Winds Of Leng interview done by Patrick posted on 8-4-17
1.Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers? At what age did you first discover metal music?
JT- Josh, vocals and guitar. I was 8 or 9 years old.
2.Who were some of the first bands you listened to and who are some of your current favorite bands?
JT- For me it all started with Iron Maiden. After that I discovered bands like King Diamond and Danzig, and from there it was a pretty swift progression to death metal. Current favorites are Grave, Asphyx, Edge of Sanity, Dismember and pretty much anything from Dark Descent records.
3.When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you all formed Winds Of Leng ?How did you all choose Winds Of Leng as the name of the band and does it have a special meaning?
JT- The three founding members of the band met by playing together in a band immediately before Winds. After going through a few other members we found the third member of our current lineup. I came up with the name, but I honestly don't remember the exact moment. Nothing too special as far as meaning, we thought it fit us and the subject matter/mood the band often goes for.
4.What is the current line-up of the band?Who would you say are the bands biggest influences?
JT- Two of the founding members remain, Myself and DZ(drums, guitar, bass). Also AS(guitar, bass). Speaking for myself, the biggest influences for this band are the bands I mentioned above along with some black metal like Early Naglfar, Emperor, and Darkthrone.
5.Horrid Dominion is the bands debut release how long did it take the band to write the music for the debut release?
The bulk of the music was written in a few months time, but due to the band learning the recording process and recording it themselves the music was tweaked a little over time and the lyrics were written over a much lengthier period of time.
6.Who usually takes care of writing the lyrics for the music and what are some subjects you wrote about on Horrid Dominion ?
JT- I wrote all the lyrics for this one except for a little help from a friend on "Audrey". The themes on the album are all horror related and the album consists of songs inspired by some of our favorite books and films, and some of my own creations.
7.I believe Horrid Dominion is a digital release where can the readers buy the release? And are their any plans to do a physical release soon?
JT- Right now it is only digital. It is available on Bandcamp and most big online outlets. Yes there are plans for physical, First a limited Cassette run from Metalstrom Records and the band is working on a cd version.
8.Winds Of Leng come out Arizona's black, death metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Arizona?
JT- There's a lot of bands out there and a decent amount of shows. I think there's a lot of exciting stuff coming from AZ right now.
9.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Arizona and are their any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for soon?
JT- Can't say I have any personal all time favorites from AZ but again there has been a lot of good stuff here over the years. I know Deadspawn has something new in the works and that should be killer!
10.Does Winds Of Leng play live very often or do you prefer to work in the studio?Who are some bands you have had the opportunity to share the stage with?
JT- To date we have not played live but we just got a new rehearsal space and soon will be looking for people to round out the live lineup.
11.Are their any tours or shows planned in support of the debut release? If yes where wil the band be playing?
JT- Nothing yet, but that would be awesome.
12.What does underground metal mean to you all?
JT- Speaking for myself it is almost way of life, I've lived and breathed this stuff for many years and there's not much else I want to do. I think it is a highpoint of musical passion.
13.Besides working in Winds Of Leng do any of the members currently work in any other bands or solo projects?
JT- Currently no.
14.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
JT- Thanks for the interview and thanks to anyone who took the time to read and who takes time to listen. More to come!
