Interview  with  Mortillery  done  by    Patrick

1.Hello  when  did you  all first   meet  and  was  it  long   before you  all  decided to  start  the  band? How  did you  all  choose  Mortillery  as the  name  of the  band?

-Hi! Miranda and I (Alex Gutierrez) met in 2008 and later that year we decided to start a band, we jammed a couple times and wrote a couple songs and shortly after we met Cara. She decided to joing the band and became the first and only singer the band has ever had.
Kevin is our second drummer and joined in 2010, Kent joined in 2013 and became our third lead guitarrist in history. We spent some time lookig for a name and since we wanted a one word name we took the words Mortal Artillery (also a song on our first album) and turned it to Mortillery.

2.What  is  the  current  line-up  for the  band? Shapeshifter   is the  bands third  cd  how  would  you  say the  music  has evolved over the  years?

 Cara McCutchen – Vocals
Alex Gutierrez – Guitars/Vocals
Miranda Wolfe – Bass
Kent Quinlan – Guitars/Vocals
Kevin Gaudet – Drums
We feel like our music is more focused, we have showed growth and better song writing .

3. Mortillery   are  getting  ready to  release  the  band's  third  cd  " Shapeshifter"  does  the  whole  band take  part  in the  writing  process  or  does  one  member   usually  write  everything?

-We start with guitar and bass riffs, once we have a skeleton we add drums and finish the structure, after that we add vocals and fix any parts that need work so I guess we all get pretty involved.

4.Who    usually    writes  the  lyrics  for the  band  and  what  are  some  subjects  the band  writes  about  on the  new  release?

-At first i helped a lot with lyrics but for the last two albums Cara has done majority of the lyrics. We sing about war, biology, cryptids, natural disasters, chages within us, and all that cool stuff.

5.What   have  been  some   of   Mortillery's  most  memorable  shows  over the  years?

-I’d say touring with Sepultura is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to us.

6.Are  their  any  tour  plans  in  support  of  " Shapeshifter"  and  if  yes  where  are  some  countries the  band  will  be  playing?

-Yes! We will be in Europe from October 19 to October 31 with Suicidal Angels, Skull Fist, Evil Invaders. This tour will take us through Germany, Poland, Hugry, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Austria.

7.Has  Mortillery   ever  done  any  video's   for the  past releases?  Are their  any  plans  to  do  a  video  for  any  songs  off the  new  release?

-From our second album, „Origen of Extinction“  we did a video for „F.O.A.D“ and we have recently released a video for „Torture“ from our brand new album. We hope to release aother video soon!

8.Mortillery  comes   out  of  Canada's  thrash  metal  scene  what  is  your  opinion  of  the  thrash  scene  in  Canada?

-Its more of a underground scene than a genre specific one, we hang with punks and rockabillies just as much. Anything rock n roll goes you know. Its pretty fun becaus we have a tight community here!

9.Who   are  some  of your  all-time  favorite  Canadian    bands? And   are their   any  new  bands  you  feel  the readers  should  watch  out  for?

-Razor and Sacrifice are classic Canadian bands. Recently we’ve been playing with Gatekrashor and Riot City from Calgary Alberta, you gotta check them out.

10.In  your  opinion  what  does  Underground  metal  mean  to you?

11.When  not  working  on  new  music  or  band  business  what do you  all  enjoy  doing  in your  free  time?

-We’re all very different, our personal activities range from teaching yoga to gardening, from traveling to tattoing!

12.Thank  you  for  taking  the  time  to  fill  this  interview   out  do you   have   any  final  words  for the  readers?

-Thanks for this opportunity! See ya on the road!
