1.Hello please  introduce  yourself to  the readers?When  did you  first  discover  black metal  and  who were  some  of the first  bands you  listened  to?

 

Hello, We are a melodic black metal band based in Uppsala Sweden. I Know that we all discovered black metal in different stages of our existence. However you can never say that you did not were aware of the black metal evolution in the 90’s. The first bands that we listened to was the big ones of that time, both Swedish and Nowegian.

 

 

2.Nazghor  formed  in 2012 when  did you  first  get the idea  to  start this  band?And  who would you say are  some  of  Nazghor's  biggest  influences?

 

The idea for a black metal band was lurking inside all of us for a long time. It was when I met Armageddor when I finally could realize that goal.

 

 

3.Nazghor  signed to  Non Serviam Rec. for  the  new  release  how  did you and  the band  come in  contact  with  this  label?

 

We contacted the label after a tip from our brothers in Wormwood. They said that this is the one to work with for your upcoming album. It turned out to be the brightest move we have done in this matter.

 

 

4.Infernal  Aphorism is  the bands  sixth  release how  long  did it take  to  write  the music for the new release?

 

This record is the one that took most time to complete. The idea of a new record was there since the summer of 2016. We produced many melodies and parts for this one and we even made one song. But we started to build the rest of the songs in the beginning of 2017.

 

 

5.Who  usually  takes  care of  writing   the  lyrics  and  what are  some  subjects  written  about  on Infernal  Aphorism?

 

I write the lyrics. It is about to free yourself from the pollution that religions brings. We tell others that we are free due to the darkness that we study.

 

 

6.Besides  the  new  release  are  any of the bands  previous  releases  still available?Besides releases  is  their  any other  merchandise  available if  yes  where  can  the  readers buy  it?

7.Does Nazghor play  live  very  often?If yes  what  have  been  some of the bands most  memorable shows over the years?

 

Last year was a busy year for us since we did a lot of shows and one tour. This year we have done one show. The Polen/Germany tour and the show at the Kings of black metal 2016 is our most memorable shows.

 

 

8.Are  their  any  tours  or  shows  coming up in  support  of  Infernal  Aphorism?If  yes  where  will  the  band be  playing?

 

We have to upcoming shows in our hometown. Later in November we are traveling to some Balkan countries for the ‘Freezing Balkan tour’ together with our brothers in Wormwood an Rimfrost. That tour ends with a show in Sweden.

 

 

9.Do  you or  any of the members currently work  with any other  bands or  solo projects?If yes please tell  the readers  about them?

 

Our drummer is a man with many talents. He makes music in several projects, such as Unangel, Absumbra and Dead man’s revolution.

 

 

10.When  did you  first  become interested in  studying  occult  and  Satanism  subjects?

 

This question is difficult to answer. But we do it together during some of the meetings of the band.

 

 

11.Who  are  some  occultist  and  Satanists  you  like   reading  and  studying?Besides  these  subjects do you enjoy  reading or  studying  anything  else?

 

We believe that the most effective reading now days are texts from real active people. Other readings are on a personal base.  

 

 

 

 

12.Thank  you  for  taking  the  time  to  fill   this interview out  do you  have  any  final  comments  for  the  readers?

Interview with Devourer done by Patrick posted on 9-5-17

1. Hails, please introduce yourselves to the readers! When did you two first meet each other?

 

H: We got to know each other around the time Devourer formed. I wasn't involved in the band at the time, it was Falk and a guy named Kvist who started it and released the first demo, "Malignant". After the demo was released Kvist left Devourer and they both got involved in other projects so Falk put Devourer on hold. A couple of years later Falk and I played in a band called Panzerschreck and we started talking about playing black metal together so Falk decided to pick up Devourer again with me on vocals.

 

 

 

 

2. You two formed Devourer in 2002, what gave you the idea to start this band?

 

F: I didn't play in any other black metal band at the time but wanted to create the sort of black metal that I want to play and listen to so I had to start Devourer to do that. It still serves that purpose. Kvist started to get into black metal at the time and wanted to learn more about composing black metal so he sort of tagged along on the first demo, writing a couple of riffs and so but let me lead the project. Not that long after we released "Malignant" he asked me to join the grindcore band Radioskugga on guitar, which I did, and by doing so I later met Håf which was a perfect fit for both me and Devourer.

 

 

3. I believe Devourer is a two-man band, would you like to add more musicians to make a full line-up or do you prefer to stay a two person band?

 

H: We've talked about adding more band members to be able to do live performances and have some guys we could work with. It isn't planed at the moment though.

F: I can be a bit anal about my compositions sometimes so I prefer to play all the instruments myself when we're composing and recording but as Håf says we've talked to some guys about playing with us for live performances. It seems a bit pointless to rehearse for some local show performing for a crowd who don't really know Devourer but if a proper label supported us so we could go on tour that would be a different matter.

 

4. Across The Empty Plains is the bands newest release which will be released through Iron Blood & Death Corp. records. How did you come in contact with this great label?

 

H: They contacted us after we released the album online on our website, Bandcamp, YouTube and so on. Historically we've only released our stuff online without doing much PR at all since Falk and I used Devourer mainly as an experimental platform and a creative output in between other bands we've played in. This time was different though and Falk did a massive PR job to get some attention for the album.

 

5. How long did it take you to write the music for this release and do both members work on the music or do one member usually write everything?

 

H: This album took a very long time to complete because it was a turbulent time, I think I'll pass this over to Falk to elaborate.

 

F: I write almost everything but Håf's advice and musical ear is invaluable to me and his lyrics and vocal arrangements define Devourer as much as my riffs do. I also confide in a friend outside Devourer whose advice is also very valuable to me when I delve deep into my own musical world. I started writing the songs for Across The Empty Plains shortly after returning home after a lengthy stay in drug rehab. Eventually they gave up so now I get my drugs prescribed to me and get them from the pharmacy. It actually didn't take that long to write the music, a couple of months maybe, but when Håf was working on his contribution to the album I relapsed a few times and got so depressed that I had to stay in a psyche ward about one-third of the entire year of 2016. I had electroconvulsive therapy seven times or something like that and at one point my brain was so fucked up that I couldn't remember where I lived or who Håf was. I recognized his voice on the phone but that was it. My memories slowly came back to me and now I can at least take care of myself, stay at home by myself and write music, which is what I want to do. I've written about half an album now so it won't take as long until the next one is ready.

 

 

6. Who usually takes care of writing the lyrics for the band what are some topics written on Across The Empty Plains?

 

H: I write most of the lyrics and do the vocal arrangements. Falk writes some lyrics and sometimes we co-write songs, "Nexus Of Evil" and "Throne Of Agony" are two examples of that. Most of the lyrics revolves around death, the human psyche, a misanthropic view of the human collective along with occult and esoteric topics.

 

 

7. Besides the upcoming release do the band have any past releases still available to buy? Besides the new release do the band have any other merchandise available?

 

H: We haven't planned anything like that but if a label shows interest we're open for suggestions. We do not have any physical copies or other merchandise of earlier releases at the moment.

 

8. What does black metal mean to you all?

 

H: I think I'm speaking for the both of us when I say that black metal is important to us. Devourer isn't just black metal though, we have a lot of influences from other genres too and we don't want to limit ourselves by staying within a single genre.

 

 

9. Besides working in Devourer do either of you work in other bands or solo projects?

 

H: I play with Patronymicon and Sordid Flesh.

F: The last band I played with before totally fucking up my life and being forced into drug rehab was Sorcery. We've had a lot of good times together and we're still friends but in 2014 I was in too bad shape to continue playing with them so they asked me to leave the band. When I finally got my shit together a couple of years later and felt the need to start creating music again I saw an opportunity to put all my focus and energy on Devourer, and so I did and continue to do.

 

 

10. Devourer comes out of Sweden's black metal scene, what is your opinion on the Swedish black metal scene?

 

H: Sweden always had a strong scene and have been a part of shaping the sound but being one of the countries with the most metal bands per capita there is a lot of shit too.

 

11. Who are your all-time favorite Swedish bands? And are there any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for?

 

H: I can't answer that question since I don't keep an absolute favorite.

F: In my early teens I listened mostly to death metal but when Marduk released Opus Nocturne in 1994 that changed to black metal instead so they do have a special place in my record collection so to speak.

 

12. Besides bands are there any honest and reliable Swedish labels or distros you could recommend? And are there any good fan or web-zines you could recommend to the readers?

 

H: I can vouch for Cryptorian, Bifrost and Carnal records.

 

 

13: Thank you for taking the time to answering this interview, do you have any final comments for the readers?

Witchnight--Unholy  Speed Metal Mcd {Witches  Brew Rec.)

Witchnight are  a old school blackend speed metal  band  coming of Argentina.Unholy  Speed Metal  is  the bands debut Mcd featuring  three original  tracks  and  a  cover of  Retro Satans Planificado  La  Muerte.The  original songs  are  played  with a lot  of  aggressive blackend speed metal.The  guitars  are played with  a lot of  skill yet  extremely fast  guitars.The  drumming  is  played with  extremely tight yet  chaotic drum  patterns.The  vocals  are  raw  blackend  screams  that  fit the music  perfectly.If  you  are  a  fan  of  early 80's  speed metal with  early black metal influences  then  defintly  pick  up  Witchnight's  debut  today.

1.Hello  please  introduce  yourself  to  the  readers? When  did you  become interested  in  playing  music?

Hi, I’m Wouter and I’m the vocalist and guitar player of Celesterre: metal’s natural history unit. I’ve been a music addict for as long as I can remember, but seeing a concert of Elvis Presley on TV at the age of 9 was the sparkle for me. His show was so inspiring that I wanted to make music myself.


2.When  did  you first  get  the  idea  to  form  a  band? How  did you  decide  on Celesterre  as the name  of  the band?

Probably around the time when I got into hardrock and metal back in 1992. I’ve played lots of music with lots of bands before I started Celesterre in 2010. 

We made the name ‘Celesterre’ up ourselves, because it reduced chances of another band having the same name. The word ‘Celesterre’ means ‘the earth in all its splendour’, which is fitting since nature is the subject of all our lyrics. To us, the name stands for both construction and life as well as degradation and death. Both sides are equally important for the functioning of the planet and its organisms.

3.The  band  seems to  draw  influences  from  many  different  genres.  Who  would you  say are the  bands biggest  influences?

That’s a difficult question, because after so many years I don’t really have conscious musical influences anymore. I like a lot of different types of music and I’m probably influenced by a lot of artists. When writing music however, I’m just trying to find out what the song wants, which elements work and what I want the song to evoke. I’m not thinking about other artists or their works. As a listener I value spirit and intensity very highly, so that’s something by which I also judge my own music. Last but not least: the lyrics and music go together very much in Celesterre, so the lyrics/subjects often influence the music too. 

4.The Wild  is  Celesterre's debut  release  how  long  did it  take  the  band  to  write the music  for  the debut?

That’s not entirely correct: ‘The Wild’ is our debut full-length, but prior to this album we already released a demo (‘Celesterre’, 2012) and an EP (‘A Blooming Spring’, 2014). The music for ‘The Wild’ was written between 2013 and 2015, so it took approximately two years to write it


5.Who  usually  handles writing the  lyrics and  what  are some  topics you  wrote  about  on the debut  release?

I write all the music and lyrics for Celesterre. The lyrical concept of Celesterre has always been and will always be the natural world. The lyrics on ‘The Wild’ are about the different phases and trials that every organism goes through in life. Each phase or trial has been given its own song: birth (Burst Into Life), the relationship between organisms and their driving forces (Instinct), fighting and struggles (Ramfight At Sundown), love and procreation (Endure The Cold), finding your way in your environment (The Wild), feeding and hunting (Hunger),interaction with other organisms (The Pecking Order) and decay and death (A Celebration Of Decay).


6.Besides  the  debut  cd The Wild  does  the band  have  any  other  merchandise  available  for  the readers? If  yes  what  is  available and  where  can the  readers buy  it?

Our demo is sold out now, but the ‘A Blooming Spring’ EP is still available. Also, new shirts are being sold when you read this. All our music and merch can be bought at celesterre.bandcamp.com. ‘The Wild’ can of course also be bought via our label Rain Without End Records.


7.Does  the  band  have  any  plans to  make  a  video  for  any of the songs  off of the  debut? If you had  the  opportunity  to  make  a  video  for any  songs  off  The Wild  which  song  would you like to  see  made into  a  video?

There are no specific plans, but we are definitely open to the idea. All of our songs could more or less be soundtracks to wildlife documentaries, so if we had the opportunity we would make videos for all of them!    



8.Does  Celesterre   play  live  very  often? If  yes what  have been some of the  bands most  memorable  shows so  far?

Up to now we’ve done around 20 shows. We enjoy playing live, but since most of our shows so far have been local shows we try not to oversaturate the audience. A Celesterre show should remain a bit special. Our shows always have a very distinctive and intense atmosphere. Sometimes people just watch and applaud politely, but there have also been shows where I saw people totally getting into the atmosphere of the songs, sometimes completely in trance, or singing along with all the lyrics. Those moments are always very special to us as a small and relatively unknown band.   


9.Are there  any  shows or tours  coming  up  and if  yes  where  will  the band  be  playing? And  who  are  some  bands  you  will  be  sharing the  stage  with?

Yes, in November we will be playing in Rotterdam with Chilean doom gods Procession! Also Epitaph from Italy and Officium Triste from The Netherlands will be playing that night, so we definitely look forward to that one!




10.Besides  working  in  Celesterre  do  you or  any of the  members  currently work in  any other  bands  or  solo projects? If  yes  please tell  the readers  a  little  about them?

Floris, our guitar player, is also a member of an excellent band called Murw. They play a very unique style of atmospheric black metal. They released some great demos and two amazing albums (‘In de Mond van het Onbekende wacht een Oceaan’, 2007 and ‘Kanker’, 2011). Our bassplayer Lorenzo also plays in a Bay Area-style thrash metalband called Defazer and our drummer Tim also plays in a progressive groovy death/thrash band called Rages of Sin. They are all very good allround musicians, which is definitely an advantage for Celesterre.

11.When  not  working  on new  music  or  band  business  what  do you  enjoy doing  in your  free time?

Listening to other people’s music and studying everything in the field of natural history! We all share those two passions within the band. We like to go out into nature as much as possible, often together. We live close to the coastline and there are some very nice areas here.
