Interview with Reido done by Patrick posted on 11-9-19

Interview with Reido done by Patrick

1.Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers?
Hello. My names is Alexander. I’m a member of Reido, where I’m mainly responsible for guitars and vocals.

2.When did you first get the idea to form Reido and how did you choose Reido as the name of the band? What is the current line-up of the band?
The idea to form a band came about 20 years ago but the band was formed in spring 2002. We were students at that time. The name appeared later, after the first album was recorded. We were trying to choose something that matched the music and its atmosphere. I also wanted to have a short and simple name, easy to read and pronounce. I had been learning Japanese and had some dictionaries, so I looked through them hoping to find something. As a result, the band got the name Reido. The first track on “F:\all” was “Zero Level Activity”, so the idea of “zero temperature” turned out to be quite appropriate.
Currently there are three musicians in the band. Anton and I are the former members of Reido, whereas Dmitry joined us remotely to record the drums for the third album. He lives in Moscow, so we rarely see him. But we’ve been friends since 2006 probably. By the way, he has his own musical project, Vnezemie. Dmitry formed this word himself from Russian “Vnezemnoy” (Unearthly). So it’s something like “Unearthliness”. He completed the album “Raspad” (Decay/Fission) in 2015, but it wasn’t promoted properly, so very few people heard it. It’s some kind of cosmic funeral doom/dark ambient, and I can recommend checking it out.

3.Who would you say are Reido's biggest influences over the years? And for the readers who have never heard the band how would you best describe the bands musicial style?
It’s hard to name our biggest influences, the more so because they change from time to time. Funeral doom, traditional doom, dark ambient, the second album was partly influenced by Celtic Frost, Tool, Meshuggah. I can’t name any serious influences on the third album. I didn’t listen to much music in the period of working on it.
To those who have never heard the band I would say that it’s slow and heavy music. Probably, an extreme form of doom metal containing the elements of funeral, sludge, ambient and something else.

4.Anatman is the bands third full length release how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release? How long does it usually take to complete one song?
I suppose it took us 5-6 years to make “Anātman”. But we didn’t start it immediately after releasing “Minus Eleven” and finished last year, there were pretty long breaks during the record sessions, so as a result we have 8 years between the albums. Of course, if we only count the time we spent on making the album, it will be much less. Some songs are composed really quickly. If I catch some good idea, even one riff, it is often enough to make a song around it for several hours. However, sometimes I stop at some moment and don’t feel what to do next. Feeling the music and its spontaneous intuitive development is the main approach I use. If I stumble and begin to think how to continue this part, in most cases it means that the feeling left me. So I’d better stop and come back later in order to try and catch it again. Rarely does puzzling over music produce a good outcome.

5.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the music and what are some topics you all wrote about on Anatman?Which usually comes first the lyrics or the music?
The lyrics are written by me. “Anātman” is mostly based on Buddhist spirituality, as one can guess from the name of the album. This topic has always been present in Reido albums, but “Anātman” goes much deeper into it, since it became an especially important part of my life a number of years ago. In some lyrics I’m sharing some of my personal experience.

6.Besides the new release Anatman are the bands previous releases still available for the readers to purchase?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise to buy if yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?
I’m not sure if “F:\all” is still available on CD. Solitude Prod don’t have it at least. I saw some links in the Internet where it was on sale but didn’t check them. “Minus Eleven” is still available on the website of Solitude Prod/Slowburn Recs. We are considering some merchandise like T-shirts, because we received some requests from listeners so perhaps there will be something. Anyway, if something appears, it will be available on reido0.bandcamp.com.

7.Does Reido play live very often or do you prefer to work in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows over the years?
Reido has never played live. Every time we release an album, this question arises because we get some invitations from organizers. However, we could never recruit all the musicians we needed for a concert lineup. There were 2 members in the band but we needed at least 4 or even 5 and all the attempts failed for one or another reason. We were just unable to prepare in time.

Now we don’t even discuss the prospects of playing live, even though we have a drummer. He lives far from us. Maybe it would be nice to play a few concerts a year, I don’t know. Anyway, I wouldn’t like to go on tours for a series of concerts. I think that’s not my cup of tea.

8.Are their any shows or tours planned in support of the new release? If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will share the stage with?
Probably this question makes no sense after the previous answer

9. Reido comes out of the doom metal scene in Belarus what is your opinion of the doom metal scene in Belarus?
I’m not sure if there is a real doom metal scene in Belarus. Talking of old examples, I would name Gods Tower “The Eerie”, but it was many years ago. Some other Belarusian acts that I would like to mention are Woe Unto Me (doom death/experimental band from Grodno), Coat (trad/stoner doom in the vein of Electric Wizard), Longa Morte (funeral project in the vein of Thergothon) and doom death/funeral act Fading Sun with its EP “Yawning Void”. I think they are worth checking out. I don’t know what else to mention.

10.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Belarus and are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?
I can’t name all-time favorite Belarusian bands but apart from the above mentioned projects I would like to recall black metal bands, such as Pestilentia, Kruk, Niezgal, black-death project Doomslaughter. These are good examples of underground metal and they all have the true spirit of such music.

11.Besides Reido do you any of the members currently play in any other bands or solo projects?
No, we have no other projects.

12.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
Thank you for the interview. Just listen to our “Anātman” if you haven’t done it yet. I think it’s worth checking out. That’s all I wanted to say.

Interview with Paganizer done by Patrick posted on 11-7-19

Interview with Rogga Johansson vocalist, guitarist of Paganizer done by Patrick

1.Hello Rogga how are things in Sweden this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?
Autumn is here and winter pproaching, so its getting cold, and windy. Perfect weather for making metal i guess. Well Im ROgga Johansson and I do quite a few bands, been doing music since the early 90s, mostly metal. i guess thats an introduction as good as any haha.

2.When did you first start listing to metal music and who were the first bands and artists you listened to?Was it long before you discovered death metal music and who were the first death metal acts you listened to?Who are some current bands that have caught your attention?
When I was a kid, maybe around 6 or 7, I got hooked on heavy metal from older friends. I got copies tapes from them, and there was also cassettes you could borrow at the library. The bands were the classics like Iron Maiden, Accept, Judas Priest and stuff like that, then after a little while also stuff like Twisted Sister and WASP. I was around 7 when I got my first own vinyls, Iron Maidens Killers and Kiss Love gun, needless to say the Kiss album didnt get much play compared to the Iron Maiden album. I discovered more extreme metal when I got into my teens, first thrash like Kreator and I discovered one of my fave albums too SODs Speak english or die. When it went onto death metal the first bands I really got into was Massacre and Dismember. As for surrent bands, I dont have the best knowledge there haha, I usualy listen to my old things, aswell as when the old bands release new albums.

3. Rogga you started Paganizer back in 1998 when did you first get the idea to start this band?
We started in 1994 as Terminal Grip, and then we changed name to Paganizer in ´98 as we changed some members. Oh I dont know how I got the idea haha, I mean I recall coming up with the name, and at the time I played more industrial type music, and just wanted to move into making death metal stuff myself, this was in my later teens. I had some bands before, but not doing death metal, as I also listened to industiral music and crut punk a lot.

4.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and have they remained the same over the years? For the readers who have never heard Paganizer's music how would you best describe it?
I guess the biggest influences are Massacre and Grave. aswell as Hypocrisy and Vomitory. but I dont know if you actaully hear that in our music though. Paganizer plays fairly simple death metal, with hooks so you can remember the songs I hope, but we are not very melodic. I dont think we sound like the regular swedeath stuff much, we are a bit different, but I dont know really in what way haha.

5.The Tower Of The Morbid is the bands newest full length release how long did it take to write the music for the new release?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or do you usually write everything? How long does it usually take to complete one song?
I dont know really, I guess we worked on the album for maybe six months, rehearsing once a week and then recording during a couple weeks. The whole band does take part in adding their stuff, the drummer comes up with the drums, the lead guitarist does his solos and such but I write the songs mostly. This time Martin the bassplayer wrote a song, its the one last one the album, the fastest one. Usually I write a song during just like fifteen minutes or so, but then it ofcorpse can chnage a bit, and then we play it in the rehearsal room, where we figure out the drums and where to put the solo parts and things like that.

6.Besides the The Tower Of The Morbid release are the bands previous releases still available?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available if yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?
In this internet age I guess all previous releases are available at different websites, some of them maybe just used, but then again you can often find old releases new too. We have merch for the previous album aswell as the new album, really cool stuff like tshirts and ziphoodies, just swing by the Transcending Obscuirty bandcamp and check it out.

7. Paganizer comes out of Sweden's old school death metal scene what is your opinion of Sweden's death metal scene over the decades?
I think the swedish scene is the best one, most my fave bands are swedish. Ofcorpse the US scene has some great bands too, aswell as the british and german scenes, but to me the swedish stuff is closest to the heart I think. And I think it still is a great scene, I know lots of new bands come out all the time, and from the stuff I hear they always sound good too.

8.Who are your all-time favorite Swedish metal bands and are their any new bands that have caught your attention?
I would say Edge of Sanity is the fave band, cloesly followed by Hypocrisy. I also totally love Furbowl, wich is a very underrated band. Graves first albums are also among the faves aswell as the first few Vomitory albums. As for new bands I dont know... i hear a song here or there and it always sounds great.

9.What does underground metal mean to you?
I guess it means that you dont do anything just because it could sell, or make you get to play more shows or whatever. Basically that you do what you want, and not try to do something just because you think it would make you successful. theres nothing wrong with commercial metal, if the persons making it also like what they are doing. I mean its their thing, but if you do it just to be successful I think its rather shitty.

10.Besides working in Paganizer I know you have some other bands and projects you are currently working with. Please tell the readers about your current bands you are working with?
Oh its too much haha. But yeah I have a few, some old ones like Dead Sun wich I started back in the 90s, where I play more melodic stuff, like old Tiamat or Lake of tears sorta. Then i have a few projects together with friends, people who I love the vocals from, like The Grotesquery with Kam Lee, Johansson & Speckmann with paul Speckmann and Down among the dead men with Dave Ingram. I have various other stuff too like Eye of purgatory, Ribspreader, Revolting and more, as I simply write too much music haha.

11.Rogga as mentioned earlier you have been a part of the underground scene since the early 90's so I was curious did you read a lot of fanzines back in the day? What were some of your favorite fanzines that you read back in the day?
Ah yes I love reading about music, and tried to get my hands on fanzinesas much as I could. It was a long long time since I gave them away or sold them though, so I dont remember the names really, but it was stuff like Nekrologium and Nordic vision I think and many many others. But after the internet boom eventually all of them went away, and since then Ive just kept reading online aswell as getting the few official bigger metal magazines that are or were around, like Terrorizer, Close-up and Sweden rock magazine.

12.Are their any current fanzines that have caught your attention?Do you read any web-zines these days?
Nothing in physical form no, as for webzines I usually check them out when I get a link to a review of some of my stuff, then I browse around and check out the rest too. I read both metal zines aswell as industrial music zines online, aswell as naturally the more tabloid stuff like Blabbermouth and Metalsucks, just to keep in the loop a bit.

13.Besides fanzines I know tape trading was a big part of the underground back in the 80's and 90's did you ever do much tape-trading?
Actually i didnt do any tape trading, I live in a small village, and the way i got music was from catalouges from the metal shops in Stockholm. So I never got into tapetrading at all.

14.What were some of your favorite demo's and releases that you traded for?
As mentioned above, it wasnt something I did at all back then, I didnt even know it was a thing haha.

15.When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time with my family, just doing normal stuff, playing with the kids or watching movies or series with them. Or be out in the playground, or get out when they ride their bikes. I like listening to music too, other bands music haha. And having a few beers too, and firing up the barbeque, even if its snowstorm. When youre swedish you cant be bothered with the weather too much haha.

16.Thank you Rogga for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
Thanx man! Yeah, check out the new Paganizer album and the merch at Transcending Obscuritys bandcamp, if youre needing some quality ugly music!

Interview with Matt Guitarist and vocalist of Sentient Horror done by Patrick posted on 10-25-19

Interview with Matt Guitarist and vocalist of Sentient Horror done by Patrick

1.Hello Matt  how are you doing this week? Please introduce yourself  to the readers?

Hey everyone! Everything is going well here.

2.When did you first start listening to death metal music and who were the first bands you heard?Who are some of your current favorite bands?

I think the first old school band I properly listened to was Death. I started with Sound of Perseverance and worked backwards. After that it was Carcass, Gorefest, and then eventually the Stockholm scene with Entombed and Dismember. I was into the Polish bands for a while at the beginning, like Vader and Decapitated, but I don’t listen to them so much anymore. My current favorites are still the classics as I mentioned, Death and Carcass, but another big favorite is Edge of Sanity. But if you mean current as in newer bands, I really enjoyed the last Necrot and Gatecreeper records.

3.Matt you started Sentient Horror 2014 when did you first get the idea to start this band? How did you choose Sentient Horror as the name of the band?

Well, we were originally called “Sentience” but after we were signed to Testimony Records, they discovered another band named Sentience and asked us to change it, so I thought “Sentient Horror” was a good modification. It retained some of the original name, and also maybe sounded a bit more “death metal” anyway.

4.For the readers who have never heard Sentient Horror's music how would you best describe the band musicial style?Who would you say are the bands biggest influences?

I would just say we are an old school Death Metal band, but of course that can mean a lot of different things these days. I would say our main death metal influences are the early Stockholm bands, like Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, etc. mid-era Carcass, early Death, and Edge of Sanity, maybe a bit of Gorefest. I think if you mixed all that together, its a good idea of what Sentient Horror sounds like!

5.Morbid Realms is the bands second full length release how long did it take to write the music for the new release? How long would you say it usually takes to complete one song?

I think I got the bulk of the songwriting done in just a few months, maybe four months total, if you account for some weeks I took off here and there, plus we went on tour towards the end of the writing. I read in an interview with Blakkheim from Bloodbath that he feels good death metal should be very spontaneous and not over-thought, so I took that to heart and try to write the riffs as fast as possible. If I feel it right away I keep it, if I don’t, I throw it out. I think the average song takes me a week to finish everything, and that is just writing in my spare time.

6.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the music and what are some topics written about on the new release?Which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?

I write all of the lyrics and I write 90% of the music (sometimes our rhythm guitarist Jon sends me some riffs to use). As usual, the lyrics are horror themed, but this time around there are a few more that sit more in the otherworldly realm, as I was reading some Clive Barker and HP Lovecraft for inspiration. The music comes first, then the song titles. Then I match the song titles I came up with to what I think fits best musically, and I write the rest of the lyrics from there.

7.Besides the upcoming Morbid Realms release is the debut release still available for the readers to purchase?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available if yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?

I think Ungodly Forms is still available on CD from both Testimony Records in Europe and Redefining Darkness in the US, but as far as I know, the vinyl is all sold out. We also have some t shirts, long sleeves, and patches, but again, you will need to see what stock our labels’ websites have. Or come see us live and buy directly from us at a show!

8.Has  Sentient Horror played very many live shows over the years? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows over the years?Who have been some of your most favorite bands that you have gotten to share the stage with?

Yeah, regionally we were doing roughly one show a month, around the northeast US, and then we did a two-week tour of central Europe last October with our Testimony Records label-mates Carnal Tomb. I’d say most of my most memorable shows we did were on that tour, I think my favorite being the one we did in Hamburg. That might have been the largest crowd we’ve ever played for that were there specifically to see us. The Carnal Tomb guys were super cool to tour with, and I feel like we made some friends for life there. Theres a few bands I really like playing with around the Northeast. I really liked playing with Scorched, Horrendous, and I really like doing shows with the grind band Die Choking.

9.Are their any tours or shows planned in support of the new release if yes where will the band be playing?

No tour planned yet, but we are working on shows in the NYC/NJ area to support the release.

10.What does Underground Metal mean to you?

The true spirit of metal. Metal’s roots, specifically extreme metal, are in the underground. It’s not supposed to be for everyone, and it’s not supposed to be easy listening. But when its done well, it can be a very complex, deep, and sophisticated art form.

11.When you need you take a break from working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

I really enjoy spending time with my wife, watching movies, I’ll play some video games (I just started up the HD Resident Evil remake for Halloween month), and of course, I still play tons of guitar. I try to practice somewhere between 2 and 3 hours a day.

12. Sentient Horror comes out of New Jerseys death metal scene what is your opinion of New Jersey's death metal scene?

To be honest, I don’t really pay attention that much, unless we are gigging. There are a lot of bands that do the slam/brutal thing in NJ, and we don’t really fit in with that crowd. There are some really cool bands we’ve played with though, like Sapremia from South Jersey, I think those guys are awesome, and legit old school.

13.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of New Jersey and are their any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for?

My guitar-nerd side is going to show with this answer, but it would have to be Symphony X. As far as newer bands… not specifically from NJ, but in general, the bands I’ve mentioned earlier: Necrot, Gatecreeper, Scorched, Horrendous, Carnal Tomb, those are some of my favorite newer death metal bands to listen to.

14.Matt you handle the vocals for the band when did you first start singing and growling?Do you do anything special to keep your voice and throat healthy?

I started doing growls just for fun, like in the car, sort of a “lets see if I can do this” type of thing, and then I just got better and better at it. Nowadays, I do a 12 minute warm up every time I do vocals, no exceptions. I got it from the DVD Zen of Screaming, and I attribute that to keeping my voice in good shape.

15.Who are some of your favorite vocalists?

If we are talking Death Metal (in no order): Dan Swanö, John Tardy, Martin Van Drunen, Mikael Akerfeldt, Matti Karki, LG Petrov, Jan-Chris De Koeijer, Chuck Schuldiner, Jeff Walker. If we are just talking metal singers in general, then Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Jeff Scott Soto, Jill Janus, Warrel Dane, King Diamond, Mats Leven, Robin McAuley…

16.Besides the vocals you also handle the guitars when did you first become interested in playing the guitars? Are you self taught or did you take lessons when you first starting out?

I’ve been playing guitar since I was 13. I had some lessons when I started, but for metal technique, I am mostly self taught in my formative years, but I also had private lessons from Joe Stump during my two semesters at Berklee.

17.Who are your influences and favorite guitarists?Besides the vocals and guitars do you currently play any other instruments? Are their any instruments that you would like to learn one day?

Its of course changed a bit through the course of my life, but these days I’d say, in no order: Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, Bill Steer, Chuck Schuldiner, Andy Larocque, Vinnie Moore, and Marty Friedman would be the main ones I am currently inspired by the most.

18.Thank you Matt for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thanks for reading the interview, and don’t forget to check out “Morbid Realms” on November 29th!!

Mortuary-- The Autophagous Reign cd{Xenokorp} done by Patrick posted on 10-19-19

Mortuary-- The Autophagous Reign cd{Xenokorp}
France's Mortuary will unleash their latest release in early November. The Autophagous Reign features fourteen tracks of aggressive thrashing death metal at it's best. The vocals are a mix of gruff old school death metal growls and some gruff screams are used in some of the songs. The guitars are played with a lot of speed and well written and performed guitars patterns. The guitarist adds some well played and written solo's and passages. The drums are done with a lot of skill and power mostly played with fast drum patterns but do slow to a more calm and mid paced drum pace.If you are a fan of extremely aggressive thrashing death metal then be sure to pick up a copy of The Autophagous Reign when it is released in November.

Interview with Tales Of The Tomb done by Patrick posted on 10-19-19

Interview with Tales Of The Tomb done by Patrick
{Answered by Corey S.}

1.Hello how are things going in Canada this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Things are going good the weather is changing, however! About to start getting really cold. Good for writing metal! We are Tales of the Tomb from Edmonton, Alberta Canada! We write about how reality is scarier then fiction and our song contents range from serial killers, aliens and conspiracy theories.

2. Tales Of The Tomb was started in 2013 when did you first meet the other members of the band? How did you all choose Tales Of The Tomb as the name of the band?

How I met the dude I started the band with, the original vocalist, was from a mutual friend inviting him to party and drink with us. The original vocalist got way too drunk and he passed out on my couch. Not knowing him too well at the time I was not letting some goofball I barely knew sleep on my couch! So the mutual friend and decided to carry his drunk ass back to his place since he only lived a couple of blocks away thankfully!

How I met Trez the current lead guitar player was from working at the same music store here in Edmonton called Axe Music. I was working in sales when he started as a guitar teacher. I actually had him join a different band I was in at the time called These Colours Don’t Run(Tales wasn't a thing yet). So when Tales needed another guitar player he was the first homie I called on since we had worked in TCDR together.

We choose the name Tales of the Tomb because we wanted something that represented what our songs were going to be about. Tales of the Tomb represented this perfectly. The stories we are retelling are those from people who have passed by extreme means. Thus we are trying to in some case bring their stories back from the grave or keep them from being forgotten.

3.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and for the readers who have never heard the band how would you best describe the musical style?

The band's biggest influence has been the murder metal band Macabre. Tales started from Me and the original vocalist wanting to start writing metal songs for fun when we would hang out. We were listening to a lot of Macabre at the time so when we were thinking of what to write lyrics about we choose serial killers. We thought its more interesting to write about real-life situation then try to come up with fanatical extreme situations off the top of our heads. So we tried to stick to real-life or with this EP allegedly real things to write about. We like to try and be diverse with our songs and style. We mostly do have a death metal sound. There are a lot of elements of thrash in our music as well. Since Trez joined the band he has also brought an awesome tech sound to the band which is present in Dyatlov Pass Incident and The Nightmare Hall. Which were the first songs Trez contributed too since the other songs we actually have written a while back some alongside the songs of our first EP.

4.Volume Two:Mendacium is the bands newest EP.how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release? How long would you say it usually takes to complete one song?

It took us a long time to finish everything for the EP. As mentioned in the last response songs like Faul, Mermaid in a manhole, 911, and Sinful Messiah were written early on when the band started. Before we even decided to have a conspiracy based EP. We decided to write Dyatlov Pass and Nightmare after thinking of a common theme for the songs we had which we were conspiracy theories and wanted to write a couple more songs based on that to have a longer EP for this release.

Every song is different some songs come together quickly and others take what seems like forever to finish. The intro and outro riff on Mermaid in a Manhole, the EP bonus track, was actually a riff we had for a while, months or maybe even like a year before we finally stuck with other riffs we came up with to go along with that one riff. 911 we finished quite quickly though. We were invited to play the final show of a local thrash band in Edmonton called Villinizer. They were a “terrorist metal” group that had songs about such matters. So we wanted to have a more thrash song to play for that show and since Villinizer had songs like “Twin Tower Two-Step” so we thought 911 would be a good topic for the song we were working on for that show.

5.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the music and what are some of the subjects written about on Volume Two:Mendacium ? Which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?

The music will usually come first. Every member of the band has had some influence or say on the lyrics we write. I would probably say that there still isn’t just one person only working on the lyrics. Trez and I being guitar players we will usually write guitar riffs ourselves then bring them to practice and try to mash them together. The same goes for lyrics but I find that we usually have to push ourselves to sit down to write lyrics being guitar players after all.

The overall theme of this new Ep is conspiracy theories. That is why we choose the Latin word Mendacium for the title. Which translates from Latin to falsehood or to be told an untruth or lie. Some of the songs on the Ep range from standoffs between cult leaders and the ATF, the terrorist attack on New York (911), and even the rumor that Paul Macartney died in the ’60s and was replaced with a look-alike.

6.Besides the Volume Two:Mendacium release are the bands previous releases still available to purchase? Other then physical releases does the band have any other merchandise available for the readers if yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?

Yes our first ep Volume One: Morpas is available for digital download on our band camp. We have no physicals left for that one atm. We do have a range of other merchandise people can purchase off our band camp from shirts, patches, posters, pins, and stickers. We also released a guitar tab book for the new EP which you can order off the Bandcamp.
https://talesofthetomb.bandcamp.com/

7.Does the band get to play live very often or do you prefer working in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows over the years?

Not so much anymore as we only have two members. It's a long term goal to find members and start playing again. So right now we are just a studio band or “internet” band for lack of a better term.

The most memorable show for the band would have to be opening for the band that started it all. We were lucky enough to open for Macabre in one of the best venues in the city called The Starlite Room. That was an epic night for us.

8.Are their any tours or shows planned in support of the new release? If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will be sharing the stage with?

No tours planned sadly. We do have an album release show going on Nov 30 in our home town of Edmonton. We are doing a dual CD release show with another awesome band from Calgary called Third Chamber. The headliner for the show is the massive death metal entity Eye of Horus from Edmonton, as well as some other local heavy hitters Bram Stem(Edmonton) and Murk(Calgary).

9.What does Underground Metal mean to you?

Underground metal is our life! Thats, why I work in a music store here in Edmonton. Trez is also a guitar teacher in Camerose where he lives. Music is our life and Trez and I have worked hard to make sure that our lives are constantly enveloped in music. We both have tried to choose career paths that will allow us to focus on music with the amount of attention when want to give it. It's hard to justify to your boss taking 2 weeks off to tour when your work for Safeway or BMO lol. So to answer that question underground metal is everything to us. I couldn’t imagine what we would be doing if we didn’t pick up guitars.

10. Tales Of The Tomb comes out of the Canadian death metal scene what is your opinion of the death metal scene in Canada over the years?

Canada has a great metal scene. Especially here in Alberta, there are tons of awesome diverse bands that are all full of awesome people. Which can kinda make it hard to find players who are not currently in 4 bands to get to join your band!

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of the Canadian metal scene? And are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Some of the awesome bands from our local that the readers should check out are Protosequence, Valyria, Culled, Begrime Exemious, Idoltry, Eye of Horus and Infinitee to name a few. Some of the bands that we don’t share a hometown with that we really enjoy are Resurgence, Becomes Astral, Afterearth, Dayone. There's really too many to name them all!

12.When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

I'm pretty into shredding video games, I'm a huge fan of the games Borderlands and Bloodborne. If anyone reading this knows the image and theme of that game is metal as fuck! When Trez isn’t shredding his fretboard off or learning some Japanese or weird-ass guitar scale he works on RC cars tweaking them so they shred rubber on the road.

13.Besides working in Tales Of The Tomb do any of the members currently play in any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

Yes, Trez has a really cool electronic Dent project called Infinitee where he rips some 8 string guitar madness. Do check it out!

Interview with Vultur done by Patrick posted on 10-6-19

Interview with Vultur done by Patrick

1.Hello how are things going in Greece this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hello Patrick. I am George the guitarist of Vultur. Things are going very well here in Greece. Thank you for this interview and the opportunity to have a talk with each other.

2.When did you first start listening to death metal music and who were some of the first bands you discovered?Who are some of the current bands that have caught your attention?

I was start listening to death metal around 15-16 years old. I remember my favorite band back then was Obituary and Death. It is a little bit foggy who was the first band that hook me into the genre but it was one of those two band for sure. Two of the recent bands that I like is Galvanizer “Sanguine Vigil” and Reveler “The Hour of Fright”. Pure death metal both of them.

3.Vultur was started back in 2013 are you satisfied with how things have progressed with the band over the years? For the readers who are not familiar with the band's style how would you best describe the bands sound and style?

Considering the lineup changes, i think i am satisfied with the progress. This band is for 6 years in life and we have two full length albums. I will be very happy if in the next 6 years we have another two. The sound and style of Vultur coming from the 90’s era of classic death metal. We love this era and we will keep this style till the end of Vultur. For some people this is not good for the future of the genre but how cares? We are not pioneers and we don’t want to be. We love old school death metal and we will keep supporting it and keep it alive as long as we can.

4.Drowned In Gangrenous Blood is the bands second full length release how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release? How long does it usually take to complete one song?
I think it was a year or little more. I had some ideas of course before we begin to compose of the songs but the hall process was about a year. We don’t want to make to many changes after the initial structure of the songs because we don’t want to loose the very first feeling of the moment capturing the idea. I don’t really know how long takes me to wright one songs. Some time it can be ready in two or three days and some time even a month. Depends of the mood or the workload I have to do.

5.Besides the upcoming Drowned In Gangrenous Blood release are the bands previous releases still available for the readers to purchase?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available if yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?

Yes, we have some copies of the demo and the “Entangled In The Webs Of Fear” album. Both only in cd format. If anyone want something he can contact with us through our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/vulturathens) or email us at vulturathens@gmail.com.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any t-shirts right now but we are planning to make some new ones in the near future.

6.Does Vultur play live very often or do you prefer working in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows so far?Who have been some of your favorite bands to share the stage with?

No, we don’t play very often live but this is not because we don’t want it. We had a lot of line up changes and we had the problem with the military obligations of our bassist (George Wolf). Here in Greece it is compulsory to serve the military for one year. I know it sucks but we live in a shitty world. The most memorable show it was when we played with the mighty Incantation and or brothers in crime Ectoplasma in summer of 2018. It was great show in any aspect. As for who is our favorite bands to share the stage it is so many but I will mention some. I think Rapture and Violent Definition is two bands that we have to share the stage soon because we are close friends and we love their music. Very energetic bands both of them.

7.Are their any tours or shows coming up in support of Drowned In Gangrenous Blood? If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will share the stage with?
We are planning some gigs but I don’t have any dates or names to give you Patrick right now…

8.What does underground metal mean to you?
Underground metal is the home the mother of the metal genre. Is the place for the purest form of metal and this is the way it should be. Only in the underground you can feel the real brutality, agony and fear of the musicians who want to express. You know underground metal is huge and of course there is garbage out there and you have to dig deep to find the diamonds but it is a creative prosses and I really like it that way.

9. Vultur comes out the Greek death metal scene what is your opinion of the death metal scene in Greece?
Death metal scene in Athens is in a very good state now. We have awesome and true metal warriors here who really love what they doing and doing it with passion as it was in the 90’s. I don’t know why but for some reason trends in Greece does not survive for long time. That’s why death metal is still very alive here.

10.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming of the Greek death metal scene and are their any new bands you could recommend to the readers?

One of my all-time favorites Greek bands is Inveracity. I love their Suffocation style and the way they change the tempos on the songs. Also, I must say Mass Infection and Dead Congregation. Both are favorite band to me not only from Greek scene but in general. Also, one newly born band (2017) with a very good essence to death metal is Chaos Heresy. You have to check them they are awesome.

11.Besides working in Vultur do you or any of the members currently work with any other bands? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

John Grim the vocalist is also vocalist and bass player with Ectoplasma alongside with George Wolf in the guitars. As for me I am working on a side project called Φορμόλη. Φορμόλη means formol in Greek. It is a mixture of punk grind and death metal and it sounds very interesting and fresh.

12.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
Thank you again Patrick for this interview and a big thanks to all metal maniacs out there who are truly support the metal music. They are keeping it alive sick rotten and deadly.

PS. Kill the posers.

Interview with Jim R. vocalist and instruments of Empire Of Hate done by Patrick posted on 9-17-19

1.Hails Jim how are things going in Greece these days? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hails Patrick and thank you for the interview the things are going quite good here in Greece , so I’m Jim I play all the instruments in my one man band call Empire of Hate and also playing bass for Nachtfrost.

2.When did you first discover black metal and who were some of the first bands you listened to?Are their any current bands that have caught your attention?

If I remember right I was fifteen or sixteen when a friend of mine recommend me some bands and give a somberlain cassette so then I discover Immortal Windir Darkthrone Emperor you now the classic stuff , the last year I listen a lot atmospheric black metal bands like Pure Wrath (a really awesome band from Indonesia) Thy light, Cult of Fire , Grima.

3.When did you first get the idea to start Empire Of Hate and are satisfied with how things have progressed with the band so far?How did you choose Empire Of Hate as the band name?

Well the idea of a black metal project was running into my mind since I first heard this music but the ignite which gave it flesh and bones was an argument with my past thrash metal band where I played the guitar, eventually we split up and then the idea of making that project real and the name of the band came up (I was full of rage those days) and became this which is now Empire of Hate. I can tell that Im really happy with the progress of the album especially if you think that this my first record ever.

4.Jim I believe you are the sole member of the band did you plan to work alone or would you like to find more musicians to make a full line-up?

I was thinking of having a full line up but this will be only for a few shows but for the studio work I shall keep it personal and work alone.

5.What do you feel is the easiest and hardest part about being a one man band?

You know when you are alone some things can be faster and easier you are just record your songs without waiting some that came late in studio for example and the pressure its less I can tell but in the other hand when the music isn’t your main job the cost of production can be really high.

6.The Ancient Mysteries is the debut release how long did it take you to write the music for the debut release?
Except the Sysyphus that was one of the first songs that I ever wrote the rest of the album took one year to write it but I had some previous ideas.

7.Where did you draw inspiration for the lyrics and what are some topics and subjects you wrote about?

You know in Greece even the smallest village has at least an Ancient ruin so the inspiration came from the things that surround me the tails the ancient myths and History I used some of them as the theme in the album lyrics such as the Sysyphus ,Prometheus and Pandora’s box myths.

8.I believe the debut release is a digital-release are their any plans to do a physical release soon or do you prefer digital releases these days?Where can the readers buy the debut release?

To say the truth I believe that must be an equilibrium between digital and physical copies I believe that the music must be free for everyone so here the digital helps more the physical copies in the other side when someone wants to support a band can buy the physical copy and add it in his collection , I have made some copies that can be found in the bands Facebook page and Bandcamp in digital and physical form.

9.Besides the debut release The Ancient Mysteries are their any plans for new merchandise coming out soon?

I would really want to do some t-shirts but this is a future plan.

10.Empire Of Hate comes out of the Greek black metal scene what is your opinion of Greece's black metal scene over the years?

Surely I can tell that the Greek scene has some serious musicians that make a really amazing job and I can tell that things are better than the 90s because many new talented musician with great musical knowledge and amazing inspiration coming out every year and you can find a lot of little gems.

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Greece and are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Some of my all time favorites are bands that give their lead to the Greek black metal scene as Rotting Christ , Varathron and Twilight . Now from the young blood I highly recommend the Human Serpent , Nihilism and Sanguis Profanum.

12.Are their honest.reliable labels or distro's in Greece that you could recommend to the readers?

The labels and distros that come to my mind are Floga records and Rock of Angels records , Empire Vinyl-CD-DVD and the nephelim strore.

13.When you need take a break from working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

I really enjoy to discover new bands reading lot of books (I’m really a lot into Lovecraft’s myology and Tolkien’s world) and hiking in forests and mountains playing some pc games and chilling around with friends (included my cat) and drinking some good beer.

14.Thank you Jim for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thank you to Patrick for including me on the webzine, support your local scene and stay metal.

Idolatry--In Nomine Mortis cd{Humanitys Plague Prod.} posted on 9-16-19

Idolatry--In Nomine Mortis cd{Humanitys Plague Prod.}
Coming out of the Canadian black metal scene is Idolatry with their newest full length in Nomine Mortis. The new release contains a very well written and performed intro and nine tracks of harsh yet well performed black metal intensity. The music is a mix of fast and crazed blackend metal but the band does perform some more structured mid paced patterns entertwined into the music. The vocals are a mix of raw black metal screams and some gruff growls and hollering are used in a few of the songs. The guitar work is done with both extremely fast and chaotic guitar patterns but do slow to a more calm guitar passages. If you are looking for a band that cobines both harsh black metal with some classier well composed black metal then do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of In Nomine Mortis today.
