for the help!



5.Bardunor  how  do  you  feel   Hiverna's  music  has  changed   over  the   years?



As the music for Hiverna was written in my High-School years, all it got from aging (before it was released) was add-ons of some leads, some flute lines, some experimental sprees. The ideas and the core music stayed the same. As for the albums, I think the major change was the sound, which, in my opinion, got better on II.Macabre.





6. Hiverna  comes   out  of  the   Canadian  metal  scene  what  is  your   opinion  of  Canada's  metal  scene?


 Let’s say we are a little family. You have to understand that in Quebec, metal isn’t really carved in the traditions and global interests of the people. Our scene is much more alive out of our homeland.


7.Who   are  your  all time  favorite  Canadian  bands? Are  their  any  new  bands  you   feel  the  readers  should  check  out?



 I’d say Patrick Watson band. Amazing music. For the metal genre, I’d go for Martyr and old Cryptopsy. As for new projects, I’d tell you to check out Acedia from Quebec.




8. Bardunor   you   handle  the  vocals  for  the  band  when  did  you  first  become  interested  in  singing/growling?  Do  you  do  anything  special   to  keep  your  voice/throat  healthy?


 It may sound odd but I have to admit growling always came naturally for me. It began near the age of 12, when I realized I could imitate the vocalist of Dying Fetus. (I was more into Death Metal music at the time… teenagers)




9. Bardunor    are  you  or  any  of  the  members  of  Hiverna   currently   working  with  other  bands  or  solo  projects?


 For now, Froidure is travelling across the globe and Doom and me are thinking of maybe building a new live line-up for Hiverna for 2015. As for solo projects, you can go listen to Crépuscule (atmospheric/black metal), Demain Wendigo (Folk/Acoustic soundscape) and Ours (dark experimental music). 




10.When   not  working    on  band  music  or  promotion   what  do  you  enjoy  doing  in your   spare  time?


I am a teacher in Maths and Ethics in a northern school. I also do paintings, professional photography, writing, and I spend a lot of time in the forest.

MUSSORGSKI announce their new album for autumn !! (Dark/Black/Industrial Metal)

This autumn, MUSSORGSKI will be putting finishing touches on their third studio album, enigmatically entitled Creatio Cosmicam Bestiae. The whole record is to comprise seven brand new songs and an older track remixed. In total, there is to be about 45 minutes of music which the project leader, Khorzon, defines as follows:

'The new album has been assumed to be a stylistic continuation of Chaos And Paranormal Divinity; still, once demo versions of a few new tracks had been recorded it turned out the stuff was going to be much more experimental and diversified. I have always found it hard to define music on our releases but this time I may take the risk of claiming that it is going to be a conglomerate of dark metal, black metal, industrial and something I refer to as cosmic ambient. I guess it is going to sound mystical'.
