Interview with Boethiah done by Patrick

1.Hello Derek and Sean how are you doing this week? Please introduce yourselves to the readers?

Derek: I'm doing well. I Derek, The founder, bassist and drummer for Boethiah.

Sean :Thanks for the interview Patrick! My name is Sean, I'm 24, I'm a music fan first and foremost, and I love metal!

2.When did you first discover metal music and who were some of the first bands you listened to?Who are some of your current favorites?

Sean: I was around 10 years old. My next door neighbor's father was a huge metalhead, and showed me Black Sabbath, Maiden, the greats! My favorite bands are Death, Entombed, Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Incantation, Bolt Thrower. I love newer death metal bands like Anatomia, Blood Incantation, Spectral Voice, Ziggurat, and many more!

Derek: I was around 13 years old. Some of the bands were Slayer, Deicide and Megadeth.

3.When did you two first meet ?And was it long before you started the band?

Around 6 years ago, a mutual friend introduced us and that was that. Boethiah was originally a 4 member band, who played a few live shows, and released an EP in 2014. The band members moved on, and Derek invited me (Sean) to resurrect the band. And now here we are in 2018, with a full album!

4.How did you choose Boethiah as the name of the name and does it have a special meaning? And who would you say are the bands biggest influences?

The name comes from a popular game franchise called "The Elder Scrolls". Our biggest influences are Grave, Immolation, and Dismember.

5.Invocations Of The Xenolith is the bands debut release how long did it take you two to write the music for the debut?

It took us about 3 months to fully write and record the album. Derek had a few songs written, and I contributed some songs. We decided to make it a full length, and physically release it.

6.Where can the readers buy your debut cd?And does the band have any other merchandise available for the readers to buy?

Boethiah.bandcamp.com We made 100 CD's, with half currently remaining at this time. We plan to make some shirts in the future, and possibly tapes, patches, pins. For now, the music is the main focus.

7.Invocations Of The Xenolith is self released do you two prefer to work alone or would you like to find a label to work with someday?

We worked alone and self released, but, we are very interested in working with a label.

8.I know Boethiah is a two man band would you like to find new musicians to work with or do you prefer to work as a two man band?

As far as writing and recording, we prefer to stay a two piece. We both have the same vision and like how easy it is to work together. As soon as we can, we will find some live musicians to fill in and play some shows!

9.If you had the opportunity to work with any musicians {past or present} who would you two like to work with?

Sean: Chuck Schuldiner!

Derek: Ross Dolan from Immolation! We'd love to collaborate with our friend Jay in Humanity's End! (talking about it right now!)

10.Have you two started working on new music for the next release?

We never stopped working on music! The release process is continuous, and we're full of even more ideas now!

11.Besides working in Boethiah do either of you play in any other bands or solo projects?

Sean: Not currently in any other bands, although I may have something in the works.

Derek: Currently just focusing on Boethiah.

12.Besides death metal do you two listen to any other forms of metal or underground music? If yes what are some genres you listen to and favorite bands or artists?

Sean: Yes! We love all sorts of metal. Death, black, thrash, grind, traditional! I love Spectral Voice, Blood Incantation, Enespulcher, Humanity's End. Damien from Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sabrewulf from El Paso Texas!

13.When not working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

Sean: In my spare time, I write 1980s synthwave influenced music, practice drawing, and learn more about music production. I also love video games and reading.

Derek: I love to read, practice guitar and bass, and play video games

14.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thank you for this interview! Boethiah wouldn't have become a reality without our friend Eric, with his valuable insights and talents! Please share and spead our music if you like, and pick up a copy of our debut on bandcamp. If you're in the EU, please check with Dark Blasphemies Records soon!
